Petty Rules
by HereIgo indid your congregation have any petty man made rules?
i remember the elders in my cong didn't like if a single brother and single sister walked in the parking lot together after the meeting ended, to their car.
you couldn't hold the mic or give a talk without a coat (that might be a universal jw rule).

Not strictly 'rules' however, my pet hate was the ridiculous restrictions enforced upon us at witness 'parties'.
At the time us young folk ranged from late teens to early twenties - this was circa early 1980's.
The activities we had to engage in;
1. Sit down, open your bibles and play bible games.
2. Play games that were designed for kids under 10 years old
3. Couldn't play the latest songs on the charts and heaven forbid if it had a beat to it (among other groups, I was into Duran Duran).
4. Don't even think of dancing with a girl otherwise some grumpy old gits and a few 'holier than thou's' would be stumbled
5. There were plenty of others but I think I will stop here .....
PS: ... and some of the Elders and other folk wondered why we stopped attending these 'parties' !!!

Successes you enjoyed since leaving the Org
by Tallon inthought i would start a discussion, and hopefully a positive one, on what successes you’ve enjoyed since leaving the org.. each of us is different as people, in life experiences etc.
however we all share one common factor in that we have all experienced the negativity, to a greater or lesser degree, of being a jw and the org.. each success is worth celebrating so i invite you to share some of your achievements.
it does not matter how ‘big or small’ it is, share it with us.. my achievement means a great deal to me both personally and professionally.

Thank you to all for responding to this discussion.
It's great to see that each of us in our own way have moved forward with our lives and not wasting away whatever years we have left.
The main thing is that whatever successes we've achieved are important to ourselves and give us personal satisfaction.
If anyone else wants to share their successes then please post. We'd like to hear how you've moved forward from the Org.

Do as I say, not as I do
by LoveUniHateExams inand so it has come out that shami chakrabarti sent her son first to a prep school then on to prestigious dulwich college.
both institutions feature entrance exams and fees (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3839975/shami-chakrabarti-embroiled-new-education-row-emerges-sent-son-18-000-prep-school.html).
she joins other people of the left who oppose grammar schools but sent their own sprogs to selective, exclusive schools: polly toynbee, seumus milne, diane abbot and harriet harman.

Do as I say, not as I do - hypocrisy indeed.
Mind you some of these politicians are no different to some of the 'leaders' in the Org.

My achievement means a great deal to me both personally and professionally. Whilst I was in the Org it was always hammered into me about my pursuing a career as meaningless as this system was doomed. Although I attained a certain degree of success in my chosen field, it would be a life of mediocrity and I would never get any further unless I did something about it.
So I completed higher education and went on to attain Chartered Membership of my professional body. At work I am currently mentoring two younger people. They are progressing well and it will be interesting to see where their careers take them in the coming years.

New, but needed to vent- thank you :-)
by Danni Jackson ini discovered your website this morning as i was trying to find some information about 'marking'.
you see a very close friend of mine was 'marked' earlier this week and as i know the ins and outs of the situation (as we are close friends) i disregarded the talk immediately as i know my friend is obviously having issues but is no way a 'danger' to anybody else's spiritual health.
basically they are dating a non-believer- hence the talk.

Hello Danni Jackson
Welcome to the forum. Excellent advice has been given and to be honest I can't think of anything to add.
Just be there for your friend and offer as much support as you can to help him / her through his ordeal.

I’m feeling a bit down and troubled
by Tallon inwhat is getting me down are the difficult and troubling experiences posted by some of the forum users.
in a number of cases i cannot believe the injustice inflicted on the person.
how, forgive the wording, in god’s name can this be happening?

Thanks for your comments folks.
Please don't misunderstand me; I know the reason for forums such as this one. People have been, and are going through really difficult and stressful times with the Org and need help, guidance and support hence the reason they post. I have learnt a lot just by reading the advice given. I too on occasions have tried to offer advice and encouragement through my own comments.
As Wild_Thing suggested, maybe it is good to take a break now and then. Anyway I hope this site continues for many years to come and help as many people as possible to break away from the shackles that is The Org.

Why you might ask?

I’m sorry; but reading some of these discussions is really, in a manner, upsetting.
Am I the only one feeling this way? Hope does one cope with it?

utah jehovah’s witnesses church forced woman to listen to audio of her rape, lawsuit says.
a woman is suing a jehovah's witnesses church in weber county after, she says, one of its instructors repeatedly raped her when she was a minor and the organization's leadership forced her to listen to an audio recording of one of the assaults.. the woman filed the lawsuit wednesday in 2nd district court, accusing the kingdom hall of jehovah's witnesses church in roy — as well as naming the alleged perpetrator, several church leaders and the watchtower bible and tract society (the religion's headquarters located in new york) — of knowingly allowing the "unfit" instructor to rise to a position of authority without warning members of his "dangerous propensities" and past sexual transgressions.. read more: http://www.sltrib.com/news/4465861-155/woman-sues-utah-jehovahs-witnesses-church.

Words fail me. Sickening beyond belief.
I hope the authorities throw the book at this (expletive) and the WTBTS for this crime.
I hope that this woman eventually makes a full recovery from this sickening ordeal.

@ Dubstepped
Halloween ... trick or treat.
I personally know of an experience here in the UK. This individual decided to 'trick' the kids in return.
What this person did was cook some Brussel Sprouts and coated them in chocolate. So when the kids knocked on this person's door, he gave them some sweets and Brussel Sprouts ..... LOL
So why not have a bit of fun too!
