I was trying to explain to a couple of elders (shepherding visit) how depressed I felt. One of them said I "deserved a spanking." He meant it as a grandfatherly thing, I think, but it still creeped me out. Since I was old enough to have teen-aged kids at the time, I also felt I had been demeaned and also that it was highly inappropriate due to the nature of what I was telling them. I could tell it made the other elder uncomfortable, but he didn't do anything to stop the other one from lecturing me and making me feel worse. I never did get to tell them what was really bothering me.

Are JWs trying to make dysfunctional kids and destroy their ability to live normal lives?
by C0ntr013r inare jws trying to make dysfunctional kids that wont "fit" in normal society so they will "return to jehovah"?
because there have been many stories about young people who have been out in the world only to find how bad it was and how correct the org was.. a good jw kid with "good" jw parents will have many big issues, some examples:.
fear of demons (fear, misfit).

I know there have probably been a lot of threads on this site already about the children's Caleb & Sophia videos...I went to the website after seeing a YouTube video talking about them and watched some...I was truly disturbed after seeing them. The parents don't use scriptures; they use manipulation and mind control on the kids!!!! So blatant. How people can't see it, I don't understand.
When I was a kid the Paradise book was used. (Those pictures of people being destroyed are forever emblazoned on my brain.) My own kids had the Bible Stories Book and the Great Teacher Book. At least these books taught the Bible to kids, even if the message was slanted. I don't really believe the Bible anymore but since so much of Western Civilization is based on it (Law & Lit, etc) that JW kids had an advantage in learning it so well. If the org. claims that the Bible is what they are following, then they need to be teaching it still.
I always felt afraid growing up. I was a teen when 1975 rolled around. I remember being glad Armageddon didn't come then. Even though I was compliant and a "good" kid, I never felt good enough. I was afraid of all the stuff they said that was coming. It took me decades to open my eyes, but I look back and think about how I was living with all those secret fears. I wonder how many Witnesses have those that they are suppressing.

Press release November 2015- Regain proselytizing among Jehovah's Witnesses, indecency with disgust ...
November 20, 2015 NEWS, Journal
On the occasion of the dramatic events affecting our country, members of the Cafés and all who accompanied them want to share their emotion and show solidarity to the families of victims. They reaffirm their commitment to their side to promote the well live together in peace, self-respect, each other and life.
In these circumstances, they denounce forcefully that seek to take advantage of these events, according to several sources, the American Organization of Jehovah's Witnesses. Who would intensify its proselytizing door to door and metro exits, indicating that these are signs of the end of the world, and only the Jehovah's Witnesses would be saved. "Do not be afraid, but rejoice, lift your head, approach the issue", they say.
The height of indecency would be reached that would, with great apparent zeal to surf the attacks right now to recruit new followers bewildered by these terrible events.
And for driving in another radicalism has long denounced, since what makes them happy and pushes proselytizing is that these dramatic events announce the issuance of this world - in their satanic - in which we today live.
Here reappears as the specter of "selective War (sic!) Of Armageddon" advocated by the American Organization of Jehovah's Witnesses, itself. The one who, having "erased" from the face of the earth and in horrible suffering the enemies of "Jehovah", let alone his followers a paradise on earth.
Faced with this deadly objective, which is not without similarities with those we are experiencing,
Faced with this type of improper proselytism and "trash", which seeks to exploit to the public disgust fear in defiance of national mourning and respect for the victims' families,
YOU MUST CALL FOR GREATER AWARENESS AND CITIZEN ACTION OF GOVERNMENT DETERMINED TO PROTECT ALL radicalism THREATEN THEM.
Here is an example of fanatical preaching
Wanna Exit...looks like you beat me to the punch!

Why Rational People Buy Into Conspiracy Theories?
by adjusted knowledge inmy wife is taking a literature course at a local college.
this was her final topic of the semester: why rational people buy into conspiracy theories?i automatically thought of this site and of jws.
the jws i knew, were the kind of people that would believe in conspiracy theories, and i noticed a small following on this site.. the article that was referenced for this course was: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/05/26/magazine/why-rational-people-buy-into-conspiracy-theories.html?_r=0.

The thing is, when you call someone who believes a conspiracy theory a whack job, or some other negative pejorative, and say they do it to feel superior, I think you could be the pot calling the kettle black and your missing the point.
Is everyone that believes in a conspiracy theory crazy? Is everyone that believes a conspiracy theory totally unreasonable and unwilling to discuss alternate points of view? How many and which ones are reasonable to believe in and what are not? If you say you don't believe in any conspiracy theories, are you being reasonable?
Take for example, 9-11. Obviously the official story is a conspiracy, since it involved people working together and conspiring to do those things. Has the official story been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt? if you say you believe it happened just the way the government says it happened, you do believe in a conspiracy theory...it's just that you believe the official version and are therefore accepted by polite society.
It seems like you could safely say that that the Queen of England is not a blood-thirsty reptilian and that a person that believes the David Icke stuff might need more education or a shot of Haldol, but can you say for total certainty that there have never been any false flag incidents in the history of the U.S.? Or that corporate interests don't influence politics or hide egregious actions? That billionaires don't collude for their own interests? Or that the NSA always has our best interests at heart? That the people in charge always follow the rule of law and put the national interests first?
Going along with the party line all the time could be just as unreasonable sometimes as some of the more crazy theories out there. I think you always need to use your critical thinking skills. All through history, there are plenty of examples of people buying the political propaganda to their detriment.

Of course, growing up being told that all the world's governments and all the religions and the commercial systems are all under the control of Satan and are going to be involved in persecuting you, and everybody but the JWs or Mormons or Sanctified whatevers are also part of the world ruled by the Devil...well that might make a person tend to be a little paranoid, too. -

There was a quiz I took not long ago about finding the hidden picture in the obvious picture and it had you tell what you see first. People who tend to be more literal and pragmatic pick the obvious picture. People who are good at abstract thinking pick the hidden picture.
People want to put down conspiracy theorists as stupid or crazy or whatever. I think conspiracy theorists come in all sorts of intelligence levels and degrees of sanity. I think they are good at matching up small details, gestalts, etc. It is partly genetic, partly environmental.
I also think people that look deeper may have had rough childhoods with one or more parents that had mental problems or substance abuse disorders. They have to become especially attuned to facial expressions, gestures, and their environment, to avoid getting physically or emotionally abused. They grew up believing the world is a very unsafe place and that they need to be aware and vigilant.
People who grew up in stable loving normal environments never needed to develop these traits or abilities. They tend to take things at face value, because they never had a need to do any different.
My two cents.

Silent And Sweet Rebellion Going On Within JW Organization!
by lsw1961 inafter 1975, the vast majority remained as though nothing has happened.
but some left the organization.
however, there arose a third category who did not leave the organization, but brought a new view into their heart: jws are right in their core cause (gods kingdom as the solution to mankinds problems) but may or may not be right in their supplementary teachings, hence are not bothered about changes happening in this unimportant area..
