Thank you for the kind words. And Compound Complex I accidently disliked your comment in an effort to erase my 3 accidental extra likes. Obviously, this doesn't work quite like facebook.

Another family needlessly torn apart
by Visitor1984 ini'm feeling very angry tonight as i watched my mother in law end her relationship with my husband, her son, tonight.
we were happily inactive, enjoying a distant but decent relationship with my in laws until they saw some christmas decorations and everything changed.
i spent two hours getting drilled on whether my husband and i celebrate holidays, to be told that my laws won't socialize with us anymore.

I spent two hours getting drilled on whether my husband and I celebrate holidays, to be told that my laws won't socialize with us anymore. Now that I'm completely out of that religion I realize how pathetic it is. I watched as my mother in law blamed her son for "doing this to her" The woman ended her relationship with her only child because she feels like its what God requires of her. He's a wonderful husband and father, but none of that matters because of a tree. A tree.
I'm posting this to vent my anger and for any lurkers. I lurked for a long time too. This religion does not reflect normal loving family behavior. If it doesn't feel right, follow your gut, it probably isn't.

Childless elders need to piss off
by Steel inanyone else think it's wrong to ask a women with small children to volunteer there time, ask if they like to come to a potential study etc etc?.
my wife just spent an entire day helping with a kingdom hall reno while i babysat.
i latter stepped out and saw half the elders having coffee because they had so many people show up, they were tripping over each other.. i also have no idea what tangible skill my wife offered or why it is important she needs to be there.. i just wish these men would man up and be men, instead of just wasting everyone's time on purpose.

Maybe your wife enjoys that type of thing. If she stays at home with the kids all the time she could feel like it's a break.
If she does not enjoy it or she truly does not have the time then she needs to be encouraged to make her own decisions and learn how to say no to others. That's not always easy for JW women.
I do have a distinct dislike for childless elders. I'll never forget the one who opened his public talking asking the audience which would be worse-having your child missing and their face on the side of a milk carton or losing your child spiritually. I tuned out the rest of the clueless moron's talk.

Do you think I should get something for my wife for her birthday?
by schnell inmy wife is still nominally in, but only because it "makes me (her) happy".
there is nothing academic about her beliefs and when i try, she interprets me as negative.. but then she cusses like a sailor and watches certain movies with me.
her birthday is coming up and it's also right around valentine's day.

Be sure to wrap it nicely. Witnesses hardly ever get wrapped gifts.

Why so few XJWs online?
by StephaneLaliberte innot too long ago, i posted a topic where i pointed out that there are about 1 million xjws alive right now.
that number only represented the disfellowshipped ones... didn't account for those who had become publishers and left or anyone else who got hurt by that group by proxy.
so, why are there so few of them online?

People move on and good for them that they do. When I first left the religion I was on this website every day for six months. Then I stopped visiting and starting living. I moved out of state and no one bothered me and my family. I have since moved back and I have been pestered by JWs which brought me back to this site. Many of the same people are here posting , so I'm assuming that this has become a hobby. I can think of worse hobbies. But I'm willing to bet most people are like me and get what they need from this site and then move on with life. I hope I can do the same a second time.

Not one visit, 8 years in a nursing home, and not one visit!
by Raymudas Martini inmy dad{rip}, was a faithful jw since the year i was born, i'm 60, he died 2 years ago.
his last 12 years were spent in an assisted living/nursing home right in the small town where he spent the last 8 years of being an elder/pioneer.
when he went into the home, one brother would visit him regularly, but after 4 years, that friend moved away, and visitation from the locals ceased, for 8 years!!!!!!!

The members of the congregation I was formerly a part of will visit brothers and sisters in assisted living or nursing homes while out in service to count time. It was always cheating to me while I was in but now that I'm glad that they do. More congregations should do the same.

Is this a new practice?
by Visitor1984 inmy husband and i recently moved back to our hometown so we are back on the radar for the elders.
we have been happily inactive the last few years.
the other day a brother, who was once friends with my husband, and a substitute circuit overseer stopped in my husband's work for a shepherding visit if they still call it that.

Iamallcool,
It was very nice living away from all this mess. No one, including family, bothered us about Jw matters. I hope you get to enjoy that one day as well.
