Homeless guy begs with the Watchtower
by ShirleyW inafter that crazy story about the bride and groom going out in service in their wedding attire, that reminded me of a scene yesterday in one of the subway stations, a disheveled homeless guy had one hand out begging for some money, "does anyone have some spare change to help me " he kept saying, in his other hand was a copy of the magazine.
so what must've happened was some dub passed him by and instead of giving him a quarter gave him a copy of the latest publication.
although some of the beggars use their money for alcoholic beverage anyway instead of food i'm sure that magazine will be put to good use when he feels the need to take a squat somewhere and needs some paper.

I know a JW who tweets Bible verses to Britney Spears. The delusion that Bible verses and Watchtower litter-ature will magically save somebody is preposterous. -

No. It's just a stupid game that people play. -

How can elders find someone.. And how long would it take?
by Randy notmarsh inlet's throw a hypothetical.
let's say that a body of elders is looking for someone in a different congregation, but don't know what kh he attends, how do they go on about it?
how long do you guys think it'll take?

I'll throw in a complication.
What if an elder gets butthurt and destroys the cards of a few young men?
That happened, and it would have been a blessing if my brother weren't so indoctrinated.

It occurs to me so late now that this is called "the memorial", and yet the apostles could not remember the time or day when he actually died.

How to respond when JW's invite you to the memorial
by krismalone inthe yearly rejection of the blood of christ aka jw memorial is coming soon.. jw's will be engaging in an invitation campaign.
elders are instructed to personally visit inactive ones or faders.
some sarcastic ideas of how to respond to the memorial invitation that will scare or piss off the cult members:.

Just say "No, thanks" while eating crackers and washing it down with wine.

If the "society" were a person, he would be disfellowshipped!
by stuckinarut2 inthat realisation struck me the other day!.
if the society was an individual person, he would be disfellowshipped!
well, he has had a history of telling mistruths, half truths and distortions of facts.

In a similar vein, isn't this thread similar to the theme of The Golden Compass and His Dark Materials, where God deserves to die?

I would like to rant about how I get really upset when I get some weak invitation back to the cult.
by schnell inmy mother wanted me to know that the co gave a talk that kinda-sorta reprimanded an elder in her hall.
he is not the reason i left at all, and this does not address anything to do with me or our family.. my mother-in-law sent me texts which i ignored and now she has sent a picture to my wife on facebook just for me, and it's a prodigal son meme that says, "you see the signs, come back it's not too late".. yeah, it's not too late to accept a global flood in 2370 bce, or that man was created in 4026 bce from a golem spell, or that an us-and-them cult mentality is at all healthy or loving, or that religion is going to be banned by the un, or that i should expect anyone else at the door to accept these stupid ideas in the information age.. what am i supposed to say?
i usually just ignore them, but before i do that, i see that shit and i storm into this weird internalized rage where i start writing a response and deleting it.

"Oh you say that now, but so many have returned to jehulu. They see what it's like in the world and realize we are in Thee End Times. You will too."
My mother said something like this when I was heavily disillusioned. She rationalized that I was entering a temporary phase which she said so many go through. It was tough for her to realize that it is not a phase.
We had one illuminating conversation where I asked why she got involved with JWs. No surprise, she was at a weak point and an impressionable age. 17, 18 years old. She never was academic or very well read, and bought into this religion because it was simple, it promised a new order, and it was well-timed in her life. She stayed alive through 1975 and apparently didn't flinch.
I love my mother, but she bought the worst kind of bridge.

Why do subjugated people adopt the religion of their oppressors?
by James Mixon ini always wondered why african slaves adopted the bible.
for the life of me i couldn't understand the attraction.
of course this is not only african slaves who adopted the religion of their oppressors, so i came across a article "the above topic".. five reasons 1)coercion (2)co-option (3)conditioning (4)convincing (5) materialist consequences..in the case of the african slaves they made sure that plenty of bibles be shipped to the south and used to keep the slaves in line... so my question, what will be the religion in the destined future,jw's(no way),scientology (hope not),christianity, islamic or maybe no religion???

Destined or distant? Idunno, perhaps some weirdly reformed mesh of Christianity and Islam? Maybe we'll find ourselves with the Orange Catholic Bible and a cult of witches who are breeding a messiah. We'll find ourselves at odds with the planet no matter what, though.

@careful, there is reason to believe 2 Thessalonians wasn't written by Paul.
