i had been studying with the jehovah's witnesses for the last couple years.
they have been interesting study sessions and have learned quite a bit about them and their beliefs.
much of what they teach is what i had learned through personal bible study.. growing up was normal.
WELCOME, my fellow worldly! I'm really glad you had an opportunity to open yourself up to understanding another faith. I, too, am able to cross lines and I love entertaining discussions about variant faiths. I'm really impressed that you appear to have thoroughly adopted the language of JWism!
As one who was confirmed Episcopalian; attended a Presbyterian middle school, Catholic High School and Catholic university; and, culturally, identified with and attended church with friends of the Baptist faith with an occasional (3/year) synagogue experience with other friends and also went to Jewish and Christian summer camps, I have a few questions.
1. I see that you were ".. raised by Christian parents and did the whole Christian thing." Other than those holidays and going to church, can you explain specifically what you mean by "the whole Christian thing"? What does that mean?
2. "The stories were nice..." can you share the differences between the stories you heard at the church and the ones you've read in the Watchtower and other publications? I find the ones in the Watchtower to be very different. Given our similar backgrounds, I'm curious as to what you see.
3. "Three people in one..." ? um... I'm really curious now. To my knowledge, all Baptist faiths are Trinitarian, but I've never heard of a Baptist faith that says God is "three people in one" .... Which Baptist faith were you raised in?
4. Arguments at the Bible readings. That's an interesting term to use, "Bible readings" Can you tell me more about these Bible readings where arguments broke out? That must have been a really different type of Baptist Church. And you say during the "reading" arguments would break out? How exactly did the congregation members express their discontent? Was this encouraged? And you say the arguments were about God's name? Are you telling me your Baptist church had a preference? I could see how "Jehovah" the name created by a Roman Catholic monk a few hundred years ago wouldn't necessarily be the first name used of the list of many names, but arguing about it when it's not part of the doctrine is fascinating to me. I would definitely love to know the name of this church!
On the visit you received from the JWs - they did that because they're told to. Again, given our similar backgrounds, I'm not clear on your confusion with respect to the response of the adherents in the Baptist church. Can you help me?
Also, please, share your thoughts on the similarities and differences of the churches you and your wife attended/grew up knowing!
I am really glad you found the religion you desire!
are you moving on?.

Quirky1, we are missing Killa and BrokenPrincess. I'm not comfortable with these types of statements. I know they're sincere at the time they're spoken, but ... this is hard.
The WT is not worth the life you have left.... Don't give it to them.
Stay with us. Whatever way you have to, stay with us.

i hate feeling like there's nothing i can do to help my friends.
i'm hurting for them today..

that's the bottom line to watchtower theology and the watchtower has admitted as much.
unfortunately, the average jw is clueless as to his actual position before jehovah.. the below is written for active jw's.
if people understand all this, and they want to remain jw's that's fine with me.
I want to say it was on page 15.

Aw, that is wrong on so many levels...

(1) You are Not Justified (2) Jehovah is Not Your Father (3) Jesus is Not Your Mediator
I have found references to WT literature stating as such (as recently as June, 2011). How many R&F slept through this part of the meeting? Do most know that Jesus' promise(s) only apply to the annointed?
....Or do they read the Bible believing it applies to them too (like those other Christians)
he's asking if i've read the first page of the new watchtower.. says page 8 admits and exposes the society's mistaken expectations.. says that both mags have been adjusted to reflect the understanding of generation.
asking if it is my position that witnesses have made claims to be inspired prophets.... and saying if it is, maybe *we* can consider together some examples in the bible of others who have had wrong expectations and have gone ahead of god's timetable and see how god handled that..
LG, I put it on hold at my local library.
He just sent the most heartfelt e-mail of defeat saying that he can't change failed predictions in the Watchtowers from years ago and that he hopes that he can try to help me see that they're not false prophets.
Please know, he's showing no arrogance - only humility. His efforts are so loving and sincere. It's probably hard for him to see it, but mine are too.
How can an entity do this to people and call itself honorable...
don't remember it being brought up here and something made me think of it so i thought i'd post it here.. here's the link from the segment.
it shows up at around the 5:45 mark of the clip: .

I was paying attention to the first one and couldn't see the correlation. Then came 5:45...
THIS IS PRICELESS!
PM'd you back. :)
