Of course the WTS wasn't a member of the UN -- you have to be a country to get that. What they could do was associate with the UN DPI as an NGO -- and that's exactly what they did until they got caught. Check the UN web site. The WTS is still listed.

there are some people on this forum who continue to express the belief that bin laden has not had a fair trial up to this point, and these same people have insinuated that perhaps the u.s. doesnt have enough proof against him and his network to take forceful military action.

I know bin Laden is guilty of many terrorist actions, and probably the WTC one as well. I also know that the evidence brought forth against him so far in this case has been inconclusive and vague, and that we will never be told all that the government knows. I also know that governments routinely lie to their citizens, and that the media passes on propaganda designed to let the citizens know what they are supposed to think. First we are told that Saddam Hussein is our friend, then we are told he is our enemy. First we are told Noriega is our friend, then we are told he is our enemy. And so on.
In other words, those of us not in the know will never know the whole truth. Probably we are being told the basic truth in this case, but almost certainly they are not telling us the whole truth, and likely we are being lied to (at least in some areas), just like in every other war.

How disappointing! Now all those curious JWs will check the web site, see nothing, and be convinced that we made it all up!
Hawk, it is vitally important that we get a complete paper trail about this. Not only the final results, but also year-by-year correspondance between the UN and the WTS. There must be something, and it would show that the WTS knew about this 100% and didn't do a thing about it until we noticed their underhandedness.
Otherwise it's going to come down to our word against the WTS's word, and we all know who the JWs will believe. Within a week, the rumor-du-jour will be that "apostates hacked the UN web site to make it look like the WTS was associated. How wicked!"

Can you clarify? Who initiated this, the WTS or the UN? In other words, did the WTS tell the UN, "Please disassociate us"? Or did the UN tell the WTS, "You are now disassociated"?

my fiance's mother, who is in complete hysteria since the attack on 9/11 and went back to being a witness after 10 years (clearly the main reason my fiance is now considering he should go back)told my fiance something that she heard from one of the elders last week.
i am not sure if it is true and most likely, there is no way to prove it.
she said that on the day of the attack, there was a group of people outside the wtc screaming and badmouthing jws because they don't fly the flag etc.

most of us are familiar with the prophecies or dates the wts has emphasized in the past.
of course all of those predictions never proved to be accurate so the question is, "if this is god's prophetic organization where is the proof"?.

Every possible definition you can come up with for the Society has been fulfilled by the Society. Everything. And it all failed to come true. You can even take the Insight definition of a prophet, and the Society really danced around on that one, and they still fit. Check out the article and then come back and tell us why the Society's own words on the subject contradict what you are saying.

below is an email---just another example in a long history of having bethel speakers speculate on issues and matters that will never be put into print- yet for the poor listeners they leave with a feeling of new light.
we have all seen this type of info from the boys from bethel only to be told that it was the bro opinion and not the org- when the sh!t hit s the fan.
the org is fully aware that they have men with 20-50 yrs of bethel service out there giving goof balls talks and building up the hope of the rank and file knowing full well it will never happen or be true.
I'm beginning to wonder if this is an urban legend in the making -- has anyone confirmed for a certainty that this talk took place?
Anyway, you'd think they would mention something of significance at the Annual Meeting, or the special day the following Sunday. But no, nothing special was said. So all you JWs spreading rumors around the Net, just remember this: when the Society had a prime moment to address current events and their relation to the end, they said nothing. If you want to run around and speculate, go ahead, but that's all it is, and not from the Society.
