is anyone here from the springfield (south unit) or anywhere around that area that i might know?

Actually, I'd bet that most who leave are not the dysfunctional type, but quite the opposite.
When I look back, I realize it took incredible courage for me to walk away from the JWs. What I lost in family, friends, the respect of people I loved - Christ, that would have killed a lot of people, and there are a ton of you on here who know that as well!
Dysfunctional, my ass! Most of us here left because we were far too functional!

According to Wiki, NOTHING happened on the day I was born, but, and you're going to LOVE this, according to another site, guess what was released on my birthday!!:

Strangely, that was the book that we studied when my family became Witnesses in the early 1960s, and I think I knew then that it was released on my b'day!
And then I found this, which for a writer, is just so fitting:

Sorry, Lloyd, that gentleman is from Springfield, VERMONT, and I got to meet him and the entire film crew when The Simpson's Movie premiered there a couple of months ago! Awesome! I can send pics for proof.
We used to have our DC for years at the Springfield, MA Civic Center, and I gave talks at them from about 1977 until we switched to Amherst, MA sometime in the 1980s.
Knew quite a few elders down that way due to the conventions. Do you remember any names?

Here are a couple of Lori and I, and one of my youngest granddaughter Alyssa that I took last year and love. I've run our pics before, but it's been a while.
Tomorrow (9/27) is Lori and my 3rd anniversary living together! Wow - did that go fast!

years ago, even if people were bothered by the door knocking, it was still said that people admired their zeal and conviction.

For many JWs, being a JW is a cultural thing - this is where family and friends are - and less a system of actual belief.
There are some hardliners, but I know many still-active JWs who just figure it's a pretty good way of life, even though they don't really believe most of it. They'd never say that aloud - it's just shown in their actions.
