Cooking is wonderfully sensuous, which is certailnly part of its draw. But maybe we ought to stick to actual shows. Next week we'll do the fantasy cooking shows thread! Yours may already be my favorite in that category...

yep, bourdain's no reservations tops my list of favorites.. why is it that shows on food and cooking, reality or otherwise, kick the ass of just about everything else on tv?
what do you expect with crap like america's got talent?
yeah, maybe it does, but not much of it's getting on that show!.

Rachel. One of those women that I'm not sure if I find her really attractive, or that I'm afraid that after I'd been with her for an hour, I'd be plunging that 10" chef's knife into her!
EVOO my arse.
S4 (Her annoying way of referring to "extra virgin olive oil", for those of you who haven't heard a Rachel Ray broadcast)
first ever post.
this is not new information, but it may be a scam anyway since it broke first in german and not english.
i am still barely coasting along in this org.
Realizing that the supposedly most important name in the universe - belonging to the one and only, all-powerful true god - somehow got lost, well, that went a long way toward my losing faith in him.
There are only a couple of things that we can be certain about the Divine Name: One, it wasn't pronounced Jehovah, and two, it wasn't used in the NT.
WTF!!!!

Next Monday, an awesome concept: Bourdain and the bizarre food guy, Zimmern (sp?) each take the other through their favorite offbeat NYC restaurants during their back-to-back shows.
Also in the top, Gourmet Magazine's Diary of a Foodie. Excellent and totally informative. I'll watch it as many times as it's on.
Love Hell's Kitchen, though I wouldn't subject myself to Gordon Ramsey's tirades for all of his money! There would be a bloody, fuckin' 10" chef's knife sticking out of his fuckin' chest about the middle of the second fuckin' episode I was on. Wonder if that'd disqualify me? His Kitchen Nightmares (restaurants in need of help) is a much better show, personally. You can learn a ton from that show, including the fact that Ramsay really has a big heart. Matches his outrageously oversized cojones.
Top Chef is good, but Iron Chef is better.
Used to like that young Englishman with the slight lisp. Can't remember his name, but liked how he cooked. Can't find the show anymore.
Chef babes? Giada. Need I say another name? No....
Who else???

two weeks ago, i went on a family vacation.
there was a voice mail on my cell phone from my boss.
i didn't respond to it.
Depending on your job, I'd say your boss has the right to call you when you're on vacation because, well, he's your boss!
It really depends on a lot of matters. When it's something stupid and that someone else can handle, that's one thing. If it's an emergency, that's quite another. Sounds like yours was definitely the first!

all of you who play guitar know that it is much harder to play and sing at the same time.
i was just wondering what are some of your favorites covers to do that to?.
heare are some of mine:.
Here's a link to Israel's version of Rainbow:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l4XhMANcCbM
It's great. The song can be done so many ways. Martina MacBride did one on tv the other night. Great stuff.
A short story:
I have a friend, very involved in the arts and always surrounds himself with the most interesting mix of artists, musicians, entrepreneurs, writers and actors. A few years ago I was invited to his birthday party, and one of the guests was a violinist. After dark, about 10 pm, from out of the gardens came this beautiful version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow by this musician. It was breathtaking, and it brought everyone to a standstill. A magic moment.
I was at a dinner party with that same friend Sunday evening at his home, and couldn't help but think of that other night.

my brother in law is enlisiting the help and support of family members in undertaking a half marathon, december 6th in aid of leukemia research from which his brother died twenty years ago........ so in a moment of madness i agreed to do it and also roped in my husband and 2 friends..........now i think i am the least fit of us 4.......i used to run regularly but havent done for a couple of years............i knackered my knee badly in 1999 (basically ripped it apart falling off a horse which then bolted up the road with my foot still in the stirrup)........so now although i can run slowly i get pain in my knee's....... so i have between now and first week in december to get fit and ready for a half marathon........the furthest i have run before is probably 6 miles.......... so am i biting off more than i can chew?.
any recommended fitness programmes?.
any special diet tips?.
Fifi,
How fit are you? Are you overweight? What exercise do you get now?
Start slowly, but start right off. It'll take 4 to 6 weeks to get your conditioning back.
The best way to speed up the process without injury is to take a couple of running sessions a week, and vary the pace. run at your normal pace, then kick it up for a hundred yards, drop back down to a comfortable pace to let your heart recover, then repeat that. Go through that cycle half a dozen times or more. You'll be shocked at how much more quickly you will progress doing that.
This and other ideas are covered in lots of websites. Runners World is a great magazine.
Also, I run on trails and not hard surfaces, simply because I want to avoid injury. It seems to work well for me.
Think of running on some trails as a daily gift to yourself, a chance to clear your head, meditate, take care of yourself. It helps to keep you motivated.
Good Luck!!

i'm brand spanking new to this forum.... my story is a long one that i will save for rainy day....however i will say i have been out for a long time 10+ years and when i left i really left.
i walked away at 20 (in my heart i was mentally gone at 17) and never really looked back much.
i was raised jw my father was an elder my mother an off and on pioneer (my father is no longer except he goes to the memorials, poor bastard and again thats another long story) i was not shunned by my parents both of whom were still very much in although my father left shortly after me and i would like to think that my bravery and courage allowed him to do the same.
Welcome!
I'm a fellow New Englander - Vermont. Former elder, pioneer, etc. I had a bunch of JW relatives in Maine. I'll PM you and see if you knew any.
Glad to have you here.

here is the best that i could do, but i think it gets the main points of the articles across.
i wouldn't bet my life on this translation, but i think it is good enough for our purposes.
question box.
Wow, this is as straightforwardly biased and anti-thinking as anything they've ever published! Do not study original Bible languages, do not study science, do not study anything except what we give you. The WTS is really running scared!
Beware of anyone or anything that forbids the free and open debate of ideas - especially their ideas!
Choosing Life:
I'd agree with Sir82 that the science they are forbidding would have to involve trying to find the scientific evidence and proof of WTS claims. Proving that humans are only 6,032 old; that there was a worldwide flood; that all animals didn't eat any meat until after the flood; that evolution is a flawed fact of science; that all humans spoke one language until a few thousand years ago.
You get the idea! And they should be afraid to let anyone in the congregations research these things - doing just that is why I left the JWs, and there are a lot more like me out there.

hello folks.
i touched on this answering another thread and it made me think.
i remember seeing fairly often married couples at times verbally sparring in public at times in the kingdom hall or parking lot.
Of course not! Jehovah's Witnesses are the happiest people on Earth! Witness families are all exemplary and above average in every way.
What sort of a question is that? Arguing! No Witness couple has ever found a need to argue while in their spiritual paradise and basking in the glow of the holy spirit.
