i recently had a discussion with a jw concerning a change in wording of a scripture - in fact this was my all time favourite scripture, namely, micah 6:8.. my view is that the wtbts have deliberately changed the wording and meaning of the said scripture.

the other person is of the opinion that that is not the case.

i have been rereading a lot about rutherford lately; about his personality and the kind of person he was.

i have come to the conclusion that he was a lot like donald trump.. he was an accused womanizer.. he was a narcissist with a self inflated ego.

I have a cousin who went to Bethel out of high school. He worked up to purchase agent, married a woman from the Philippine Branch office and has been with the cult since. She works taking care of the older unable to take care of themselves GB and higher ups. So I don't know what they do as far as any monies go but they are taken care of, place to live, health care, what ever they need. Its like a dictator, they don't need money because what money buys is given them.

My wife's parents are in very bad shape. They are both 2nd Gen JWs. My father in law worked for a large American manufacturing company in the 60s and early 70s. When it got closes to the 1975 date he quit his job moved north of the state he was in, into the country "where the need was great" and started his own small body /mechanic shop. They struggled to make ends meet. He never saved much money and would tell me he will never die the end bla bla bla. Well he is 80, has a brain tumor, hart condition among other issues. His wife my wife's mother has Alzheimer to the point she has to stay in a facility because he can not take care of her. He has absolutely no money to his name. Maybe a few grand. He has stopped going to assemblies not because of belief but health. I don't say a word to my wife about it as she is going through enough, but they really made their bed.

I am not trying to be obtuse or indifferent but I had talked and talked till I was blue in the face that they needed to focus on the future and saving some money for retirement. He would say there will be no need for retirement in this old world. I am sure many hear have heard this shit before. To me this is where the damage comes in. People who are not as smart as some, buy in whole sale don't think and don't plan. I saw my Grandfather who was a CO SP and elder one of the three at any one time most of his life. He hit 52 and could see things were not working out and took a job as a prison guard, [in shipping and receiving , refused to use a gun but was in contact with prisoners so was eligible for a pension in 10 years of work] and quietly positioned himself for that pension. His last few years they wanted him to qualify with a gun but he kept dodging it. The cult is so damaging its crazy. The very same Grandfather went to two semesters of collage. Played football and wanted to be a coach. But he met my Grandmother who was a JW freak and cest la vie

first of all i just want to say a quick thank you to all of you who’s been listening to my story and my little rants and dilemmas lol.

this website has helped me so much to not feel alone and to keep me from feeling like i’m going crazy.

anyways, i’m defenitly going to try much harder from this point on to play the part until i move out after this summer.

It is impossible to make someone use their critical thinking if they refuse to do so. I worked with a guy who I not only grew up with but we were good friends. We became partners in business. I started to become awake in the 80s and started in the early 90s to say if they change what a "generation" is then I am out. In 95 when the changed the definition of the word,I threw down the watchtower mag and said I am done. I would talk to him about 607 BCE, all the wrong predictions and even had parts of the crisis of conscience I would read to him. The only time he ever walked away was if there was a chance someone would hear. If we were in the van driving to the next job he would talk all day. Once in a Library when the internet was new I looked up Randy Waters site and he walked away looking around. Once I said that the JWs were like the Scientologists to an elder and that elder went off the rails and tried to get to repeat it in front of two elders, then my partner left the business and would not talk to me. I had went too far and he was afraid for his reputation in the cult.

I learned that you can not make someone think. My Grandfather was a CO for years, Special Pioneer for many years and elder for what seemed like ever. He would talk to me in private and admit he knew about 607 for years and that the society was wrong on many points but it was still a good way to live. Many are not in it because they believe but that their social life is built on it.

seems like such an obviously correct decision to overturn the previous overreach - it should never have been necessary to go to the supreme court but happened because the rights of the religious were being ignored.. as the fundamental level, no one should be able to compel you to work for them or to provide services that go against your beliefs, and certainly not have the government be able to force you to comply.. if this was allowed there would be so many unreconcilable situations that would clog up courts over nonsense.. i also have little patience for these activists that intentionally look to be offended.

it really doesn't do their cause any good to go round looking to make trouble for people.

John you are absolutely wrong. The backer did not say he would he would not sell or make a cake for them. He in fact stated he will sell a cake to anyone, but he does not create cakes for every occasion. They could have bought a generic cake and finished it with to guys spanking each other themselfs. But they were looking to force someone to go against their conscience.
