"They call themselves true prophets that ain't inspired"
OMG... I gotta stop laughing... I've got tears rolling down my face!
BEHOLD, THE UNINSPIRED TRUE PROPHETS!
however, the prophet who presumes to speak in my name a word that i have not commanded him to speak or who speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet must die.

he's asking if i've read the first page of the new watchtower.. says page 8 admits and exposes the society's mistaken expectations.. says that both mags have been adjusted to reflect the understanding of generation.
asking if it is my position that witnesses have made claims to be inspired prophets.... and saying if it is, maybe *we* can consider together some examples in the bible of others who have had wrong expectations and have gone ahead of god's timetable and see how god handled that..
I know it's a crack, but this has been the biggest crack, and it means the world to me. I wasn't doing so well on my own.
MindBlown and Scenic: Phenominal scriptural contexts...
Fink, Bill, Sulla, Exwhy, Aussie, Extractor & Terry: Your words are unraveling the logic and helping tremendously in framing my approach
LG, Cedars, JW: Given what he is saying, I'm going to be diving into the historical contexts.
Kep, MrFreeze, Hint and Stillin: I am absolutely loving the splash of dry sarcasm.

You have no idea how powerful your thoughts have been in this conversation. I'm sorry I'm unable to keep you updated in a more timely manner but I'm reading and grabbing as I go. It's working. From quotes to scripture, I have used much of what everyone has given me.
He was trying to tell me he was uncomfortable with the statement on page 136 not 134 (remember, he was at work):
"Jehovah's Witnesses do not claim to be inspired prophets. They have made mistakes. Like the apostles of Jesus Christ, they have at times had some wrong expectations.-Luke 19:ll; Acts 1:6."
Flying down the wrong road, I asked
"Wouldn't an ill informed thought of an early Christian be a little different than a 20th century governing body with an entire written Bible to use as a reference? I read both scriptures including Acts 1:6... but why didn't the person who wrote this Reasoning book read the very next verse... Acts 1:7?"
I haven't gone wrong, but I realize I've been focused on my challenge with the whole masthead change which is that "Creator's promise" part. I have to get better at listening (even via text) because apparently, after reading the 1972 article I sent him eariier yesterday, HIS challenge is with the statement,
"Jehovah's Witnesses do not claim to be inspired prophets."
I was apprehensive about using quotes that were too old (because of the "adjustments" required to "old lighting") but if that's the phrase he's honing in on, all's fair.
Cedars, not sure when that book was published, but again, all's now fair. I'm building that in to this.
JW - will be reviewing jwfacts for more quotes. THANKS!
Before I forget, I may have hit below the belt with this text,
"The December 2011 WT, says that 'elders are appointed by the holy spirit...' Uh, THE Holy Spirit?... Like... The same Holy Spirit that Ananias lied to? Didn't he fall dead afterwards? The One that Peter referred to as the Spirit of the Lord himself? HE APPOINTS JW ELDERS???... Respectfully I'm asking how is that message conveyed? Is this the same method of transmission used for the uninspired articles? Help me make this make sense."
Next text,
"In August 2001, I see that the WT says a mature Christian has complete confidence in the truth as it is revealed by Jehovah God through his Son, Jesus Christ, and the faithful and discreet slave. This F&DS is on the same level as Jesus Christ??? REALLY?!? Jesus seemed to be a lot better at giving accurate information... "
for any old-school ex-jws here that remember my many posts about my abusive jw mother and my sister committing suicide because of it...she passed away this morning because she began to bleed out and refused a transfusion.
she had been in the hospital for a month.
it appears she suffered a stroke and wasn't found by the brothers & sisters for three days (they missed her at the meetings).
This has to hurt terribly.
Don't let the regrets take over you. That street went both ways. Given what I've read on here, you may have been protected from a response to your extension of an olive branch that may have been even more painful than the silence you *heard* for years. I've read some painful testimonies.
Forgive her - hate the cult that took her.

JACKPOT!!!!!!!!
Folks! There's a crack! YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS
I'm hearing (via text) a discomfort with the fact that the Reasoning Book written in 1989 says they've never claimed to be prophets while my article sent was written in 1972.
I'll catch you up on the conversation in a few. He's been at work and so the messaging has been fragmented.

Oh, wait... dumb question.... an expectation is way different than a promise from the Creator Himself.

He's pointing this out to me....
The apostles and other early Christian disciples had certain wrong expectations, but the Bible does not classify them with the "false prophets."-SeeLuke 19:ll; John 21: 22, 23; Acts 1:6, 7.
Nathan the prophet encouraged King David to go ahead with what was in his heart regarding the building of a house for Jehovah's worship. But later Jehovah told Nathan to inform David that he was not the one who would build it. Jehovah did not reject Nathan for what he had said earlier but continued to use him because he humbly corrected the matter when Jehovah made it plain to him.-1Chron. 17: 1-4, 15.

Just because I don't respond to you individually, I'm incorporating as many of your suggestions in my texting dialog with him as I can.
You guys keep typing, I'm reading, absorbing and incorporating as I go.

So, he asked me if I had a copy of the book called "Reasoning from the Scriptures"... I told him I have the internet, I can get anything. He said this book may not be online. (have I mentioned I really love these people?)
So, three minutes later, I had the sacred writings. Reviewing it now. Not sure what I'm looking at or for...
Here's one gem that pi$$ed me off....
If any individuals or organizations claim to represent God but decline to use God's personal name, and make it a practice to express their own opinions on matters, are they measuring up to this important qualification of a true prophet? - Page 133
What scripture did they use for THAT piece of biblical wisdom....
They're kidding me, right? *sigh*
i have mentioned a few times on this board that my jw's brother just will not let it go with me and continues to prove to me that jesus disciples and other prophets in the bible have given "false" prophecies" or "wrong expectations" concerning the end of the world.
he feels that jw's should not be condemned for their many false predictions.
as always the first thing he will tell me is that "jw's admit to their mistakes therefore we are not false prophets.
I'm with Ding... Paul heard that some folks were claiming that the day of the Lord had come and warned (under inspiration, I might add) not to be thrown off by them. I'm kinda thinking this was an affirmation to Luke 21:8 and Matt 24:36. He was admonishing them.
The letters circulating were not inspired, but Paul's words were. Kinda like today, the WTS info is not inspired, but Paul's warning was under divine inspiration. I don't see where the text allows for permission to ball this up - from 1st century letter writing Christians to WTS writers today.
