  Has anyone circulated factsheet to local JW's?

  a group of exjws in the south of the uk are considering putting together a factsheet containing information about:.

  a) the wtbt involvement with united nations, .

  b)the lies told by the wtbts to the court in the case of jehovah's witnesses v bulgaria in the european court of human rights.

  sf & Perry are right. These fliers can work for other purposes such as educating the general public, or if a JW were to casually find them. I think those are great ideas.

  And despite anewperson's insult, I am not working for the Watchtower Society, and neither is JT, as anyone who has followed our posting history for the past five years would know. It's easy to make false accusations when people disagree with you, but JT and I know what we are talking about. We've seen how active JWs respond when this kind of material is forced upon them. It does more harm that good.

  What sf and Perry suggest is a much more effective idea.

  I'll bet if you put a gun to the head of JWs and told them to leave their religion, a few would agree. Then we could all run around saying how this method is "effective" and encourage everyone to try it.

  Fact is, no matter which method is chosen, they will all work on someone sooner or later. So the fact that you can produce anecdotal evidence of the effectiveness of this method is meaningless. All methods are effective to one degree or another.

  However, JWs have been so carefully trained to view flyers or printed information 'against' them as spiritual poison, and as evidence that they are being persecuted, and as evidence that this means the WTS is right after all, I suspect this method does more harm that it does good.

  A JW's mind will be curious about what they search online in the privacy of their home. Pushing something in their face will make them go rushing back to 'mother' more often than not. For every JW who responds, hundreds will be pushed further into their faith.

  Just my opinion, I realize, but looking back at myself, a flyer would have done nothing to get me out, and everything to have kept me inside.

  I'll second that with "Gladiator." I was shocked at how shoddy the filmmaking was. The movie was OK, but to have been nominated for an Oscar was absurd. For it to win was an outrage. Don't people actually watch good movies any more so as to be able to tell the difference?

  Also cannot believe "The Grinch" was even successful, let alone as successful as it was. Horrid rewrite of a classic cartoon.

  Sure it's a threat to free speech. As soon as the government says, "You have to ask us for permission before you can go to your neighbor's house to speak to them" you have the risk of speech being denied. You should never give the government a power over you unnecessarily. They may not use that power against those they dislike right away, but sooner or later it will happen. Human history is full of examples of governments using their power against those they dislike.

  In fact, something similar has already happened. There is a notorious web site that names and calls for the death of specific abortion doctors in the U.S. Run by an extremist Christian right group. It only really caused a stir when a couple of doctors on the list were killed. That brought it into murky legal territory.

  The fact that they could go as far as they did with that web site shows you just how far free speech is protected in this country.

  You want to keep pedophiles from your door? Don't focus on this issue, for it'll never fly in the courts. Instead, focus on the silentlambs issue to force the WTS to change its policies. If the WTS mandated that all accused pedophiles be turned into the police, not the elders, experts could determine the facts and actual pedophiles would go to jail. And thus not be going to your door.

  And pedophiles can be male or female. Those nice JW ladies going to your door could also be secretly molesting young boys.

  Yes. It only becomes illegal if they start calling for specific acts to be done against someone. You cannot discuss the upcoming muder of someone and get away with it. You can, however, call down evil on all redheads and say they all deserve death. You can also get up on a soapbox in the town park and loudly proclaim death to everyone who wears green hats. But you may NOT point to someone with a green hat and say, "I'm gonna kill him right now!"

  Doesn't the property owner have some rights to determine who has access to their private property?

  Sure. Just put a sign saying "No JWs" on the outer edge of your property, and if they disobey, take 'em to court.

  If a neo-nazi group wishes to spread their message, are they not permitted to do so by this amendment? Are there other provisions preventing this?

  Absolutely! They are welcome to spread their message in this country, and opponents are just as welcome to spread a counter message. There have been some well-known neo-nazi marches in this country. As long as they do it peacefully, they are welcome to do so under the Constitution.

  That's the way free speech works.

  The knee-jerk reaction around here of, 'Oh someone is against the WTS? Then I'm on that side!!' is dangerous.

  Good. The last thing Americans should want is greater control over their lives by the government. That is, after all, why America was born as a nation in the first place.
