I play an acoustic guitar and can appreciate the musicianship of the societies orchestra, and to be fair they are very good. The level of musicianship is extremely high however, it's a pity that their talents aren't put to better use playing in orchestras where they can be acknowledged and appreciated. It's a shame really.

Does anyone else squirm uncomfortably in disbelief?
by stuckinarut2 inas we know, every month on the "official broadcasting" presentation, a new "music video" is presented.. can these possibly be any more cringe-worthy??.
the words, music, singing are so, so bad....i mean, so bad!.
surely witnesses are not so stupid that they don't harbor secret feelings of awkwardness when they see these?.

Should I talk to elders?
by Chook inthe whole world is rigged, whether its religious tribunals or local police enforcement, those who are paid by god or government are the enforcers .
should you talk to elders... well imagine that brooklyn had ordered these men to df anyone who says anything against the slave.
do you stand a chance , religious zealots are the most ruthless throughout history, look into it , it's scary to think we believed a magazine that we thought came from god .

Using the analogy which The Searcher posted;
If the elders continued to probe one could possibly turn around and say;
" Which part of private & personal don't you understand? "
Admittedly this could be construed as confrontational however, there are times when you have to stand your ground and be damned with the consequences.

Is this the last chance for inactive and df'd ones?
by innerpeace inhi all, just wondering if there's anything going around about the elders receiving instruction from the society to give inactive ones and disfellowshipped ones one last chance to come back?
i ask because i have a still in family member that i received a message from, and urging me to go back.
the elders are apparently saying there is no time left.

to lie or to deceive (w 12/2016, par 18, 19)
by George One Time inwhy not use a biblical example, like jacob when deceiving his father isaac?
jehovah himself seems to have no problem with deceiving.
or 1 kings 22:19-22 "who will deceive ahab?

JW Stand On Concealed Carry
by Cold Steel inif a jw wanted to get a concealed carry permit, would the society have any moral or ethical problems with it?
in other words, if one of your elders noticed you were carrying concealed, would they be apt to just ignore it or would they counsel you on it?

"back in the day people didn't know not to abuse kids"- a jw explanation for their abuse scandal
by purrpurr ina few weeks back i showed the guardian article about the borg refusing to cooperate with the charity commission into child abuse to a fellow jw.
their response was quite amazing.
they told me that in the 50s-80s people didn't know about child abuse, didn't know it was wrong and no one really believed children when they claimed they had been abused - even worldly people.. they said that alot of the time children lie about being abused or therapists plant false memories in their heads and that apostates lie about being abused to undermine our faith.. about the borg not cooperating with the commission they said that it was probably because they wanted to protect the identities of jw's who had been abused.

A typical JW response when the Organisation has been called out - always in denial and always playing the victim. People throughout the ages have known that child abuse is morally wrong.
Good for you purrpurr for telling this individual a few hard hitting truths. Hopefully it will wake this person up.

Beards mentioned again in magazine!
by neat blue dog inaaaaaand .
.. it offers absolutely nothing new.. from questions from readers in the december 2016 study edition watchtower:.

I recall in a number of the societies illustrations that many, if not all of the male biblical characters were depicted having beards. Not to mention the male actors in past biblical dramas at the conventions 'having beards' too.
So, if it was okay for them to have beards in their day, then what is the problem of men today choosing to grow a beard?
