What did NOT get you out?
by problemaddict 2 ini realize this is odd, but a "how you woke up" thread and the personal stories that are told which i know we all enjoy, made me think of this.
in helping my wife and a couple others get the ball rolling, i realized the thing that resonated with me, didn't even move the needle with them.
i wanted to rail on and on about blood, because that was my conduit to waking up, but for my wife it was about shunning.

I think what did not prompt me to leave was the strong desire to - trust - someone I hoped knew a lot more than I did. Only when it became clear to me that my trust had been betrayed did things start to change. I am ashamed to say, that has taken the better part of 35 years. Hard to believe...

The "faithful slave" urges confession in latest Watchtower!
by The Searcher inwatchtower october 2017, page 11, par.
17 - confess and abandon secret sins.
some christians who have committed a serious sin try to cover it over in order to avoid embarrassing themselves or disappointing others.

Orphan Crow - thank you. Doesn't it call to mind the 'legally expedient' tactics used in front of the ARC, as well as in quite a number of child molestation cases elsewhere? How can such things be considered 'upright', 'honest', 'without guile'?

What woke you up?
by MrRoboto infor me, i think it was just the right time as i was starting to wake up on other fronts as well (anyone who had went through these will know what i mean).
but it started when i was looking for what info goes on a publisher card, which led to me reading one person's story (ex bethelite) which was pretty crazy to an all-in jw but who trusts those apostates...?.
then i started watching videos on cults, as if my subconscious was trying to tell my concord mind something... when i saw a particular one about a young man in lds getting ready to start their 2 year preaching campaign, including a school, social activities etc, i realized that i couldn't tell the difference between the folks of this mormon cult and the jws (save for some religious differences) .

Thanks for opening up this topic, Mr. Roboto. For me, it finally became impossible to suppress certain questions any longer. Due to my pre-witness existence, there were certain things I had gotten into which made me curious concerning the translation, and particularly the Interlinear. Poking around a little, came to discover that one of the scholars whose work was partially quoted (appendix of the Interlinear) had contacted the WTS, protesting their out-of-context use of his work, asking them to stop quoting him altogether, and to issue a public retraction of what they had done. This scholar (Julius Mantey) even went into some detail to explain to them what they had done in error, providing also specific source references to other scholars' work which showed the larger factual picture concerning the grammatical use of the Greek back at that time. The WTS then brushed it off with the reply 'you can keep your opinion, we'll keep ours'. They did not honor his request. Such blatant subterfuge and dishonesty finally kicked me hard enough.

What is behind your choice of forum user name?
by stuckinarut2 injust curious how we all think.. what prompted or influenced your choice of username for this forum?.
there are some really amazing names, and it would be great to hear the stories behind them.... mine was nothing fancy.
i just felt "stuck in a rut too" along with so many others.

Mine is kind of an autobiographical description. I have decided to try to turn my life around to what I had hoped it might have been (yes, I am admitting something here). I will die trying, at least. Who knows, maybe there will actually be something I had once hoped for...?

Jehovah's Witnesses act like 'Flirts' with people!
by stuckinarut2 inwe were just musing that jws act in a "flirtatious" manner with people in the community.. they show such "sincere" interest in people when they call.
they seem like such kind, caring and thoughtful people - really interested in their lives and welfare.. people are often quite impressed with the jws manner, and their well dressed presentation.
people (especially vulnerable ones who are going through difficult pressures in life), are drawn in and made to feel special by the witnesses as they call back.. return visits take place.

Yes, all very true. It gives the impression of being bought-and-paid-for PR people on retainer.
