Welcome Inabunker. Glad you joined us and congratulations on your first post on this site.
I know exactly how you feel. My fade has been over a number of years and have been totally inactive for 3 years. It took a lot of courage for me to visit sites such as this one, let alone post comments !

New study - JWs by far the least educated religious group in Canada, Australia and New Zealand
by slimboyfat inthe religion of the educated classes revisited: new religions, the nonreligious, and educational levels - james r. lewis .
the measure lewis uses to compare religious groups is what percentage of members of the respective religions have graduated from college.
the findings are similar to the results of the pew survey in the united states.

This was one of my biggest frustrations; the Org frowning upon its members undertaking higher education.
The number of members who were academically gifted and who could have gone on to highly successful careers literally saw their opportunities vanish before their eyes. The number of families currently trying to eke out a living is soul destroying too.
My marks at school were not good enough to allow me to study at a University however, my father encouraged me to do a trade. I undertook an electro-mechanical engineering trade (4 year indentured apprenticeship) and studied at a technical college. This has enabled me to lead a good lifestyle.

Judicial Committees should have an option to be public
by EndofMysteries inthinking back to how they went from votes by the congregation under russels time to private closed doors in rutherfords time so as to not waste time, etc, of other members.
if it really wasn't to hide things from the org, it would have an option for the person it's against to have it open to the public.
a time announced for any members or the person to bring any they want to attend.

@ Westiebilly11 ... What a travesty of justice. Don't worry; 'they will receive their reward in full'.

Got my JC cancelled... (at least for now)
by Sanchy inso my wife and i have been in the process of fading for a few months now as per my original post here.
about a week ago, i was browsing some ex-jw facebook groups when i saw a post that linked to the crisis of conscience book.
i said "f@(k it" and hit share on it.. a few hours later, i get a long text letter from my mom (who was a fb friend of mine) telling me the typical "good luck finding friends in the world" and how we have "nothing in common anymore"; basically, it was a 'farewell' text.

Sanchy; Whatever decision you make, I sincerely hope it all works out well for you and your family.
I echo stuckinarut2's post above ^^^^^ ... 'The only power they have over you, is that which you allow'.

Describe your witness self, then describe yourself now.
by The Rebel inmy witness self :-very hollow, slightly lofty, characteristically judgemental, overwhelmingly convincing.. my non-witness self:- and in my imperfect way no longer taking the passive attitude to reality, and most importantly no longer feeling an outsider with my " true" friends..

As a witness - suffered with anxiety, stress, always on edge and continuously on the defensive.
Now - I like to think I'm the real me - the genuine article; 'what you see is what you get'.
(Note: It hasn't been easy to get to where I currently am, and after many years it is still a work in progress).

Woman's Purpose
by StopTheTears ini'm probably going to say some things here that will disappoint many.
there are some that may look back over the years and say "man i really blew it" i'm not writing the following to scold for failures, but rather to help those who are young enough to put into practice what god wills for their life, and also to those of us who are in our middle years that still have time to change some things, in order to please god and find a peace that only being in his will can bring.
first let me say that god didn't create man for you.

@ Simon
I rode bikes for about 10 years and it was a blast. I agree that you have more protection in a car than on a bike should you be involved in an accident however, don't let that put you off. If you haven't already done so, then I would encourage you to have a go at riding a bike.

Second in the Medal Table - Well Done TeamGB
by konceptual99 incan't believe it - gb is currently second in the medal table, with more golds and silvers combined than even china.
given the size of the nation it's an incredible achievement and we have won in some sports where other countries typically dominate.
i can't imagine we will stay in second but i am happy to enjoy the moment.. well done to the whole of team gb!.
