i'm not unduly worried about contracting sars, particularly as the chances of getting it are remote.
there's plenty more threatening illnesses around that aren't remote, but leastways i can have some control over these far more dangerous diseases by how i conduct my lifestyle.

Testing what lengths they can go to in the name of protecting the population. The Patriot Act II says that if an alert is sounded, the government can quarantene whole cities, even stop parents from collecting children from school.
What lengths will people allow the government to go to, to protect their health.?

the situation with sars in asia appears to be worsening and travel restrictions alone are likely to have a devastating effect on the immediate asian economy (singapore, taiwan, hong kong etc...) as a lot of these rely on trade and travel.. i wonder if the world could now cope with going back 20+ years to a time when fewer people travelled and international travel was a rarity for the majority of people.. nowadays we take for granted that we can jump on a plane and jet off to faraway lands ... but what if we couldn't?
i think one "benefit" (bad word) to sars is that it could put a brake on globalisation which i see as a bad thing.
If free-travel is limited then this will undoubtedly affect the economy worldwide.
I can't help feeling that a new virus of this danger couldn't have started by itself, maybe it was a bio-weapon that has accidentally (or purposely) been released. It also seems to be mutating. The fact that it has started in China should make us worried, as we know they have a large Bio-weapons research program.
The World Health Organisation has said that 1 in 7 people could die as a result of contracting SARS. Very scary. But what is the result of this threat? More control of the population, and a new source of fear to keep everybody demanding the governments to take away more freedom to protect them from this terror.

Too right. The most interesting 'stories' have actually been left out of the canon, I think it would have been stretching credibility a bit too far to ask people to believe some of them.
I have a copy of the 'book of Enoch' which by all criteria should be in the canon, but if you asked people to believe half the things in it you'd be fighting a loosing battle.

Did you read the articles earlier this year on Kraft foods?
Apparently they have been putting GM ingrediants in their food without labelling. They tried to sell the same foods over here but they weren't allowed to, and thats how it came out.
Monsanto has had a lot of funding from Tony Blairs government, despite opposition from his own party. They have been planting GM crops next to natural crops and these have cross-pollonated.
I think messing with nature is always dangerous but it will be years before the consequences are felt.

I was discussing this with an Elder a few weeks ago.
I had asked him about the expectations surrounding 1975 and I made the point that the most faithful and zealous brothers had the most to be disillusioned about the failure of 1975 to bring about armageddon, as they had made the most sacrifices to serve until it came.
I asked whether the society were then guilty of stumbling faithful ones, and the elder said that this was a sifting work by Jehovah, and anyone that left were obviously only doing it to save there lives (hence selfish reasons) and not because they loved Jehovah.
All the witnesses only go on the ministry, meetings, assemblies etc because they don't want to die at armageddon, not purely out of a love for God.
