i'm looking for an explanation why the gb has made a radical change on the issue of vaccinations.

was there pressure from outside?

were there any financial or other benefits to promoting experimental genetic therapy?.

Good to see there are still some sane ones around. Keep in mind that ex-JWs are former members of a cult with some anti-vacs history, very skeptical of higher education, science and medicine.

Hip replacement on Monday. Wish me luck.

as the title says i'm having a total hip replacement on monday.

the pain has grown over the years and now i'm using a cane to walk.

after steroid injections and physical therapy, it was decided that a total hip replacement is appropriate.

All the best. A hip should be less complicated than a knee surgery.

Covid Vx likened to Jesus ransom

this morning i decided to log into the local cong meeting on zoom, during the public talk the speaker likened the covid vx to jesus ransom sacrifice, saying that those who didn't avail of the vx, the 'anti vaxxers', are just like people who refuse to put faith in jesus.. i felt sick, knowing my unvxed but active jw parents were sitting there, i logged off immediately.

surely such talk is pure blasphemy or am i just over reacting?!.

i appreciate your thoughts, it will hopefully help me to approach my jw family with facts and logic, i'm praying they wake up fully and 'get out of her', i know they have reservations that's why they refused the vx..

The comment at the meeting has the same nature as those of the anti-vaxers in this thread.

What Happened to 2034?

some years ago the wt started putting it out there that noah took 120 years to build the ark, and since the wt was the new ark, it may allow them up to 2034 (1914 + 120) before armageddon.

it could have been their new 1975 to get excited about, but i don't see any mention of it at all now.

what happened during the two decades since last i observed anything about the wt?.

It would have a short-term boost. And as the French put it: "aprés moi, le deluge". And they would point to old literature: "Already then, we mentioned the 120 years." But the appointed time had not come, yet.

Let's wait and see. The periods with a focus on a specific year were flourishing times of the Watchtower. And as Hoffer put it in The True Believer, members in generally move together after a failed prophecy.

Real reasons behind this change?

just a good conversation at home about the hour report change.. we think the change was not impmemented because the gb are such a lovely bunch of old grandpa's having the best in mind for us individuals.. there will be only, and we say only, an organizational reason for it.

a legal reason, to protect jw.org and it's officials and wealth.. next step?

maybe selling more kh and when jw hollywood studio's in rampoo are ready a change to tv subscription.. what do you think?

Could it be related to high prices of paper that did not correlate with donations. They cannot say: preach less. So, they stop the reporting. Even, if not much literature is placed, every JW needs stocks. https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/WPU0911

jw view gambling as a sin and sadly people get addicted to gambling causing them financial and health problems.

but is playing a couple of bucks a week on some lottery tickets actually gambling?

what do you have to lose?

When we helped an MS moving, a lottery receipt came to daylight behind the fridge. Was a little embarrassing. But no consequences followed as far as I remember.
