Smurf thing? What, that they're "DEMONIZED?!"
I haven't read the book, but I remember some crazy shit back in the day about the dumbest things. Smurfs, Mork and Mindy, the Legend of Zelda... Just ugh.
hey all,.
we have purchased a bunch of great books recently, and one of them is from author kyria abrahams called "i'm perfect, you're doomed".
i'm only 5 chapters in at this stage, but i just have to share that this is a great read!.

i understand people love their family but i also don't understand why you end up caring in the end.
i'm ready to leave and i 100% don't expecting my family to have any contact with me nor do i want them to contact me.
if they are going to chose a man made religion over me, that's their choice and i will sleep easy at night.
Totally up to you, whatever costs you are aware of.
I feel similarly, though I don't put it to others in such a slightly aggressive way as "Why do you feel --?" Personally, I have pre-shunned a few people out of disgust. I have also been shunned by some old friends and family members without being DFed. I discovered a few "friends" who I didn't mind losing once they showed their real selves.
And ultimately, that's a price I needed to pay. The benefit is freedom and understanding and individuation, rather than indentured servitude.
Soon, I plan on getting together with cousins and an aunt who were CUT OFF from my family decades ago. I'd also love to see more family members whom I've never had the pleasure of meeting. Family goes beyond the immediate, and even in my immediate family, I don't believe I would be entirely judiciously shunned at this point.
my wife is still nominally in, but only because it "makes me (her) happy".
there is nothing academic about her beliefs and when i try, she interprets me as negative.. but then she cusses like a sailor and watches certain movies with me.
her birthday is coming up and it's also right around valentine's day.
Not to change the subject, but I recently gave someone a birthday present for the first time in my life. I gave my history instructor an apple on his birthday, by no means an extravagant gift, but he really seemed to appreciate that I remembered. It felt good.
An apple for a teacher is classic. I plan on gradually following more customs of the world around me, though I don't feel the need to visibly invest in Christmas decorations or anything. I am learning more about the equinoxes and solstices though, and that's interesting stuff. It feels good.
I wish I could play the football pool at work, just for fun, but I'd be in a JC promptly if I did that. I guess I could get litigious if the dubs at work reported me, but that is not worth it one bit.
Being in the USA at this point in history, I promptly want to read more about our government, the Federalist papers, the Constitution, and local issues especially. I voted for the first time in October (early mail ballot) and when it came to local elections, I admit that I simply voted by party rather than issue, and I don't feel that is a rational way to do it. In my defense, where I did have a more thoughtful opinion on a local proposition, that is how I voted.
It just feels better to be a free human being.

I have seen that on Scribd but haven't read it yet. It is a shame how some of the comments review it as a bit of the author feeling sorry for herself, but I think that's pretty understandable. Alright, I'll give it a shot. :)

I'll take all that into consideration, @scratchme1010, thank you. I gauged her earlier at lunch. :) I said I want to do something for her this month, and got a great big blushing smile from her. (She did mention feeling so much better around her birthday over the weekend, and we've even discussed each other's zodiac signs out of morbid curiosity haha. However, I did not bring this up today. I just let it resonate in the background.)
Then I asked if she would like or need anything in particular... Long story short, I know exactly what to get her, and it's totally not a "guy gift". :)

Those are great ideas, guys. Anti-birthday present and a nice dinner. Love it.
Happy birthday hun.

Her birthday is coming up and it's also right around Valentine's Day. Should I get her something? What do you think?
i seem to remember many talks and articles in the past about repeating rumors.last night before going into the book study the conductor said something to the effect, "i heard a rumor and i don't know if it's true but the rumor is that in the future we will be using only;y videos at the door.".
anyone else heard this "rumor"?.
and whats up with repeating rumors from the platform?
Let's say they did that. Why send Witnesses at all? The next logical step in the 21st century is to send drones door to door with a little screen that plays the video.
Oh wait they already do (ba-dum-tssss)
i've noticed several posts recently claiming that jw friends and family members give out conditional love.
well, i'm not so sure that is entirely accurate, in fact, i would say they tend to be very steadfast in their love.
the issue is this, they have been taught a poor form of love.
I get what you're saying (they still DO love but they're conflicted and malformed by cult regulations), but in the end, that still sounds like conditional love.
hi everyone i don't even know where to begin.
i recently saw leah remini's series on scientology thanks to my husband (semi-active jw) and i felt like my eyes were being opened for the 1st time in my adult life.
i felt shaken almost sick to my stomach with each episode i watched.
Welcome, @Confusedandangry. I'm faded now, but fairly recently. Unlike most here, I have not seen this Scientology series. It's good to see people wake up, if only after seeing another example of a cult. And man what an epiphany, to realize you grew up in a cult.
