  Don't Want To Be At The RC This Year...

  the whole time i'll just be thinking about what effect all those crazy loyalty videos will have on my family.

  i can venture to guess that they'll be wound up and determined to "stay loyal" because this "is the truth" and "this system can't last much longer".

  i have to go because not doing so would raise too much suspicion but i'm really dreading it.

  We always made an excuse to go to another state.....and then just not go to the assembly. We would just go have fun.

  The thing I always noticed is that people wouldn't talk about specific content for very long after the assembly, a week or two at most. So if you just are on vacation or go AWOL for awhile the chat dies down and no one knows you didn't go.

  Checking on websites like this will give you just enough hint on what went on to have an answer if you really get cornered when you get back.

  Perhaps if you tempt your wife with a real vacation she might just take you up on it.

  Angst and the Jehovah's Witness Mindset

  there is no typical jw personality type.. any of us who were in the religion for a number of years will remember all sorts of individuals.

  there is as much variety among jws as there is in the general population.

  some were arrogant and judgemental but others were humble and kindly.

  I also agree 100%. The JWs are trained to see the bad in everything. Today's talk, I have no idea what the subject was supposed to be, except "everything is baaaaaaad because the bible tells us so. And getting woooooorse. Life is so haaaaaaard. Paradise will arrive right on schedule even if it's after you are dead." It certainly creates and perpetuates a certain mindset.

  When will they start spying on tablets/iPads at meetings?

  following on from a similar post, the use of tablets/ipads at the meetings is a life saver to many a bored or mentally out jw.

  i'm sure the borg must know the potential for surfing the net or reading other books instead of reading the meeting material during the meeting?.

  at what point are they going to start policing this?

  I don't use the wifi at my Mom's hall.....partly because I don't have the password. You have to be special to be issued the password and I'm not about to ask for it. (Is every hall like that?) I download something to read (and of course the WT so I can appear to be following along) and I use my cell for a hotspot for my tablet if I need to.

  If I was ever asked to let someone look at my tablet my response would be "no....oh, HELL no!"

  New Spiritually Weak Label: Not Using Tablet/iPhone

  with last night's meeting it became official: here in the states is a must to keep up with 'jehovah's org' that one fully jumps on board with this tablet/iphone crap.. so, now, all of us that up to this point have refused to follow the wtbts in their electronic/wireless revolution will deal with the browbeating from the 'spiritual' ones.. already receiving lots of grief from hubby and rest of the family/close friends when seen at the meetings with paper publications.

  damn it!!!

  am i alone in this resistance???!!!.

  The approval from above of the ipad is just so wonderful.....such a blessing (***barf***) my Mom has one (can't use it, but anyway it's there for all to see, we're showing off her "means of life") and I load my kindle app with something worthwhile to read. As thedepressedsoul said, it's the only way I get through meeting without blowing my brains out.

  The Law of Unintended Consequences

  the governing body/watchtower unduly influences millions into extreme beliefs and behaviors.

  and i suspect folks like anthony morris thinks his flock is not obedient or strict enough and there are many rules and teachings the governing body would love to enact but do not have the votes, or even they have the sense enough to know it would go too far.

  however, i can’t help how by the time their edicts filter down to the rank and file jw, it causes unintended consequences.

  Keeping people in you really don't want in, because they can play the system and keep from being DF'd, or get reinstated shortly.

  The worst part of that is they really don't even see it.

  Under WT rules, can JW women file for a divorce? Or can only men file?

  the reason i ask is because while watching the "dateline" episode about ralph candelario, the claim was made that only jw men could file for divorce, not women.

  .

  i had never thought about this before.. also, how does this apply in cases where a husband is "apostate" while the wife is faithful to wt?

  I haven't read all the comments but in this case I believe it was because her first husband was not a witness, so it looked better if he filed for the divorce (as in, I can't help it if he divorces me).

  Resolutions at Kingdom Hall

  anyhow i got to thinking today about my days in the borg and the resolutions that would intermittently be made in the announcements for co visit expenses, sending a donation to society www fund etc.

  my point is that while i was in (almost thirty two years) i never once saw anyone put up their hand to vote against a resolution that the body of elders proposed.

  on a couple of occasions i heard a few hushed murmurs but i never saw one person vote against.

  We were in a congregation once years ago (this was before we knew this was to be the new pattern) and the congregation was literally forced to build a new kingdom hall. True their hall was terrible, but the only affordable property on offer by the brothers was in a terrible location. Several people vocally disagreed and asked tough questions (such as are you sure we can get new zoning after we buy the property, a very smart question) but the vote was literally forced. A lot of people voted "yes" even though they thought "no". We'd never seen anything like it.

  That hall is still in a terrible location..... most of the promised improvements, etc. to the area and the road never materialized. People still grumble (when the "loving brothers" can't hear). Some still suspect someone made extra $$$ on that deal.
