How does one feel when they can't answer?

i'm dating a jw.

i have asked him several questions that would be categorized as "thinking" questions and i knew he'd have a tough time finding answers.

whenever i wouldn't get an answer to 3-5, i was moving on to the next 3-5. over a year's time, just about all have gone unanswered... just dropped... non-existent at this point.

Fernando... I've come from so many different angles that I think opening my mouth becomes a perceived attack. I think he goes into shutdown mode.

I've asked him to respect the existence of a position I've always known when attempting to "understand" his. I've also asked him to respect the truth of Proverbs 18:17 especially with respect to being sure of all things. I can feel him coming towards me when citing scripture - until it counters that which HE'S always been told to believe.

I thought he was going to lose it when I had him read 1 Timothy 4:3. When you read that verse, to make it make sense I knew he'd have to read the first 2 verses. I told him that passage alone would make me keep my mouth shut on the prohibition of ANY marriage. He got stuck at the first 2 verses....

When he told me that the Israelites were told not to marry the Canaanites, I told him I wasn't from Canaan and then asked him why he's not looking for a Jewish woman to marry if he's going to remain within the context of the Bible.

....another topic we probably won't be returning to. *sigh*

These two topics are 2 of I can't tell you how many. In trying to frame thinking questions, maybe I'm coming off as a smart alec.

HELP please! archives of old WT missing?

i just bumped an old thread, that had each year from 1800's to like 1950's of the wt magazines, the links now say the pages are missing.

please let them be somewhere else.

i really need them, it's super important, and something everyone will benefit tremendously from when i'm done!.

I'm dating a JW. I have asked him several questions that would be categorized as "thinking" questions and I knew he'd have a tough time finding answers. Whenever I wouldn't get an answer to 3-5, I was moving on to the next 3-5. Over a year's time, just about all have gone unanswered... just dropped... non-existent at this point.

This is a lot to take in for an outsider. I have now digested the notion that I should have asked one question at a time and waited for that answer before moving on.

I'm curious. What conversations went on in your minds when asked to answer for WT doctrine that you weren't so sure about? You may have been sincere when telling the person you'd check on things, but did you? Did the requestor eventually become not worth saving?

so elder x came over the other day to convince me about why jehovah's witnesses have 1914 correct.

i wrote about this some time ago, but the elder never returned.

he caught me off-guard, and unprepared.. he went through the reasoning book (p95), and pointed out all the reaons (day for a year, daniel, 360 days, 2520 ...).

I love how they didn't know that they were chosen in 1919 until ...was it the 1930's?...

Kinda convenient if you ask me.

News Correspondant: "So, Mr. President, how WAS that message conveyed?"

Rutherford: "It happened in 1919 and wasn't conveyed to me. It just IS."

News Correspondant: "And there you have it folks! It just IS."

... with that line of reasoning, of course everything fits.

i am also aware that many of these are the same arguments that stemmed from the 'awakenings at bethel' so my statements are not simply attacks of jwfact's character (since these arguments are probably not original) but rather his copy and paste of what others have said instead of verifying it as 'fact' for himself.. so here are jwfacts arguments:.

1. he shows that russell and rutherford (at some point) believed that the great crowd were in heaven.. 2. each term that describes the great crowd of revelation 7 is else used to described the anointed by the wt.

I'm still baffled as to why one would worship a god so small that he'd only be able to fit 144,000 in his plan of salvation discussed throughout the Bible. Why dedicate so much of the Bible to salvation when such a small fraction of the ENTIRE EXISTENCE OF MAN is going to be there? What hope do I have? Billions of people have lived and died but the total number you believe the Creator of the Entire Universe can fit in Heaven is the equivalent of the stadium spectators of around 3 NFL football games on a Sunday afternoon.

If that's what your NWT says, go with it. Good luck.
