  The point at which you think this may not be the truth

  i remember one of the nights that i found out the truth wasn't the truth, that is after finding out about the united nations, i remember riding my bicycle from like 1am till 5am in the city night.

  it was rather chilly, maybe about 55-60 degrees and i was playing pink floyd's dark side of the moon album in my earbuds.

  just riding and riding, not really tiring because of the thought that 7 men in brooklyn had duped me, duped me for like 20 plus years.

  For me?

  The shocking discovery that in 1985 my mother would choose to no longer even speak to me (because I had already long been faded - not DA or DF) simply because they told her to; researching Russell, and discovering the roots of the religion, his affiliation to the Masons (whether or not he was one is still not clear) but naming your Bible the "New World" Translation certainly indicates a very close affiliation; researching Rutherford and discovering what a drinker he was, that he authorized the purchase of Beth Sarim that he and his assistants would live in it complete with servants while the R&F were suffering during the depression; finding out about the 'Bethel Boys'; finding out about the JW's and the United Nations (that great old beast); reading Crisis of Conscience and learning that the GB rarely even prayed before making monumental decisions that affect every believer.

  Cart Witnesses Today - I am not impressed

  just approached a cart then with two jw girls holding out mags.

  they continued chatting to each other about car insurance when i took the watchtower from one of their hands.. ok, so it looks like i'll have to get the ball rolling.

  i asked if they were jehovahs witness.

  Modern day J.W.'s are unable to defend what they believe - so they don't even try now. Sad.

  Seriously?!! This is a wake up call. Hopefully it'll mean less people joining up and more people leaving over the next few decades.

  Perhaps just everyone signing up to work the carts.....don't need to talk to people- don't need to know my religion- don't need to explain it- don't need to defend it's teachings

  Just tell em to go to JW.org and check it out. What could be easier?!

  chasing me for a report

  i'm fairly new on here and i've told a lot of my story but to recap, after 60 odd years i've stopped going to the meetings.

  my husband had already left the truth years ago and my children didn't become jws.(phew!).

  i had a horrendous childhood growing up as a witness which included sexual assault by a close relative, also a jw.

  Hugs from all of us to you. My heart hurts for you. The very spiritual people who are supposed to be there for us.... ah well.

  My advice? Do nothing. Just ignore them. Begin to heal and live YOUR life, because by removing their power over you it truly becomes your life.

  Convention invitations

  so everyone is supposed to get all excited about the invitation work starting tomorrow, according to the announcement from the platform.. maybe this makes sense if you're giving out invitations in the city where the convention is, but what if you're many hours away?.

  a huge part of western canada is scheduled to attend edmonton alberta this july.

  so how does that go over giving out invitations in winnipeg, about a 13 hour drive(that's just driving time).. i know some are actually planning on flying there, so i can't see getting excited about getting the public to make the trek.. i was curious how this is going over in other areas?.

  OH great! Guess I will schedule my summer vacation July 21st so I am not inundated with all the JW's coming from near and far. At least Roger's Place will get a good cleaning after the Bob Dylan concert 2 days before!

  The denial of 1975 when and how did they go about it.

  i was pretty young in 1975, all i remember was a few complaining at the hall after and those at the door that razed us over it.

  does anyone remember how they went about denying it and when this started.

  i do remember a scripture in psalms about people being mighty and living longer so this was used.

  Right. I believed what you told me and its my fault for doing so. So I continue to believe what you tell me? I don't save for my retirement, I just believe that "Millions now living will never die".

  what is the .org's stance on hebrews 8:11 using the nwt:“‘and they will no longer teach each one his fellow citizen and each one his brother, saying: “know jehovah!”* for they will all know me, from the least to the greatest of them.

  " or the kjv "and they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, know the lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.

  doesn't this scripture indicate that we are no longer required to "preach the good news"?

  My New Fascination - Evolution!

  since leaving watchtower i kind of hit the "reset" button in my mind and reevaluated what i thought i knew, what i believe and i require proof for every idea put before me before i commit to it.

  lately i've been fascinated with evolution.

  as a jw i never even looked at the subject, dismissing it as "just a theory".

  where do i go now to get baptised?

  is baptism even a requirement for serving god or was that just for the disciples and people of that time.

  Never felt the HS, but I do still pray every day. I am not sure about praying to Jesus just yet but I do pray.

  Not everyone on this site is atheist or agnostic, some are like me...just not looking for organized religion, and certainly not looking for the JW version of the 'truth'.

  Legalities around summarising Ray Franz's book 'Crisis of Conscience'

  i know there has been a lot of discussion around the book 'crisis of conscience' and copyright infringement on this forum.

  hence the reason for my question.. in 2004, i couldn't believe my luck in finding this book in the city library.
