The ineffectiveness of the Watchtower Society preaching work
by RULES & REGULATIONS inhow can the watchtower society claim effectiveness in their 140 years of preaching the ''good news''..... spending billions of hours in ''field service'', having the ''faithful and discreet slave'' lead the preaching work, passing out billions of watchtower literature since the 1870's, while the pentecostals have been more effective using other evangelical methods?

A Question for Born-ins Who Had a Parent Leave the Cult Before They Did
by jp1692 inquestion: have any of you that are now exjws had a parent leave the religion before you, and you shunned them because of that?
if so—and while you were still in the cult—what, if anything, could your parent have done to reach your heart and begin a reconciliation?
it’s been almost ten years since i left the religion and my two sons continue to shun me and rebuff all efforts i make to reconcile.

I doesn’t help that JWs for the most part only associate with ones in their congregation too. It’s easy for some reason for JWs to just forget a their friends and loved ones if their not attending the congregation they go to.
Im also in your shoes not dfd just not going. The problem is they the cult members are so ingnorant of every thing yet enjoying their fake lives with their fake friends they just don’t stop to ponder what’s wrong with the situation their in. It’s been said most JWs don’t wake up until they become a victim in some way of the cults teachings or policies. So the sad fact is they may never wake up and if your dfd they may never give you the time of day.
Ive started going back because of this , it’s better to me a marginal JW and have your family then being out and not having anyone. It’s would be great to stand on a mountain with a deity shining a light down on you stating that your right and your a righteous good person but if no ones listening then what does it matter.

Climate Change - True Believer or Skeptic?
by Simon inclimate change ... who doesn't believe it?
crazy fools and science deniers ... right?.
it seems like it's become the new religion, the new orthodoxy, that must be accepted and believed as gospel and preached to all.. is it ok to be skeptical?.

I think climate is definitely being effected by humans and thier fossil fuel use. But the sun and the distance the earth is from it also effects the climate as well as many other factors. I watched a documentary on the Amazon rain forests and they said this place put out a huge amount of oxygen but the people and the animals in the area use it all. So deforestation may do more to harm humans in time then climate change from burning fossil fuels.

Do You Think The Bible Teaches A Trinity As Religions Teach?
by minimus ini’m not asking whether you believe in the bible.
i just want your opinion as to whether you think the bible teaches it.
i don’t, for what it’s worth..

What most people don’t realize is the New Testament books were written to push a sects ideas and then later books were written to destroy that idea etc.. One example is their was a sect that believed the Christ was a Seperate deity to Jesus the man and at his baptism this Christ entered into his body ie the Dove. Then when Jesus died the Christ left him ie” why have you forsaken me?!” 1john was later written to refute this idea.
The trinity was much the same, different ideas to the nature of Jesus and finally ended up with some what of a trinity by 325 and then refined more after.

Is JW.Org the true religion?
by Maria Nieves injw.org states that they are the true religion.
i was told that it is written in the bible that jw.org is the true religion.
the following is the "alleged" evidence that was presented to me:.

Well first off if it were that simple don’t you think Satan would make sure and start a religion after gods name. Secondly, in reality if you read the whole chapter he is referring to Israel as his people. Israel is the name of the people that are of his name because El is the original name of thier god. Jehovah is a made up name of god of the Bible by a Catholic monk. So how can one argue their a people of his name when the name is totally wrong.
Religion opium of the ignorant.

Meaning of Luke 9:49,50
by truthlover123 inthese two verses indicate that "others" were preaching in jesus' name and when the apostles reported it to him, he said "let him alone for he who is with us is not against us".... since the wtbts states they are the only way to salvation, what does this scripture mean?
others have the right to salvation as well - straight from jesus' mouth- as long as they preach ( in the verse it says expel demons as well) using jesus name?

There is also a scripture in one of the writings attributed to Paul where he says I don’t preach where Christ has already been preached or something to that effect. Bottom line is if you believe in the Bible and it’s writings then it’s clear to anyone who actually reads it that the NT was all about the worship and belief in Jesus Christ and all those who believe in him would be saved.
Knowwhere does it say that only a certain groups of Christ’s followers or believers would be saved and all other Christians killed. John chapter 3 all who believe have everlasting life !!!

Giving fake address to elder
by Addison0998 inso i got married a few weeks ago, living a great life now with my husband, he was definitely the perfect guy for me :) but anyways, we are going to work on slowly fading, going to meetings once a week or every two weeks, and then in a few months move to a hall where nobody knows our families and the elders hardly know each other, and fade out a lot more.
but an elder asked for our address, which we didn’t feel comfortable giving him, because we don’t want any unexpected visits to “shepard” us, when we miss a few meetings, because they already text us when we miss 2 meetings in a row, which we had just gotten back from our honeymoon 🙄 so we “accidentally” gave him the wrong apartment number.
so if they ever come pokin around they will be lost, and if they call or text us we will just have an excuse for not replying.

One thing that can work for you is your newlyweds. If they do find you and ask why your not at meetings as much just say “well we’re newlyweds and we’re just really enjoying each other if you know what I mean” . They’ll usually leave you alone for awhile.

Need Help - How do I refute this???
by HappyBlessedFree inso i was talking with my husband about all the things the organization is doing ie.
hiding pedophiles, lying about what 1914 was etc.
so his response was that the nation of israel had times when they weren’t doing the right thing, but it was still gods chosen organization.. another topic we were talking about was disfellowshipping.

Even if a man was thrown out of the congregation for sleeping with his step mother no where does it say if he stopped and repented would he still need to be shunned and punished for a year or more.

Have him turn over to Mathew chapter 1: verse 22 I believe where it says that a boy will be born of a Virgin and they’ll call him Emanuel and it’s to fulfill a prophecy. Then have him turn over to Isaiah chapter 7:14 where this prophecy is stated. No big deal right , just confirmed it. Ok now have him read the whole chapter of Isaiah 7 from the beginning. You’ll find it has nothing to do with a coming messiah or Jesus or anything in a future time only about the king Ahaz and his enemies from Syria and before a kid named Emanuel is old enough to do something (can’t remember) Ahaz enemies will be no more.

Is The Watchtower Society Just Copying The Mormon's Model?
by pale.emperor inwhen i was a faithful jw i was pretty much obsessed with the mormon religion.
to me it was like lord of the rings.
i knew the characters, the history, the events, the joseph smith stories, the religion's history etc etc etc and i long suspected even then that the watchtower society has been copying certain things from the lds church.. for example, the first thing i noticed was when the book study was dropped and family worship was started.

I don’t think the JWs ever really had an original idea. Russell stole most his ideas from the Millerites and john Aquila Brown. Since then the other stole ideas from the seventh day Adventist’s and they even stole the idea of 1975 from Herbert Armstrong. Now it would seam they are getting their cues from Scientology and the Mormons.
