New Resolution?

had our midweek meeting last night.

they had a resolution to send an extra (i wanna say $1100 but i only remember it was at least $1000) per month to forward the kingdom preaching work etc.. you know how they work in the kh...no one votes against anything.

i abstained as i almost have always done.

I also know a JW that has a auto repair shop. He has had to fix more then one pioneer or single sisters car for free because they didn't have any money to pay for the needed repairs. Another JW family had him repair thier car but when it came time to pay they delayed because they had spent the money to send the wife to Hawaii so she could be at the regional convention with her family. They finally paid but it took awhile.

Ah, the covetous, freeloading JW economy. Giving a freebie would work if the group is overall well educated and employed. Having a reputation for giving freebies to a group of underemployed and undereducated leeches who've come to expect it will put you in bankruptcy.

hi guys.. "brother" jose is quite possibly the most sinister speaker i've ever seen or heard.

and i've seen/head a lot of cults in my time.. he's over the top with his voice tone and gestures.

This convention had the weirdest speakers ever! It caused me to question if it was the real thing at first...

I couldn't finish it. Every single part that I saw was so bizarre that I didn't bother with the rest. Very Orwellian, indeed.

My best friends in the world ate it all up and called it the best one yet. That was painful.

lasting memory of the latter period of time in the organisation:.

i had a route call with the magazines whom i'd called on for a number of years.

eventually when i become a parent i became consumed with negativity, doubt (blood issue) & depression.

If you deny yourself for so long, you are in for a psychological crack, a nervous breakdown.

If you love science, how long can you sit there while a brother at the hall comments that evolution is a false teaching? That he doesn't know where all those dinosaur bones came from?

If you love art and beauty and expression, how long can you sit there without expressing yourself? You think nudes and violence and bad language are wrong? At least they're honest.

If you love someone you're told you can't love, what can you do about it?

If you're told to put off everything and keep your head in the future, how can you ever be present here and now?

If your psyche is a piece of embroidery, and everything you deny is on the underside (your Shadow in Jungian psychology), I'd really hate to see the chaotic mess that lies beneath that of a long time Witness.

Now, to be fair, we do have to deny ourselves. We live in a world of consequences and we have to act appropriately. But a religion that demands you sacrifice so much of yourself is not at all necessary.

Awkward exchange with my JW sister in law regarding the circle of life

so we were at another family members home for a random celebration when the nature channel showed a killer whale eating a seal and my sister in law was horrified.

we made a joke about the circle of life and i said something along the lines of 'everything that lives must die, the bible says every king must die, so even jesus wasn't immune'.

after that comment there was an awkward silence with our jw family whispering to each other about my comment of dying.. once upon a time i asked my uber elder jw brother if he thought that he would not die and he asked me if i knew when god would start armageddon.

If you can get a strong enough dopamine release from an idea that offers release from the stress of the world, you can addict millions of people and make billions of dollars doing it.

That's part of human nature, too.

That One Defining Moment That Changed Your Life.

it seems that many times in life there is a moment or an action that changes your whole world.

it could be just a look that someone gives you.. many times it can be something rather small.

something hardly noticeable by anyone but you.

When I learned what evolution really is.
When I met my wife for the first time.
The skeletal look in my father's face as I went with him to his last chemo and drove him home. I knew I had to take care of myself and my mom.
When I realized I'm pretty damn good at driving a truck.
When my father passed away.
When I was taken in the backroom to discuss my relationship with my unbaptized girlfriend.
When I broke up with her to keep my hope for "privileges" that I never got, and some other sod went in for her.
When she broke up with him (quite literally to "You Give Love a Bad Name" I must add!), and I was told by her mom to just talk to her as a friend. She needed it.
When she said yes, because things went from there.
When I lost my job.
When we moved and both started working for Witnesses and realized how terrible it was and unhappy we were to work for them.
When my brother got a miserable miscarriage of justice at the hands of the elders. Is this the kind of system I wish to expose people to if they show interest at the door?
When I could no longer rationalize about evolution. I accepted it for what it is and began reevaluating all the claims the WTBTS makes about our world from 4026 BCE onward.

They're thankful for the day off. And the sales.
