Does anyone know the story in basic detail? I am sure I won't be reading the book. Couldn't stomach it.

A "follow up" meeting?!?!
by DATA-DOG inwell, now they want a follow up visit!
when you tell the elders that you have doubts and they say " its okay, we have had our doubts.
having doubts is not apostasy.

OEJ could be on to something. alot of it will depend on these particular guys.
You can use the words than engender a certain reaction as well. Be vague. "Waiting on Jehovah" is a great thing. Making sure "you don't go against your Christian conscience" is another. "Making sure of all things" is a good one.
These are all buzz phrases that will make them think you are not a threat.
An EX-JW that served in almost every capacity once told me something that stuck with me.
Jehovahs Witnesses shoot their wounded.

One eyed Joes comment regarding that TED talk is spot on. Focus is spot on in that you should fear NOTHING. TTATTelder is spot on about what the situation behind the scenes is.
Honestly, once you have the first meeting, you make subsaquent meetings even harder to get out of. Now if you refuse, it might make it worse. The cool one, will turn as fast as anyone else. Be assured of that.
I like DOC's recommendation to say you are content to wait on jehovah, but you may need to do it in person. Then just don't show up to meetings anymore.
For Gods sake stop telling these guys how you feel man!

New "Caleb and Sofia" video on JW.ORG....you have to see it!
by stuckinarut2 inok, so i dont want to be a negative bitter person...and we all love little kids, but i am just so torn about the new video just uploaded on jw.org.
if you havent watched it yet, have a look at it...."an animated series that touches hearts".
(yes, its well done...and they certainly like to do a lot of boasting about their technical skills etc...).

Hey I know some JW's on Maui! :)
Yeah the video can be summed up with two seeming inocuous statements mae at the beginning and end.
Caleb says at the beginning......"It all starts with the governing body!"
Little kids say at the end....."Thank you jehovah for the videos. Thank you jehovah for Caleb!"

So many lost stories on this board. This is amazing!
The ease at which we have been taught to forego life. I mean even the 13 year old immediately told them "no blood".
This is the single most important reason i left the organization when my son was born. I refused to tell him he would need to sacrifice him to a God that cared so much about technicalities, and so little about life.

Dilemma
by Gorbatchov ingorby and his lovely wife had during dinner a chat about watchtower hypocrisy.
she faded with me since 2007 and shows sometimes affection for the organization.. we talked about the gb and ray franz.. she asked me if she could read my ray franz books.. now i have a dilemma.
the books gave me a hard time in the '90.. i know the ray franz truth can hurt and shock her so much.

Shes been away for a while now. I think she will take it better than you realize. Did you read those books after having faded for 6-7 years.....or did you read them to START your fade of 6-7 years. Big difference.
I say you give them to her, and let her be.

BBC Radio 4 reference to 607 Babylonian conquest?
by 88JM inwas listening to bbc radio 4 late sunday night, and in a programme about migration, they referenced the "babylonian conquest of jerusalem in 607 b.c.
" which caught my attention.. did they not mean 587 b.c., or did i understand it wrong?.
the link to the programme is below - sorry if you're not in the u.k. as you probably won't be able to listen to bbc programmes.

Wow....just wow.
I am curious as to their explanation. I wonder if it would be appropriate to mention in the letter to them, that they are using a date that is unsupported archeologically, biblically, and that only Jehovahs Witnesses have attached any importance to this date, in order to support their unique doctrines.

What to say to the Sheparding Call
by Jon Preston inok i need some quick advice.
the elders have contacted my wife about a sheparding call, not me (is that weird?).
anyways she directed them to text or call me.

Jon didn't you just duck something like this?
I think this will be the final one. If I was you I would return the text with a call. Hear me out here. People that text things like that, tend to be uncomfortable when someone calls back, so you already kind of have the upper hand.
If that doesn't sound like you....then just respond by text very simply like this or something like it.
"Hey there ____. You are always welcome to come over and have a (beer, coffee, enema, whatever), but as far as a more formal visit, I think we would decline. Thanks though!"
Keep it short, don't ask questions. Asking if there is something wrong or anything like that, still defers to them. You are a grown up and can just say no thank you.

The last step
by Borges init is now almost six years since i left the witnesses.
many things have happened in the meantime.
in the beginning, right after i found out that i had been raised in a cult and all the fairytales ive been told for so many years were just this- fairytales, i had the strong urge to do something.

Nice post Borges. While I don't feel JW's are harmless as a result of the blood doctrine, and shunning enforcement, i recognize the greater point you are trying to make.
I have a good friend who also left a while before I did, and he always talks about a couple people who left with the phrase "they should have just stayed JW's, they were happier, they were better people, and they couldn't self regulate without it!". He was right. Now wether that is because they were malnurished human beings not taught to think for themselves is another conversation, but in the end, they made choices like we all do.
Ultimately, we all are responsible for our own decisions. To only look externally is fruitless. To take responsability is to free yourself of that vestiges of what once did exert influence over you.
Good for you my man.

Christian persecution
by Clambake inthe other day i am in the hall and they are doing the whole christian persecution thing.
lets not forget about brothers in eritrea and south korea.
then someone said these people prove we are the true religion.

Well young man its very simple. TRUE christians are persecuted, wheras FALSE christians do not enjoy Jehovahs protection and remain in spiritual darkness, therfore it is reasonable to conclude that they are victims of Satans world, walking about in darness until their end.
Aren't we happified that we are in such a modern day spiritual paradise!
