  There's the old expression "any port in a storm". But the disdraught woman "Stephanie" should really pass up the Lloyd Evans "port". His is a trap, not a port of safety.
  

  I'll make one more observation,... something that I can't help but notice. I enlarged "Stephanie's" avatar picture and took a screenshot of it. I realize that she very likely already had that photo as an avatar before writing to Lloyd Evans. She is an attractive young woman. Her pose in the photo would be a welcome sight to a boyfriend. If she knows about Lloyd Evans' decision that self-control is for dummies, then her photo is an invitation. If she doesn't know about his exploits, she can still easily find out that he is married. Lloyd has no professional credentials, to my knowledge. Without those, he can't be charged legally with a violation of his "duty of care" to the young woman,...because "professional activist" doesn't HAVE a "duty of care" requirement. This is like watching a train wreck in slow motion.

  You're quite a historian, Anna Marina. That avoidjw website is fabulous, isn't it? Watchtower has been churning out garbage for such a long time. Even the Finished Mystery book (1960's?) had silly, petty things that were heralded as grandiose fulfillments of prophecies. And I thrilled to it. Yep, I waded through Fred Franz' verbiage to understand those golden nuggets of truth. (Sigh) Cults do that to people's power of reason.

  So, "The Watch Tower, Herald of Christ's Presence, not Zion's Watchtower". Okay, thanks. The belief system that it presented was the gift that keeps on giving. My grandparents "found the truth" and sadly their three children inculcated Watchtowerism (with all its hypocrisy) into their children, too.

  Anna Marina, I'd had no idea that J P Morgan backed Zion's Watchtower. The name J P Morgan only made me think of finances.

  Diogenesister, It’s my hope that the Watchtower mistreatment of those discarded elders will eventually cause the former elders’ brain cells to start firing and for them to wake up. It took many betrayals by the Watchtower Society for me to realize that they didn’t care whether I lived or died. In fact, I suspect that if they cared at all what was happening to me, a few may have been favoring the latter option. Watchtower’s worst fear was probably that a recovering alcoholic elder might blab a deep, dark Watchtower secret.

  Anna Marina, ... remembering a case long ago... A pretty, young sister in my congregation, a daughter in a large JW family, fell in love with a “worldly boy”. They committed fornication, but wanted to be married. She confessed and repented, intending to marry him after confessing to the elders. The elders consulted the Society. The elders were willing to accept her repentance on condition that she not marry the “worldly boy”. Well... no. They were madly in love and wanted to be married. She married the young “worldly boy” and was immediately disfellowshipped for at least a year.

  She wouldn’t otherwise have been disfellowshipped for marrying a “worldly boy”. But the Watchtower Society leveraged her sin of fornication into a way to keep her from marrying the “worldly boy”. When that didn’t work, they disfellowshipped her. Watchtower’s control over its members is complete. I, along with the rest of the congregation, didn’t speak to her until she was reinstated.

  Anna Marina, I've heard a lot lately about "pyramids", and not just regarding the removal of the one in the cemetery by Watchtower. I read a new (one year old) research paper that said the Dawn (Bible Students) are still very protective of the lore surrounding "pyramids". I haven't confirmed this yet with its members, but I'd thought that any "pyramids" teachings were just quaint (but erroneous) relics of the distant past. I think it's eerie and ridiculous to give any scriptural importance to "pyramids". (I'm not referring to "pyramids" as in Eric Wilson's video on proof of the flood. I was referring to any "numerology" beliefs connected with pyramids.)

  They are completely “programmed”. Of course, we want them to wake up. But they have to want that for themselves in order for that to happen. Using “reason” with them is futile. Anybody currently accepting a “Bible study” from them should end that study and RUN while they still can. I was “born in”, so I had never known anything else. Christian freedom is such a blessing.

  Yes, Anna Marina. Watchtower’s hypocrisy is revolting. Once we “see it”, it can’t be “unseen”. We trusted Watchtower’s leaders. We believed them. We sacrificed for them. And they were gluttonous ingrates. They wrung every last drop of energy from us. Though my youth is gone, I am glad to finally know that it was only a mirage,... all smoke and mirrors,... and not my fault that I could never please them.

  Many who have been disfellowshipped from Watchtower for immorality actually did commit immorality, admitted it, and were sorry for it... but were nevertheless disfellowshipped.

  While disfellowshipped, and trying to be re-instated, some have “woken up” to the reality that Watchtower is a cult. Sins should be repented for to God and to the one sinned against, not to the Watchtower-appointed elders. There is much to learn and unlearn while “waking up”. Ray Franz’ second book was called “In Search of Christian Freedom”. I bought and read his book. Christian freedom doesn’t mean living with no morals. Those who live with no morals are slaves of sin. I believe that Lloyd’s followers have been duped... first by Watchtower, and now by Lloyd.
