Heaven, I agree, the society must really be pushing that message strongly for her to reach out to me out of the blue, same for your cousin.

As I have revealed in other threads my mother and I havent talked in over 2 years. She has been keeping her distance, therefore staying loyal to Jehovah. She found me on Facebook. At first it was normal chit chat, she didnt even know she had a new grandchild. The conversation quickly shifted to "son, i know you don't want to hear this, but the end is very near, there isnt much time left."
I replied:
Mom, when someone can explain to me why there has been over a thousand child abuse cases in Australia alone that have not been reported to authorities. When someone can explain why Geoffrey Jackson, member of the governing body denied his own faith during ARC questioning and stated that it would be presumptuous to assume that jws are God's only channel, but yet that is what is preached to millions of people by jws. When someone can explain why the end was predicted in 1914, 1925 and 1975 and why Beth Sarim was built in San Diego in 1925 to accommodate the princes of old then secretely sold by the society when the end didnt come. When someone can explain why the society changed their stance on blood and countless people died in the process believing that they were following God's orders. Maybe then, I would consider it. There are alot of dark things behind the scenes of the organization that you probably dont want to talk about. I doubt anyone could or would even want to answer these questions to my satisfaction.
She replied:
"It is clear how you feel. All of your questions could be answered if you put Jehovah to the test, but I cant convince you, you have to allow it, we will talk soon."
Did I strike a nerve? Thoughts? Was there a recent study article written about reaching out to "inactive" ones?

Your work is not in vain! Thank You!
by de-opresso-liber inbeen lurking since early this year.
there are many of us out there (at least in this area, central u.s.) who are waking up and crossing the line to talk to each other about it.
in our area, several elders, ministerial servants and pioneers are actively and openly sharing info with each other daily.

Thanksgiving??
by HereIgo inwith thanksgiving around the corner, i thought it would be interesting to hear how you, your family or other jw's you knew handled/celebrated thanksgiving.
it seems to me that most jw's view it as harmless and unofficially celebrate it the day before or the day after the actual holiday.
growing up, my mother would host a dinner the day after thanksgiving and used the excuse " well the traditional food for the dinner is discounted at this time, might as well have a dinner".

I am sure some of the die-hards wouldn't have any type of thanksgiving dinner even close to the holiday date. When I was a JW, no one ever really talked about the subject. Thoughts?

1 Step Forward and 3 Steps Back: Trying to Get My Mom to See 'The Light' (Oh the Irony!)
by Sorry inrecently, my mother's been hounding me to do personal study (i think she's slowly realizing i'm becoming disillusioned with the organization and is trying to reign me back in).
i don't know what made me do this, but i decided to test the waters by challenging 'new light'.
she asked me what i learned in personal study, so i brought up organ transplants and the wt flip floppy stance on them (thanks jwfacts!).

It is funny how your family and most jw's appreciate the fact that people who sin are "held accountable". My family also thinks this way. The question is, who is going to hold the GB accountable for their many flip flops??? " they are imperfect men". I cant tell you how many times I have heard that excuse. Why do they get a pass for being imperfect when EVERYONE on this earth is imperfect? how is imperfection a valid excuse to be a false prophet? You are on the right track, just continue to observe them and build a case. I am sure your family will realize your points eventually. My mother is also a die hard jw and every time she pressured me into telling her how I feel about the org, during the convo, she would say she doesn't want to talk about it anymore. This made me realize my points were hitting a nerve. My advice would be to keep it simple and bring out things like the Australian royal commission etc, it would be interesting to see how they justify that. Good luck

Suspicious Attitude Toward Married Brothers...
by JW_Rogue inthis is kind of different but i just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this.
it seems that younger married brothers are viewed with a certain level of suspicion in the congregation.
it's like the elders can be friendly with everyone in the hall including younger sisters.

Yes, I remember an elderly elder commenting how inappropriate it was for a single brother and single sister to walk through the parking lot together after the meeting, even innocent chit chatting. Keep in mind this is broad daylight roughly, 1 pm! smh..ridiculous

Guys were you ever on security at the assembly K.H ? Tell us your funny story's
by karter ini was on security at an assembly and we were told not to let anyone no matter who they were in before 730 am .
this bro who was always full of himself come along and wanted to be let in i said we were under strict instructions not to let anyone in before 730. he kept trying to talk me around and failed so he said " do you know who i am "?
i said " yes a humble servent of jehovah just like the rest of us".

I never worked security at the KH, but I did work it during assemblies and district conventions. I was the brother guarding the door when the bros were counting all of the donations. My job was to not let anyone in, not even Jesus himself. I remember all of the dirty looks people used to give me. I know they were thinking " who the hell do u think u are to not let me through?" I was just a punk 19 year old MS. LOL

How to accept and move on from JW's?
by Alostpuppydog injust like the title says, how does ones self start the transition out of the jw's belief system, since i will never be allowed to go to a kingdom hall and believe a lot of what they teach.. i guess more importantly how have you guys here moved on that have had some exposure to the jw's?.
any advice is more than welcomed and i thank those that have thus far replied to me!!
!.

I believe to transition from the JWs, one must first research the religion including all of the deep secrets that are not taught in the kingdom hall, then gradually fade from association from other jws.

Why take it personally?
by stuckinarut2 ina random thought occurred to me today.. i actually feel genuinely sorry for witnesses who cut contact with ones they feel are no longer "spiritual" .. they do this based not on anything that the person has actually done to them personally, but due to an imposed view from the society.. it must play havoc with their inner conscience as they try and reconcile that the person they cut off has not actually done anything to harm them, but they have to view them as evil.. it reminded me of this thread i started some time back.

Its very unfortunate when witnesses do this and shows just how self righteous some of them are. I have a fleshly brother who behaves this way. He cut off our sister who was struggling spiritually because she wasn't active at the meetings at that time. I remember being blown away at the arrogance he showed by not wanting to talk to her while she was "inactive". I guess he forgot that while baptized, he has had the police called on him for domestic violence as well as being drunk in public and arrested. The nerve!
