Griffin Assembly Hall (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) now a Megachurch
by Sanchy inmy mom, while pregnant with me, was one of thousands of jw volunteers to work on the construction of this once beautiful assembly hall in south florida circa 1984. it had a beautiful pond, waterfall, and even a resident alligator.
many remember it as well for it's huge plaster murals on the walls showing scenes of paradises.. pics as it was before (sorry for the low quality, struggled to find good pics of the auditorium as it was, if you have any good ones, do share them):.

I remember the sisters in our hall literally crying when the elder on the platform announced this Assembly Hall would be sold. If only they knew what it has become! All the hard work that all the jws put in making this hall so beautiful....wasted and sold to Babylon the Great!

I asked my son to stop playing football.
by The Rebel ini asked my son to stop playing football.
it was a simple kick about he was playing with a friend using the garage door as the goal.
i then went to my home and thought no more about it.

Good lesson. Thanks for sharing! And yes I think we all struggle sometimes with explaining ourselves accurately because we assume ppl know what we're talking about or the reasons why we say something. That applies in everyday life as u mentioned.

A Believer
Honestly no one here has the time or desire to teach you the truth about Jehovah's witnesses. To each their own. I pity ppl like you because you think you have something special but in reality your walking into something that's going to end up traumatizing you if you ever do realize it's not the truth. You'll see how loving all your jw friends are if you ever decide to leave. Good luck!

Walking away will get you D/Fed
by Drifting Away insomeone just told my wife, that those who are just leaving organization or not going anymore will be dfed, has anyone read that or heard of that?
i have seen nothing of that, and according to jackson at royal commission, we are free to go as we please...

No unless you walk away and openly do things they consider bad. You have to be careful and hide if you celebrate anything or go to other churches or talk negatively about org because then your spreading apostasy. They say your free to walk away but that's a lie. Because the moment you start living your life the way you want they disfellowship and take your friends and family away from you.... You don't have a choice

To love Jehovah more than friends and family.
by schnell inwhen i was a believer, i endorsed this idea too.
i commented with things like "love jehovah more than your mate" or "love jehovah more than your friends".. it didn't occur to me as i was saying it that jehovah is an idea.
this god concept is an idea that should really pass scrutiny if you're supposed to love it more than anything else.. at best, this means that jehovah is real and you have to love jehovah more than the people in your life, no matter the despicable things he is said to have done, condoned and endorsed in his holy writ.

Love this post because it's so true. And I dint have to feel pressured anymore to saying that nonsense... Cuz i never really felt it. I had to say my baptism day was the best day of my life...better than my wedding day or when my kids were born. Really? Does anyone who days this really mean it? I wonder....

That's beautiful! My hubby hit his one year mentally out mark last month and I woke up first week of March. That's the best present in itself I think. Can't ask for anything better than my life!

How to believe you deserve to relax
by rebel8 ini was brainwashed to believe you generally shouldn't relax much.. demons can enter you if you meditate or even relax your brain too much for one second.
always be on guard.. scriptures criticizing laziness were repeated often.
https://www.openbible.info/topics/laziness "be kind to yourself" and all that.. you need to strenuously exert yourself for jehoopla and you're worthless if you don't.. most forms of fun were extinguished.

Well I've got two babies that keep me pretty busy but if it wasn't for that.... i would definitely feel like this. What do i do with my time now that i don't need to go to mtgs or preaching or prepare for mtgs and preaching. Or have our family worship night? And for my husband especially since he had to constantly prepare parts every week and have elder mtgs and shepherding. Well thank god we don't because with these two babies it would have been crazy to do all that... i would not be very happy...in fact is I'd be very stressed and frustrated because just trying to get out of the house with these two is a mission. Honestly I don't know how JWs do it... No wonder they're always tired and stressed.

Leaving the jws is a "lifestyle choice" according to a counsellor
by purrpurr inso i had my first appointment with a counsellor, of course i explained about being a born in jw, mentally leaving, the penalty of doing so and therefore the mental strain of pretending to be someone i'm not.
her response was that she couldn't help me with that because leaving a cult was a "lifestyle choice".
i tried to say to her that its a cult not a religion and how it brain washed me but no.

No one can understand what JWs and other similar cults are like. She doesn't understand and seems like she's unwilling to understand. Maybe you should see someone who specializes in this or just talk to us here and vent. 😁 -

Our first act of rebellion against the Watchtower.
by The Rebel inone day at art class, we were told we were to draw a naked woman.
i knew as a witness this would be wrong, but i awaited the lesson in anticipation, it would be the first time i had seen a naked woman.
i remember sitting at my esal waiting ten or fifteen minutes for her to appear.

My first act of rebellion was reading all the Harry Potter books. I read the first 3 in 6th grade and then stopped because my conscience aka the Watchtower through talks of the elders in the congregation said i shouldn't. Anyways i absolutely love them and am a bit obsessed!
