i don't think that's a bible teaching, for the following reason:.

1) no verse says that.

Half banana, as to why I'm interested in such discussions, two reasons:

The first is simply curiosity. I like to read and discuss thoughts. I will often discuss the thoughts of other religions I don't believe in, although on this group in particular I'd like to discuss JW doctrine in particular.

The second is that for years I have been indoctrinated. Some JW teachings I'm sure are scriptural. Other JW teachings I'm sure are unscriptural. But recently I've been noticing that many beliefs that I've had for years and that I thought were scriptural, actually weren't. As a fresh apostate I'd like to make sense of the things I've learned :smile: For example, I've learned something from cofty's post above. Although I don't believe in Jehovah, Jesus, or the Bible, I need this. I hope this makes sense :)

background info: although i'm an apostate, i don't hate jehovah's witnesses, or the organization itself.

actually i find that many derogatory comments here are extremely biased.

i think most of them are amazing people, and i wish more non-witnesses were like them.

10% of JW aren't sure God exists? 6% don't believe the Bible is the word of God? 50% don't believe in Heaven? 25% don't even care to pretend they're politically neutral? That poll is weird.

JW claim the sheep and goats are people who are actually alive when the Kingdom comes, and that they're judged based on their past actions. So they wouldn't include the unrighteous who are resurrected during the Millenial Reign.

On a related note, they claim that all the "goats" who die at Armageddon are beyond repentance. This not incompatible with Scripture, but it's not based on Scripture either. I think it's an another attempt to make Jehovah look better than he is.

If anybody disagrees with any point please let me know!

i know it says there may be a slight delay but i've been waiting for more than 12 hours so i'm wondering if there's something wrong with the site, or if i'm missing something..

The Witnesses teach that the "unrighteous" are brought back to life in order to learn about God during the 1000-year reign. I don't think that's a Bible teaching, for the following reason:

1) No verse says that. Acts 24:15 doesn't say why they will be resurrected. Rev 20 doesn't say the "nations" during the Millenial Reign include unrighteous ones. Isaiah 11 doesn't say that the unrighteous will benefit from the increased knowledge during the Millenial.

2) On the other hand, tons of verses that mention the unrighteous say they will be judged if they don't repent.

3) The Bible does say we will be judged for what we do in this world. "For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil" (Ecclesiastes 12:14). "We must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad." (2 Corinthians 5:10). Although I think that's pretty stupid - The JW narrative (of the Kingdom coming to makes thing right again and teaching unrighteous the truth rather than the concept of judgment day for what we've done in the flesh) makes more sense and is more compatible with the concept of a just, loving god. It's just not biblical. I think it's just an attempt to make Jehovah look better than he is.

What do you think? Do you have additional thoughts that go against the scripturalness of this doctrine, or do you think I am missing something and it is actually Scriptural?

Giordano 67% of JW born-ins stop identifying as JW's, interesting, do you have a reference for this?

And thanks for your advice! Yes, I know there's nothing worthwhile in the Bible :) I'm not looking for a "refined truth" here. I mentioned above while I'm asking if you'd like to scroll up.

The Fall Guy, good point about Romans 6.7. Actually I noticed this several years when discussing hellfire with a Protestant. When talking about the "wages for sin is death" thing, he kept saying that "death" meant spiritual death. Gen "you will die", spiritual. Romans 5.12, spiritual death. And Romans 6.7, spiritual death. I told him it obviously wasn't the case, that Adam and Eve did literally die because of their sin, and that we literally die because of inherited sin. However, I wondered about 6.7. When I went back home, I opened Romans 6 to read the context, and noticed what you just said - he's obviously talking about spiritual death.

I like the added value of what you said on the blood of Christ being the basis of forgiveness of sins.

I think the Bible is so incoherent that we need a lot of twisting to try and make sense out of it.
