@Nathan Natas I once saw a friend make a dangerous left hand turn to get into the parking lot, right in the way of oncoming traffic, things happened, and their gate was destroyed. I'm not gonna say he cost our circuit its assembly venue, I'm just gonna say we no longer had that assembly venue. . .

Not security, but at the last one day assembly here a few weeks back, the middle school where it's held has only one driveway for entry and exit. Just one driveway. And the brothers in charge of parking had allowed it to be clogged down to one lane.
So when we got to lunch, of course people wanted to come and go, but there were no brothers on duty for parking. Nobody was there to direct traffic with only one lane for entry and exit. I saw that, and despite my beard, I handed my wife our bags to put in the car, and started directing traffic until it cleared out a little.
Unbelievable.

My gay friend went back to JWs?
by schnell inone of my best friends was disfellowshipped several years ago, and word quickly got around that it was because he's gay.
we lost touch after that because of the disfellowshipping, but since i'm out now, i just found him online and got back in touch with him.
it was a great conversation, but he said he returned to jehovah.

I couldn't do that. I'm introspective enough about my own sexuality to say that it's important to be honest and understanding, not subject to tyranny.

I don't understand. I know several gay friends who grew up in the truth, and this makes two who are still believers. I have another friend who married her partner, and is still happily married, still goes to memorials and conventions and some meetings despite the homophobia, and worries about what she'll say to God in the end. I don't get it.
Well, the conversation went great and we're mutually respectful, but he knows I'm inactive. I wish him the best, and I hope he's happy whatever happens.

Suspicious Attitude Toward Married Brothers...
by JW_Rogue inthis is kind of different but i just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this.
it seems that younger married brothers are viewed with a certain level of suspicion in the congregation.
it's like the elders can be friendly with everyone in the hall including younger sisters.

@Diogenesister, we had a few layers of emotional extortion.
We could've just eloped and got married in court. But she didn't want to elope, her parents didn't want a court wedding, and I would've "lost privileges... to protect the congregation".
We could've just dated like normal adults. But that's worldly. -_-
She could've rushed through her study and baptism, but she didn't want to rush because she loved what she was learning and wanted this to be the truth.
I didn't want to push her to get baptized, but I admit, it was incredibly frustrating and I broke a couple times. I could've given up on her, indeed I DID give up on her for a while, and indeed an elder told me he would if he were in my shoes, but I loved her. I still love her.
Finally, after years of this, she got baptized and months later we got married! In the kingdom hall! Yay!
And then her sister got married in court and her folks were cool with it, and I was like WTF! ! !

One more reason I don't want to raise kids at the hall.

If you don't mind a tangent, I fell in love with my wife years before she was baptized. We dated, it was awesome, and then the elders found out. I got to hear the "definition of dating", "She's still outside the truth even if she was born in", etc. We had to break up, and we saw each other on and off. So much of our lives has been affected by this ridiculous self-appointed ecclesiocracy.

Why limit it to married and not single brothers? Why only brothers? I've seen this flirt accusation thrown around to people of all sorts.

The Q Gospel
by schnell inso, i'm reading "the lost gospel: the book of q and christian origins" on scribd.
check it out: https://www.scribd.com/book/163624254.
if you're not aware (i'm just learning about this), the q is a term for an early "sayings gospel" of yeshua, a document that recorded his sayings rather than his supposed life story.

I agree completely, Phizzy. And so much of our JW dogma comes from those fake books, like Acts and the Pastoral letters and Revelation. Ugh. The view on blood transfusions, for instance, is even more untenable when you know Acts 15 is part of a second century forgery.
I gotta say, I don't get the same encouragement from reading the Bible anymore. Just as with Jesus, if you strip away the mythology and divinity, you find a minority of good advice, and everything else is really flawed and really terrible.
I could picture an old man telling me the things written in Proverbs, and I imagine just stopping him from time to time so I can disagree. Sure, stay away from thugs and hoes. But don't be afraid to think for yourself or so dependent on others to do the thinking for you! That's terrible!
