It's funny how the word "Truth" has been used and abused so much. Usually those who shout it the loudest or claim to have it are the ones to be most wary of. I couldn't help a sardonic chuckle when I saw a certain flamboyant politician start a social platform called Truth Social.

The Next Big Thing In WT World
by NotFormer inthings got a bit lively after the agm leaks in october.
there was a lot of discussion going on on this board for a few months.
now that all the leaks have been more or less confirmed as policy, and we've had lively discussions at length concerning the changes, things seem to have slowed down here.. a few suggestions have been raised as to what might be the next changes, such as women being allowed to wear slacks (in the usa, anyway), decoupling from 1914 as an anchoring date and others.. so, what changes do you think will be announced this year?.

Murder JW Style (True Crime)
by Tahoe ina home remodeling job in england that went wildly wrong:.
a builder who bludgeoned his client to death with a hammer in a row over her new extension has been jailed for at least 15 years for murder.. peter norgrove killed sharon gordon at her home on 20 july last year.. her daughter rhian brown said norgrove acted like a "wolf in sheep's clothing" after earning her trust at the church they attended in dudley.. wolverhampton crown court heard he led the jehovah's witness service the same night he killed mrs gordon.. he repeatedly lied to her about the work he was doing, which took 15 months instead of six weeks.. .
"he didn't have the experience to be doing the work he was doing," miss brown said.. "he took full payment for the extension in advance, which we believe to be more than £30,000.".

A tragedy indeed, and did the pressure of losing face in the congregation contribute to his mental instability? He obviously held a position of authority as he had a role in the Thursday evening meeting, but another account states it was a peripheral role, leading the zoom part of the meeting for those who were attending remotely. Would that be given to a Ministerial Servant, if they still have such roles?

NotFormer, there was funny sh#t going down, now that I can look back on it from a far distance. Been out now about 30 years so that's far enough away to find things funny now. I want to start writing about it, capture the tragedy but humour as well.

There's another thread idea, stories about starting your service time. How creative were you in your prime? Make a quick call near the KH and then drive an hour into the country for your next, ha, ha.

For the Disillusioned
by no-zombie ina problem for all who come to realize that our faith is just another manmade religion, is that we start questioning everything we've previously believed.
where ultimately its possible to spiral down past believing in the bible, to the point of questioning god's actual existence.however while some may be happy to think of themselves now as atheists or agnostics (which i doubt that most really are, as living with the full mental and emotional consequences of being one is a lot harder than most understand), i don't think it is necessary to abandon being a spiritual person.
while others might like the idea of drifting into a modern animistic philosophy (which rather conveniently excludes personal accountability), the keeping of the core teachings of jesus has historically proven to give many people a balanced and practical moral code to live by.but what is meant by the term: 'the core teachings of jesus'?interestingly many thinkers from the enlightenment period of the late 1700s, had similar a question.

My thinking is I don't like labels, christian, atheist, boxes to put people in, I don't think it's accurate and it's limiting. Also I don't think binary thinking is accurate, it's either option A or option B doesn't work for me.
Our knowledge of our existence is so paltry, so full of unanswered questions, how can we be so certain about anything?
Jesus said a lot of good things, I think many people will agree on that. Probably the most useful part of the bible, some of the proverbs worth reading as well.
Regardless if we believe in a creation story or an evolution story, there's more to one's actions than just personal survival, there's survival of community, survival of species, these have to be factored in.
For me now, enlightenment comes from reading about the quantum world, quantum entanglement what a strange concept. The new theories on consciousness, we don't even understand how our consciousness is produced, except it's associated in some way with our physical brain.
I think the older I get, the less I'm certain about and since faith is the certainty of things unseen, I don't have it, but if I wanted the unseen and hoped for to be real to me, then I would acquire it. I think a life view with faith is a lot simpler and less complicated, and a lot of people like that.

Thanks Phizzy, yes Irish roots, mother born there but I wasn't raised there. I'll jump into some convos if something looks interesting.

Careful, yes joined up yesterday. Thought I'd start documenting "my history" so being a JW was a big part of that, 33 years I figure, not including the inevitable slow falling out period. First step was to reawaken some memories and connect with a community that was talking about such things.

NotFormer, can't say I did much thinking about the big picture in those days, we were basically taught to keep your head down, don't question things and be a good soldier... Onward Christian Soldier type of mentality.
TXNVSue2023 I don't know about firsts, nothing new under the sun sort of thing, reading about the International Bible Students in 1918 during the Spanish Influenza when WWI was shutting down, now that was a tough time.
My thoughts now is that it's a corporation adapting to new circumstances in order to survive. So it's adopting new technology, easing up on some its peripheral policies while trying to remain consistent to its core beliefs. Bottom line is about survival in a rapidly changing environment.

Did a brief read through the 'Beliefs Clarified' didn't see too much earth shattering. I guess it's the daily culture aspects, cart witnessing I saw mentioned on another post, I see that where I live. Back in my day you had to go door to door and earn the ridicule, none of this sitting in deck chairs beside a cart... soft, lol.
Apparently beards are more accepted, no more monthly reports I read, using technology more. Any congregation chatter on king of the north/south, Putin, Trump, surely there's coffee time chatter going on, ha, ha.
Are they still discouraging higher education? Maybe that will be a change area, need more lawyers as time goes on. Create a special serving class for professional women, the Abigail class, part of the governing body. Heard it here first ;)

Signed up on a whim but it would be cool to see the changes documented over the years. I haven't been involved since the 90s but it was a large part of my youth and my married and parenting years so thought I'd drop in to see what it's all about now. I understand they have video streaming so obviously they're embracing technology. Picked up a rock that had a QR code underneath directed to a JW resource, so technology plus getting creative. It would be interesting to see a table that documented the changes over the years to get an old timer caught up! Anyone have anything?
