why do witnesses call the new testament "greek scriptures"?

anybody know how the witnesses managed to demonize the expression, "new testament/old testament"?

my jw mother said "it's because when you call the hebrew scriptures the old testament, it makes them sound out of date, but they're really not because there is so much we can learn from blah blah blah blah blah blah".

any thoughts?.

The watchtower needs to redefine as much as possible in minds of their converts. It’s just the process of setting them apart from anyone else. Cults have to do this to completely brainwash their followers to buy into the rest of their crap. Cross, birthdays, blood, voting new testament/Greek scriptures and alike. They are slowly changing and adjusting things when they absolutely have too and calling it “new light”. Not because they admit to being wrong but only when they are forced adjust things by reality beating out their false teachings. It cracks me up when it happens. It’s happening more and more as time goes on.

You are way too sensitive. I am way to insensitive. As you know, I don’t call anyone unless I have something significant to say so don’t take it personal. For a long time I just haven’t had much to say to anyone.

You’re right, I have only done art most of my life as something to make money at. I am not emotionally attached to my art anymore than you are emotionally attached to your hammer. That is why I am trying to listen to a few art people I know and do what they say I should have done a long time ago. I’m trying to get excited about what I do but I can’t seem to really give a shit. I’m working on it.

Maybe it’s because I was raised without true emotion. It was only that fake crying crap you saw at the kingdom hall when someone got DFed. Maybe thats why I suck at relationships. Maybe this, maybe that. I don’t know. I just know I need to give a shit about something before I die. Maybe doing some art with some feeling to it will flip my switch. If you get a phone call from me, you’ll know it worked.

A Texas cowboy at the Louvre, boy the world is changing for the good. I haven’t known you for 22 years but if I had I would have been agreeing with Nina smacking you upside the head the whole time. Being humble can be a good thing but it has limits. I use to be like you, a quiet observer of life, then I got pissed and started giving my opinion. Sometimes that is a good thing and sometimes it’s just an opinion. It’s an Emperor’s New Clothes kind of thing. Sometimes you just need to
look around you and scream out “the guy is naked you morons!” Now I’m back to pretty much looking around and keeping my opinions to myself. Not humble, meek, or anything like that, just a bit quiet. I have found that a lot of people cannot, and will not, ever “get it”. Life goes on.

If it takes someone that you highly respect to tell you that you are smart and your opinions are worthy of consideration then that is just one more aspect of “getting it” if it works. If you have seen me in that way (which we have talked about before) then your respect has some purpose. Maybe Nina has just been too close to you for you to always see it from her. I know you do but hearing it from another person who is not so close to you and you respect can help open your eyes to what has been right in front of you the whole time. That is kind of why I started (as my artist friend has always told me) painting my dark side. Posting it here has only reinforced the fact that he was right. I can be such a stubborn son of a bitch. I have always painted what I knew was going to sell, not what I felt. I thought what I felt wouldn’t be understood or appreciated by anyone else besides myself. Now, who’s the dumb one? I’m going to keep doing this style for a while and knock out some dark stuff that I have thought about doing for years. I’ll post some of it here and I would love to know what you think.

Spending a short time of my life as a cop didn’t do much for me but give me a few shooting trophies and show me how incredibly stupid and deadly it was to drink and drive. Spending 26 years as a JW showed me how stupid it was to let others do my thinking for me. Even my mommy. Having a dark side was just accumulated from the many life experiences I had but I refused to let them turn me into a complete ass. I am just a half ass now but continue to work on it. I figured it out a while back, now I just need to put it all into a few images and stare at them from time to time and realize I made it through it all with most of my hair.

Quit being a tease. I would be happy to manipulate your breasts. Just ask your husband if it would be alright for you to fly halfway across the country to pose naked for a guy you have never met. I’m sure it will say “will he make your boobs look great”? You use to be such a sweetheart. You’ve been hanging out with your sister too much haven’t you?

Thanks for the complement. Chilling and somewhat haunting is what I was going for. I have a few more like this to do and I will post them here when I do them.

This piece depicts how I felt after realizing I had grown up being programmed to act and think according to the specific agenda of a cult and passed on to me through the hands of my parents. I was going to put blinders on the sides of they eyes like they do race horses but decided not to. Growing up a JW you can observe the world around you but your programming forces you to put it into an alternative reality designed by the watchtower. Once you are out and begin to learn to be honest with yourself, you see what you have always observed, but in a totally different perspective. That is why the eyes are looking directly up and only seeing the hands that are programming you without the full knowledge that you are being programmed. The blur on the right side of the face depicts the world around you being a blur and you can not see things fully in focus. The triangles above and below the eyes are like a mask where you hide who you really are as you are being programmed to be who they want you to be. The background is a confused mess of internal chaos that is made up of muted colors and non specific shapes. It is how I saw the world growing up. It was how I was programmed to see the world.

I call that style, “the style to get guys like my friend Ross to look at nudie art and admit it”.

I don’t think it has a name. I’m sure someone else has done it before I did but I don’t know who. It’s just something I played with and liked when I did it. I’m always experimenting. Gustav Klimt did similar work but had a lot more color in his work. I have always liked his stuff.

Is it all downhill after leaving JW's?

i know many people will get angry at this, but i had to share some observations i've had since i discovered this board a couple of days ago (see my original post under "why all the venom?").

i'll be very honest and say that i was hoping that i would discover that the jw's were wrong about some things, including the so-called "apostate" sites (i have been recommended to some internet sites and some books that i plan to investigate further).

i was hoping to find that people really didn't need the jw's "spiritual food" to remain true to god.

The JW’s are right if you choose to see it from their perspective. So are the Muslims, Jews, Mormons and the KKK. They all believe in god in their own way, just like the JW’s do. Which one is “more wrong? Is not believing in god the way the JW’s do less or more wrong than someone who does not believe in any kind of god at all? The JW’s think that anyone who does not believe in god the way they do is evil and wrong…or haven’t you got that far yet?

So, are the Mormons, Muslims, Jews and the KKK less wrong or is it the total non-believer that is? Do you have an opinion about this on your own or do you need to ask the person studying with you? Do you still have some of your own opinions? If you do, hold on to them. They are frowned on in the religion you are trying to adjust your perspective to align with. It’s good to see you question things here. You won’t be able to do that much longer where you are headed. But that is entirely up to you. No one here will get angry if you choose to do what ever you choose to do. It’s still your choice right now.

It’s all about interpretation and perspective.

Heathen,

Did someone piss in your puppy chow this morning? I can’t do the adolescent blood spitting out of a smashed head kind of art some of the young budding artists try to do. It doesn’t shock or impress me. This is just my interpretation of a dark moment in my life and how I felt. The dark part is in the feeling of what the image depicts, not so much the image itself. I just figured some here might understand that. Having the JW shit pounded into my head as a kid was fairly dark to me. It was even darker trying to get it all out. Granted, not as dark as the guts spread all over the front seat of a car or a severed head that I saw a few times as a cop, but that would make a sick piece of art. Dark is in the understanding eye of the beholder.
