I have one novel finished - it's an adventure/mystery, and two more with the same main character started and outlined. I put it on the shelf five years ago when I started writing for my paper full time. I got about 1/3 of it through a final rewrite a few years ago, just before my life went insane, but have started again. My plan is to have it out to some agents by the end of the year.
I've written one children's book which is now with a very successful illustrator who has several books published, and he's collaborating with me on it.
I have two other novels well underway. One is a satirical look at a man leaving a fictional religion that is very, very, very similar to JWs.
The other I started this year is about a mid-30s man who, after losing his family in a terrible accident, decides to go to college and finds personal peace and salvation through basketball, the zen of a near-perfect outside 3-point shot, and a handful of odd characters he meets there. I'll be working on that during the upcoming BBall season!
My problem is that it's hard to come home and do any serious writing after spending all day writing and editing, combined with a super busy schedule. But I'm really keeping at it now.
Changeling is a good writer. She sent me a few essays. Very nice!

How Many Have Written a Book? Or Are Considering it?
by AK - Jeff ini have the budded starts of maybe 4 of them in my hard drive.
i have been encouraged to finish them, but don't know if i ever will.
some of my writing was cathartic in purpose, and that cathartic crutch seems less needed these days.

You know that kinda gay guy in your old hall?
by changeling inyou know him, every hall has one.. he really knows fashion.
he hangs out with all the middle aged women at the hall.
his gait, voice and gestures are feminine.. if he were a "wordly" man he'd be a "flamer".. well, here's my question: is he or isn't he?

I knew a bunch of these guys. Several eventually left the JWs. A few tried marriage - with no success. A very few have just remained active JWs until the New System comes to "cure" them." HA!!!
Bethel has had a LOT of gay brothers. It's just a matter of remaining celibate until this old system is destroyed. What a pity!

Sorry WTS - Higher Ed More Important Than Ever!
by Seeker4 ini'm working on an article tonight from an interview i did last week with jane sanders, the president of burlington college and the wife of us senator bernie sanders.
i was thinking of the wts's comments this summer at the dc where they really bad mouthed the value of a college education.. this is what jane sanders said:.
"the cost of education is very high, and we are one of the only industrialized nations in the world that doesnt give some kind of strong support to higher education, that considers that that is a necessity.

Nice comments. The one about the college educated bros at Bethel reminded me:
When I was an elder another elder and I used to joke that we could encourage the teens to pioneer for a few years and go to Bethel and they'd end up cleaning or in the laundry,
or
we could encourage them to get a degree and apply to Bethel where they'd get a sweet job in the legal or engineering departments!
Ha, we could see the bullshite even back then!

Raised in a small New England town, and still live there. We still don't have a Mcdonalds or a mall of any sort.
Graduating class of less than 100, and I can go to town for an hour or so and easily run into a half dozen people I graduated with.
Still just nine holes at the country club.
Driving the loop of the town's two connecting main streets is still a favorite passtime of many. In fact they are going to have a classic car show here by inviting drivers to just slowly drive "the loop " for an entire Sunday afternoon. Ought to be awesome!

Kudra,
You're exactly right! That's what they do all the time. If they find an article with a hundred positive things about education and one negative, guess which one they use?!
The WTS is so journalistically unethical - it's one of the main reasons I left.

This is what Jane Sanders said:
"The cost of education is very high, and we are one of the only industrialized nations in the world that doesn’t give some kind of strong support to higher education, that considers that that is a necessity. It used to be that higher education wasn’t a necessity, it is now. You don’t get anywhere now without at least a BA."
That's the real world, and more and more Witnesses realize it. That's why more and more will go on to college, and more and more will leave the WTS as they get educated and learn to think and question.
YES!!

I don't think there's any rule against belonging to more than one forum.

One more ignorant celebrity giving opinions about things of which they have absolutely no knowledge. She may have left the Witnesses, but seems to have remained a disciple of WTS "science."
Guess she didn't leave the JWs to get an education, eh? So sad, even if it was a case of nerves.

How Would You Handle Your Daughter Dating A Different Ethnic Person?
by minimus ini know of someone who's daughter is dating a young man from the bahamas.
the girl is 20 and he's 24 and was already married to an australian woman 10 years older than him.
he has no use for his crack addicted mother and he tolerates his younger sister that seems to be on the same course as her mommy.

The race and color are meaningless to me. What is of real concern is someone being infatuated with the "idea or concept" of another person. IE: being in love with a Bahamian man or a Japanese woman - irregardless of who they are as an individual. I had a sister and a niece who were like that, with not so great results.
I would love my daughter to fall in love with someone of a different race if he was great for her and they had a genuine love and respect for each other. No problems there at all.

Good luck. I've loved getting to know you here.
So, you're no longer going to have Internet access and can't post here from time to time? Wow, your new business must suck.
It seems strange that a new endeavor means you can never say hi to old friends from time to time, but must bid them farewell. What's with that?
Sorry - but these sort of posts seem really weird to me. "So long, you guys have been great, you've really changed my life, but I'll never talk to you or post here again. Farewell."
Why not: "Hey, I'm starting a new business and will be busy, so you won't hear from me as much." Why a big announcement and farewell?
This is the strangest part of this website, as far as I'm concerned, as though someone has decided to disfellowship themselves as opposed to just saying I'll be busy and not here as often. Why such finality and drama??
