How Do You Handle Hypocrisy?
by GinnyTosken inhow do you handle hypocrisy?
appears in the november 15, 2001 watchtower.
the article intrigues me because instead of a clear-cut condemnation of hypocrisy, the article wavers back and forth.. first, the writer defines hypocrisy:.

Your 'accuracy' is what fits your world-view.
As is true of you as well, and every other human on earth.
You seem to be the self-appointed fill in for Alan F.
Damn! And here I thought I was a free moral agent, when all along I'm just filling in for my teammate!
Still seeing the world in terms of teams, eh Rex? Us-versus-Them? Black-and-White thinking?
No one has to 'twist your motives' for they are often transparent.
OK, if they are that transparent, what are my motives? (Let's see if you can avoid twisting them in your explanation)
You still haven't, nor did Rushdie, address the Jihad.
Jihad is as wrong as were the Crusades.
You still haven't withdrawn you ludiocrous comparison of Christ's teachings with Mohammed's caravan robbing, murder and conquest.
See previous statement, and you'll understand why.

The full quote was this:
Feel free to back up your words with substance next time. That's how we do things around here.
Who is the "we" I spoke of? All those who back up their words with substance. The majority of those who post, when asked for further information or backing of their assertions, do this. Not everyone does, of course, but I was talking about the typical JWD poster.

Fundamentalists of a different flock
by Rex B13 inthis is a short article from breakpoint and i think that the writer explains the christian view on recent events.
i hope it reaches those who need it.. this shows why christians are different though being capable of some rather nasty acts.
to my usual detractors, save your bluster as i will not respond to anyone who hijacks this thread with personal attacks.

It is a piece with some nice thoughts. I would only add to it one idea:
It is what makes Christianity different. It is what makes followers of Christ different than people like Osama bin Laden and Muhammad Atta and the Taliban.
It is also what makes Islam different. Note how bin Laden's call for support in the Islamic world is mostly falling on deaf ears? How Muslim country after Muslim country is standing with the U.S. even after bin Laden's latest plea? How Islamic leaders are saying bin Laden does not speak for Islam?
Single out bin Laden and the Taliban, absolutely. These are extremists, with extremist views of Islam. They do NOT represent the majority of Islam.

Forget it Seeker,
You seem intent on critisizing me personally instead of taking the article and discussing Islam and Rushdie's slant. I've already exposed your ignorance and intentional slander of Christianity numerous times yet you continue to compare apples and oranges. People like you and Norm are on my case, personally, no matter what I post.
I'm done with you both.Sorry, Rex, this isn't about you, but about your actions. You could always learn from your mistakes if you chose to, but you continue to filter the world through your narrow vision. You did it as a JW, and you do it now as a Baptist. I have not slandered Christianity, but merely showed how your complaints against "Islam" are just as simplistic as similar complaints against Christianity. To condemn a modern-day Christian just because of the atrocities extremist Christians caused in the Middle Ages would be just as simplistic as what you are doing to modern-day Muslims, most of whom (as Rushdie says) are not in favor of these extremist Muslims.
I'm not on your case no matter what. Merely when you get things wrong. The fact that you get many things wrong is something for you to work on, not me. The way you mis-read this article is merely symptomatic of your thought process. You work from a foundation of bias and proceed from there. I am not biased toward Islam any more than I am biased toward Christianity. No religion is particularly of interest to me, but if I have reason to hate one religion above all it would be Islam (for reasons that have nothing to do with 9/11, are personal to me, and are nobody's business). Despite this, I can read an article and pull out from it the salient facts. You miss the facts and then get angry when I point this out to you. You pretend this is a personal attack, when you know very well that I have nothing against you personally, and even have a kind of affection for you.
No matter how many times you twist my motives, I will be here, standing up for accuracy.

I'll play the smarmy elder who says to brothers after they have given a talk, "That was a good talk, brother. But you know the part where you quoted the Watchtower article on such-and-so? Well, the context of the quote actually makes clear that it was really talking about blah blah blah..."

Rex,
So I am not allowed to post an article that says some things contrary to my previous statements? That's kind of odd coming from such a 'free speech' advocate. I now and forever have to post only articles that I completely agree with?
Of course you are allowed to post whatever you want -- that's free speech. And I am allowed to point out your mistakes -- that's free speech too.
I DID read the article.
Then how could you miss the point? When Rushdie says, "Blame Islam," he has a context from which he is speaking. After all, he himself is a follower of Islam, and he is clearly not blaming himself, is he? He is trying to make a point, so he made a blunt statement to get that point across, with the subtleties underlying that statement understood and implied. When you make the same statement, it comes from Christian bigotry, as the rest of your hate-filled message shows.
It is you who cannot seperate yourself from constant erroneous comparisons between Islam and Christainity. BTW, did you look into the section of the Koran that details the personal and public jihad?
If you did, you will see that it varies greatly from, "love thy neighbor as thyself".Yes. And did you look into the sections of the Bible that detail God-ordered slaughter? Don't tell me Jesus did away with those sections, for every religion that wants to find justification for their actions will use whatever section of the Bible that suits them, just as you condemn all of Islam based on certain sections.
Islam is just another cult, only bigger than most.
It's not a cult, but the fact that you used that word shows your prejudice. If it is a cult, so is Christianity.
If you would take off your 'politically correct' goggles
I'm not politically correct. In fact, I hate political correctness.
and remove your own blinders of liberalism
I'm not a liberal either. Way to go, Rex!
you might begin to see what this war is all about.
Unlike you, I've been following that part of the world for years, and I'm well aware of what this police action (it's not a war) is all about.
I repeat, Islam has as a central doctrine the forced conversion (by the followers, not God) of all humanity. They butchered millions of the original Parsi religious prophet, Zoaraster. They are FOLLOWING THEIR TEACHINGS FROM THEIR BOOK when they do so!
ROFL! Change the word "Islam" to "Christianity", and "Parsi" to "Christian" and "Zoaraster" to "Jesus" and you have an accurate description of most of the Middle Ages. This is truly the pot calling the kettle black.
Islam is not as old as Christianity. What Rushdie is hoping for is the same maturing process of the more extreme elements of Islam into a more mainstream version that can co-exist with the rest of us. Just like Christianity evolved....

How Reliable is the WT Observer?
by Pureheart insorry for duplicating this post.
i made a mistake and posted on the wrong forum.. my question is, can we rely on the observer to give us accurate information on the jws.
i ask this question because i have read many disturbing things about the society in its early beginnings.

Pureheart,
Here is the difference between the Watchtower Observer site and the Watchtower magazine:
If you note a mistake on WT Observer, tell Kent and he'll fix it and thank you. If you note a mistake in the Watchtower, tell Bethel and they will ignore your letter while telling your elders to counsel you on your bad attitude.
Now, you tell me: Which is likely to be more accurate?

Welcome to the board, Edward. Your point on blood is well taken. Why would this be God's will to put the symbol of life ahead of life itself?

Angelic Gender?
by nicolaou infunny how a strange thought can just 'pop' into your head.. .
according to genesis, a preface to the flood was the intercourse that took place between materialised angels and human women (gen 6:2).
if the angels have no gender, why were not at least some of them tempted by human men and so materialise as women?.
