@Under the Radar
You are likely looking at this from a narrow angle of
Being on welfare should not be a lifestyle choice one can make simply because one does not want to work
If you want to eliminate the welfare state and make people earn what they have.
You will need to remove
- no food stamps,
- no money for those who lost their jobs due to lock down Corvid19.
- no money for big companies during the Corvid19
- no legal loophole for big companies that avoid paying taxes
- no more bailout money for Banks. Only survival of the fittest.
- no more charitable organizations(oxfam, Red Cross, etc) that do not pay taxes
- all disabled adults and children will have to be helped by family or they are on their own.
- If you are injured during War or in some type of accident and you can no longer work, you are F**ked
- all religion must pay taxes no more "free ride"
- no more charitable deduction for taxes purposes.
You already know that welfare state was in response to a major financial crisis
The United States was the only industrialized country that went into the Great Depression of the 1930s with no social insurance policies in place. In 1935 Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal instituted significant social insurance policies. In 1938 Congress passed the Fair Labor Standards Act, limiting the work week to 40 hours and banning child labor for children under 16, over stiff congressional opposition from the low-wage South
The fact that the welfare state is being abused doesn't actually mean that it is inherently bad.
Western society has become one big kindergarten where everybody whines at the slightest offense, wants to sue if someone calls them a name, and thinks the world owes them a living.
Why do you want to go back to an age when you are freely able to "calls them a name"?

@simon interesting video
Here is a quote from the video at minute 2:07
The simple truth about "institutionalized racism" is that it does not exist, not anymore
At least he admitted that once open a time there was something called "institutionalized racism". So it is not all some made up fantasy.
@3:00 minutes
In areas where whites commits a lot of crime, polices shootings of whites are higher and in In areas where blacks commits a lot of crime, polices shootings of blacks are higher.
Good point and that makes sense.
@4:15
The reason that a higher percent of black men are killed by the police is because black men kill the most people.
not enough context was provide but still an interesting statement
@5:18
The welfare state is destroying the black family and creating a lot of fatherless boys and these things that the democrats are doing through policies are causing a lot of poor black men to turn to violence and drugs and that is why black men disproportionately find themselves in altercation with the police.
This is where he lost his mind and lost the argument he was trying to make when debunking the idea of . "institutionalized racism" or "systemic racism".
By citing the welfare state, he just validated the idea of a "systemic"/"institutionalized" problem that tries to disenfranchise the black community. His whole argument that the state is not out to get the black community just fell apart. It doesn't matter if this is initiated by the Dems or the Republican.
He came across as someone who understand the issue at hand but towards the end of his video he lost his way. Just for your information there is a reason why there is a welfare state
The United States was the only industrialized country that went into the Great Depression of the 1930s with no social insurance policies in place. In 1935 Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal instituted significant social insurance policies. In 1938 Congress passed the Fair Labor Standards Act, limiting the work week to 40 hours and banning child labor for children under 16, over stiff congressional opposition from the low-wage South
Something else the video missed is that the welfare state benefits a lot of people and not just blacks alone. Remember when the banks caused an economic crash "sub-prime" circa 2008/2009 and the Dems gave welfare money to help the rich people who broke the economy. They call that welfare check, "bail out" .
A lot of people also got welfare cash during the Corvid.
This is a good analysis of the situation and why "institutionalized racism" or "systemic racism" is such baloney,
Unfortunately the video just proved the contrary

If the narrative is that the police is actively only targeting blacks, then how would you validate that if not by numbers?
"police ACTIVELY ONLY targeting blacks" is not the narrative. The stats should not be used as a dick measuring contest.
Another example, If you were to lose 100k dollars right now and someone throws some stats at you like,
"@redvip2000, stop bitching about losing 100 thousand dollars, Bill Gates lost 1 Million dollars and he is not crying about it."
Will it make you feel better knowing that there is someone out there like Bill Gates who has lost more money than you?

When they are working as a public servant they represent the municipality or federal government and it would be unfair to hold and individual to account for simply doing what they have been commanded to do
Good point, you highlight a problem with the system if police brutality is linked to "doing what they have been commanded to do"
Your question : What exactly and specifically is broken?
As far as I can tell, it seems like it happens in the US but maybe it doesn't have an automatic trigger to make it happen (?)
You have part of the solution, make it automatic/open and by and independent body.
To fix something that is broken you first have to identify what is broken and all we keep hearing is "we need to fix things".
I thought what is broken has already been identified from the get go, Police brutality.
@simon You also identified another thing that is broken
Ultimately, they have a big union with deep pockets and what those union members pay for is legal representation to defend them, so they are defended well (I imagine)
Big Union with deep pockets should be allowed to provide legal defense to their members but open investigation should be done by an independent body.
What else is broken?
Body camera on police should be on at all times when interacting with the public and if case if death, it should be turned over to an independent body for full open investigation.
It is not that difficult to identify what is broken?
A 75 year old man was brutalized in Buffalo. That is another example of what is broken.

The WTS had a lot of issues like most organizations and religion at the time and the did not go against the system as some will like to believe. Here is a reference from back in the day. It is rather enlightening to see how the WTS tried to manage that given the context of the time. You have to live in the context to comprehend WTS's approach. It will be naive to thing that the JW at the time was different that any other organization of the time.
Watchtower 1914 Apr 1 p.105 "WE might have anticipated that many colored people would be deeply interested in THE PHOTO-DRAMA OF CREATION. But it did not impress itself upon us until gradually their number increased to about twenty-five per cent of the whole audience. Of course, we were glad to see them, glad that they were interested in the DRAMA. We had the same feeling respecting them as others; but it was quickly discerned that it was not a case of feeling, but that, whereas the colored people of New York City are about five per cent of the population, in our audiences they are about twenty-five per cent and the number increasing.
What shall we do? As the attendance of the colored people would increase, proportionately the number of the whites would decrease; for explain it how we will, a majority of whites prefer not to intermingle closely with other races. Recognizing that it meant either the success or the failure of the enterprise of the DRAMA as respects the whites, we have been compelled to assign the colored friends to the gallery, which, however, is just as good for seeing and hearing as any other part of The Temple.
Some were offended at this arrangement. We have received numerous letters from the colored friends, some claiming that it is not right to make a difference, others indignantly and bitterly denouncing us as enemies of the colored people. Some, confident that Brother Russell had never sanctioned such a discrimination, told that they believe it would be duty to stand up for equal rights and always to help the oppressed, etc. We were obliged to explain the facts, assuring all of our loving interest in the colored people, and of our desire to do them good, and not injury. We again suggested that if a suitable place could be found in which the DRAMA could be presented for the benefit of the colored people alone, we would be glad to make such arrangements, or to co-operate with any others in doing so. Our explanations were apparently entirely satisfactory to all of the fully consecrated. To these we explained that it is a question of putting either the interests of God's Cause first, or else the interests of the race first. We believed it our duty to put God first and the Truth first - at any cost to others or to ourself! We explained that we thought that all the colored brethren should know our attitude toward them - they should know that we love to serve them in any way possible and to give them the very best we have to give of the Gospel Message; and that it is only a question of whether our giving to them in one way would deprive us of giving the Truth to others. Some who were still tenacious and quarrelsome we merely reminded of our Lord's declaration that in inviting visitors into the house it is the place of the host to say where they shall sit, and then we showed them the parable of the man who chose the chief seat of honor and was given a lower one. In answer to the query as to how our course of conduct squared with the Golden Rule, we replied that it squares exactly. We would wish others to put God first. If our personal interests are or ever have been in conflict with the real and apparently best interests of the Lord's Cause, it is a part of our consecration vow to ignore our interests in favor of the interests of the Lord's Cause. This is what we mean by the declaration that we are dead to self and alive to our God as New Creatures. We reminded one dear sister that the Lord enjoins humility, and assures us that unless we humble ourselves we shall not be exalted. If nature favors the colored brethren and sisters in the exercise of humility it is that much to their advantage, if they are rightly exercised by it. A little while, and our humility will work out for our good. A little while, and those who shall have been faithful to their Covenant of Sacrifice will be granted new bodies, spiritual, beyond the veil, where color and sex distinctions will be no more. A little while, and the Millennial Kingdom will be inaugurated, which will bring Restitution to all mankind - restitution to the perfection of mind and body, feature and color, to the grand original standard, which God declared "very good," and which was lost for a time through sin, but which is soon to be restored by the powerful Kingdom of Messiah. -

Economic Recovery after COVID-19
by Simon init feels like we've really turned a corner, this morning especially.. the covid lockdowns are ending and medical systems were not overwhelmed plus there are existing treatments that have been proven to be effective (like hydroxychloroquine) and new vaccines and medicines in the pipeline.
a week or so ago the dems were dead against opening things up but since they are encouraging protests (which often turn violent) they can't continue that stance - thus proving trumps claim that it will soon be gone.
the majority of the deaths were politician-assisted (which i hope people are prosecuted for) so it's not the big risk we were led to believe and (over) reacted to.. the bls reported this morning that the us economy just added a huge number of jobs (most on record) and will undoubtedly benefit even more from a drive to source local production and supply chains going forwards.

After covid”? Are you saying you believe we have covid behind us and we’ve seen the worst of it?
Simons subject states after as well. You both believe it’s done?
@BourneIdentity, I don't believe it is done. What we are likely seeing is a reprieve (lockdown and general awareness) and with the massive protest going on right now, most people want to talk about something else. There are still close to 900 deaths per day in the US and above 300-400 deaths in the UK.

@simon,
What about what I said about
Should there be an independent open investigation after every death involving the police and should the idea of "Qualified Immunity" be removed from the police?
Will that ease the perception of police brutality?

Now where's that thread on media bias?
