Former Bethelites, please settle this argument
by Resistance is Futile ini was recently talking to a friend that's a former jw, and she argued that there are just as many women that live at bethel as there are men.
admittedly, we're both slightly ignorant on the subject, since neither of us have actually lived at or even visited bethel.
i've made the assumption that there are significantly more men than women at bethel, am i correct?.

Not even close. Its a total sausage fest at the headquarters. I would say 80-90 percent and that is being generous.

An experiment: Open House for Demons
by return of parakeet ini feel cheated that never, not once, as a dub or as a ex-dub, did i experience the presence, manifestation, or just-things-flying-around, of demons.
not so much as a teacup levitating from its saucer.
no inexplicable cold spots.

The biggest debunked "demon" thing is the ole hold em down trick.
There is a perfectly reasonable scientific explanation for it. It can be very scarey and feel real, but it has nothing to do with demons. So if you are one of the people here that thinks they have been held down, please do a little research on that.

Just yelled at my mom today
by trujw insorry to post this but for some reason after a year of not talking i got drunk this morning(yeah i know no lecture) and called my mom and blew up.
i tolded her she was a false prophet and a horriable christian mother who never even came to her grandson's birth by my wife.
my words came out like a river of rage from which i never knew.

Hey man. Reach out to your mother to apologize. You have to be the better person here. No lecture, and no judgement. Only you know what she put you through. But here you are, alive and kicking. She kept you alive and did what she thought was best. Your life maybe would have been better, maybe not. Don't hold onto that anger, and don't make your aging mother bear the brunt of what the GB is responsible for. It would be better for you to call the service desk and go off on them. Your mother is a victim as well.
No judgement. Just try to think it through, and lay off the liquid courage my man.

33 %
by Theredeemer inso, my mother in law who is still active went out in service with the group that had the co visit and came back with some very interesting news.
first off, she knows that we are fading and is ok with it and has some doubts herself.
anyhow, she said that the co went off track during the meeting before service and mentioned how we are now allowed to receive up to 33% of blood in a transfusion.

Nope. This is not official. This young CO is off the reservation. The offical doctrine is still the same. Fractions=Christian to decide, 4 main components and whole blood=repent of you are announced as no longer one of JW's.
This CO probably is reasoning himself out of a tricky situation because he knows its nonsense.
I had a discussion with an elder and was candid with him about my feelings about blood. He told me, "then just don't say anything if you or your family take it. Problem solved."
I told him I hoped one day he would realize how insane that sounded.

Would this work? Be honest. Brutal if necessary.
by okage ini feel i must preface this with context so as to make the intention understandable: .
to jehovah's witnesses and their apologists, that goal is destruction of truth and the downfall of jehovah's witnesses.
but that's not our goal.

This simply wouldn't work. The complex mosaic of peoples lives and intertwined relationships cannot be mass handled in a route of disassociation for the sake of trying to make a radar blip. Nobody outside of some bean counters at Brooklyn would even notice.
On top of that, I am of the personal viewpoint, that unless you need to do so for the sake of your mental health, you should never ALLOW yourself to be kicked out of the religion. You can no longer influence others, there is an extra layer of protection, and you cannot employ the occasional thinking question in someones mind.
Information is the enemy of the branch, not membership of a few hundred disaffected former JW's.

Is it odd that I just find it so hard to believe that random elders come here to seek out people in their congregations on a whim? I mean, I don't think most elders even know of this place. I don't believe its ever been mentioned in BOE letters.
In order for someone to be here and "out" someone, they would have to have been given a heads up from someone.

I dont know guys. They certainly were not real JW's. For all the faults, I think any JW would be as sickened by this as we are. It also doesn't pass the smell test with the phrase below. I am pretty sure JW's were thrown into this one without deserving it.
"Mother explained to me that every woman killed or raped by me would become my wives in the afterlife."

If you drink coffee . . .

I like a good french press. Its a nice balance and you can throw in some cinnamon or something. You can also make nice loose tea in a french press. Mate is really good for you.
I need to get off coffee and energy drinks again, and go back to tea.

Scholarship
by Band on the Run ini have trouble understanding why people mock scholarship.
if i mention it frequently, it is precisely b/c as a witness, i had no access to it.
when i was told someone by a brother, there was no way to evaluate it.

Lois lane makes an interesting point. I felt pretty smart at one time. The vast majority of people are not interested in "scholarship" and tend to kind of just want the redux. I am not sure many people here look down on scholarship. However, refferencing yourself as a scholar hardly makes you smarter than a bag of hammers. Many people digest information and turn it into viewpoints and believing things for good reasons. Many others swallow information whole, don't digest it, and just parakeet it back to others with little challenge because they are speaking ona level most people don't relate to.
I can understand in any community that going against the status quo can be a loosing battle before the objections or information are even heard. It can be a "closed community" where an actual line of reasoning has little to do with the subject, but how many learned people share the same viewpoint. I don't care for that very much. I prefer each arguement or thought stand on its own, and those interested can come to their own conclusions. To decide what they believe and do not believe based on good reasons.
I am not sure what the New Yorker and Vanity Fair have to do with scholarship. :)
