  for newbies, who was carl olof jonsson?

  he was a jw in sweden who was challenged by a householder in the 1960s, who pointed out to him that secular history books don’t agree with watchtower that jerusalem was destroyed in 607 bce, but instead place the event 20 years later.

  the reason the date is important is because it is the starting date for jw chronology which leads to 1914 as the end of the gentile times, and the beginning of the last days, as jws understand it.

  "Exactly how accurate is the timing of planatary orbits? They are so accurate and so predictable that scientists have been able to create algorithms which will allow us to know exactly where each planet in the solar system was at any time in recorded history. In fact, there is an excellent app that you can download and run on your smartphone or tablet called SkySafari 6 Plus, which is available on the web or from the Apple and Android stores. With it, you can see precisely where a particular planet described on VAT 4956 was in the sky on a given date to see if the positions match. If they match, then the data on VAT 4956 are proven to be accurate .

  "I would recommend you download it yourself so you can do your own research. Make sure you get the Plus version of the app as the cheaper version does not allow calculations for years before Christ."

  From page 130 of Eric Michael Wilson's book, we read:

  "According to the translation of the VAT 4956 tablet, during Year 37, Month 1 of Nebuchnezzar, King of Babylon, Saturn was in front of the Swallow. The Swallow is the region of the night sky we now call Pisces. The night sky is divided into 12 regions. Saturn passes through all of them on its 29.4 year-long orbit.

  "That means that Saturn takes 2.42 years to move through each of the 12 constellations. Once Saturn moves out of Pisces, it will not return there for another 27 years. According to Babylonian astronomers, Saturn was in Pisces in Nebuchadnrzzar's 37th year which astrologists set at 568 BCE.

  "Running our SkySafari Plus program and setting the time and date to Friday, April 22, 568 BC, 1:00 AM, location: Baghdad, we get an image showing the planet Saturn within the Pisces (Fish) constellation (Figure 16)."

  I'll step in just for a moment. Eric Michael Wilson's book has a heading "A Humble Sister Uncovers the Lie of 607 BCE, page 120 of "Shutting the Door to the Kingdom of God, How Watchtower Stole Salvation from Jehovah's Witnesses". Page 122 has the heading "The Record of Kings: The 20 Years that Never Existed".

  Punkofnice, I agree. Watchtower stole our lives from us. It was a criminal act. I did eventually go to college. I got a paralegal degree. But no one would hire me as a paralegal, because I was too old. This is what some of the younger ones, who woke up while still young and strong, don't understand. Watchtower stole not only those early adult years... when we were full of life, dreams, and energy, ... but it also doomed us to live out our later years eeking out a living.

  When a person, through a travesty of justice, is wrongly convicted and later found innocent, in the US, that person can sue the government and receive monetary compensation. The government can't give them those years of life back, but they at least give them $money$ as compensation,... sometimes $50,000 or more,... for the wrong that the government did to them. Watchtower doesn't even give an apology.

  i would like to share an experience from my younger days, which now as i sit here i can't believe it's almost been 10 years now since this happened.

  it still feels like it was yesterday.. so my family and i moved out of our old hall and wanted to start new because of the crap we all went through in the old hall.

  I see from your avatar that you are a male person, so forgive me for the analogy that I'm about to make. I'm female. After Watchtower assisted my (now ex) husband in extricating himself from our marriage, I read a book written by a woman (not an exjw) who had had to flee an abusive husband. I can't even find the quote online now, because the book is so old. But she said something that resonated with me. (I'll try to get the gist right.) She said, "I know that I can love again, but I can never love with the same energy again." Shattered Dreams: An Abused Wife's Escape to Freedom Paperback – May 1, 1998 by Susan Stewart (Author)

  It's great that we are free of Watchtower, but the youth, energy, hopes, and dreams that they stole from us, they have no way of replacing even if they were sorry,... which they aren't.

  At Luke 22::28-30, Jesus said to his apostles,

  "28 “You have stayed with me in my time of trial. 29 And just as my Father has granted me a Kingdom, I now grant you the right 30 to eat and drink at my table in my Kingdom. And you will sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel."

  Watchtower deprives almost all of its 8,500 members of the right to sit on thrones and judge.

  Nice point, Rattigan350. I found an online zoom group that partakes of the emblems once a month. I hadn't partaken for a year, so I made sure to attend their group recently and to have my bread and wine ready. I like being with other people when I remember Christ's death, even if it is through zoom, and even though I realize that only a few in the group share all or most of my beliefs. It's more of a "recovery from Watchtower" group than an "agreement of doctrine" group. So, I've had my Memorial for this year already, and may partake of the emblems several more times in the coming year.
