can anyone name a religeon that is the correct one?.
my personal criteria would be: shouldnt celebrate holidays/ only study the bible, not publications with someones personal ideas/ people won't worry about dressing in exactly a particular manner, welcoming others personal thoughts on the interpretation of scripture even if it differs from others/ not demand money for membership.. any religeons like this?

where do i start.
my wife is a "closet alcoholic".
i found out a month ago that she was lying to me since the day we met, almost 7 years ago.

What a terrible situation. I hope you can convince your wife to get some help, but if you can't - there is an organization, I think it's called Al-Anon - that helps family members of alcoholics deal with the problem. They would probably be the best place to start to get help for yourself and your children on how to deal with this. I don't have any experience in this area personally, but I've seen it happen to others and all I can say is, don't give up yet, if you can reach your wife, she will thank you in the end for helping her, but don't forget to take all the steps necessary to protect yourself and your children both legally and financially in the mean time.

fort worth a judge on friday raised bond to $250,000 for a nurse's aide charged with murder after a homeless man she hit died in her garage with his body lodged in her car's windshield.. chante j. mallard, 25, had been released on $10,000 bail after she was arrested wednesday.
but at a bond hearing friday, prosecutors said that amount was too low.. state district judge james r. wilson raised the amount and said ms. mallard must be under house arrest, wear an electronic monitor, continue counseling, avoid alcohol and undergo drug testing.
the judge also imposed a gag order in the case.. ms. mallard was charged with murder this week in the slaying of gregory glenn biggs, 37, a former fort worth school bus driver whose body was found dumped last october at cobb park on fort worth's south side.. "it truly is one of the most bizarre things i have ever seen," said fort worth police lt. david burgess, a supervisor in the traffic division.
The sad part is now she will get some slick lawyer who will argue that she's the victim of: [take your pick] the drugs, the system, an abusive childhood, post traumatic stress, toxic shock, bad hair and she'll end up with six months in jail during which time she will sue the penal system because she doesn't have enough chips in her chocolate chip cookies. And the taxpauers will foot the bill.

I read this story in the paper - it's absolutely chilling. There's a candidate for the death penalty if ever there was one. If I hadn't read it I would never have beleived it. It sounds like the plot of a Stephen King novel - Christine meets Misery.

my husband answered it, and a nice elderly man said something in philipino to us, holding a watchtower and awake.
my husband said we only spoke english, and the old man smiled, said something and left.

I would just like to reply this... The bible reads that we should, as Chrisitians, witness to our brothers, and all good Christians do.
The Bible says a lot of things - among them that God is jealous and vengeful, that the truly faithful should happily sacrifice their children and their families to follow him, it gives advice on how to treat your slaves and your prisoners of war and my personal favorite, you should not wear a garment made of two different materials.
Spirituality can be fed in many different ways and not everyone thinks the Bible is one of those ways.

It's a beautiful Saturday here in NJ and guess what! A whole family of JWs just pulled up across the street. They were turned away at two of my neighbors' houses and I [being the sneaky little Pagan that I am] let my big barkin' dog out to stand next to the sign on my fence that says "Beware of the DOG."
Worked like a charm! Only two houses and they packed up and pulled away. Maybe the two little kids who were with them will get to go play now rather than being dragged from house to house all day wasting their youth. I can only hope.

I have to say it's very crafty of them to glom onto something so tragic and use it to their own purposes. If you think about it, considering that tens of thousands of people worked in and visited those buidlings every day, statistically there would have to be quite a few people who: lost their jobs days or weeks before the attack, scheduled a vacation around that time, called in sick, over slept, had scheduled personal days, had meetings cancelled or for some other convoluted reason were not there on that fateful day when with a simple twist of fate they might have been. How do the JWs explain how all those OTHER people were spared and what explanation do they give to the grieving families of those who were not?

what really turned me off the jw religion was the way they portray god as an elitist.
their god was one where if you did what the watchtower told you to he'll bless you with everlasting life on a lush green planet with summer all year round surrounded by fit looking people who wear pearly white smiles 24/7 picking ripened fruit from a tree just out the front door.
and if you did wrong, he'll come after you and pelt you will flaming rocks the size of golf balls and football fields.
I think the JW view of God [as well as other fundamentalist groups] appeals to the basic idea that there is a right and wrong side and all you have to do to be on the 'right' side is follow a set of rules. This gives people a sense of self-righteousness, a blueprint for behavior that will assure them an eternal reward and removes them from the responsibility of making their own decisions. It also separates them from those who are different and assures them they won't be sharing paradise with anyone they don't like. It alleviates the hardship of having to be tolerant of those they don't agree with and gives them a sense of superiority. While it may seem impossible to a lot of people to live this way, on some level it's actually easier than having to create your own personal moral code and live by it.
