i joined about 5 days ago and have some observations/questions.. does anyone notice the profile update doesn't seem to work?

i like reading some of the profiles, most accounts don't have them and maybe that's because the tool doesn't function anymore?.

also i've been noticing a diverse number of subjects which made me think of the categories of people on here.

PioneerSchmioneer Yup you nailed it.

I suppose there's so many different experiences here, mine was the 8 year old wondering where the xmas tree was this year and having to lie about the toys received at school rather than explain the long story. The walk of shame every morning when the national anthem was played as your dad had gone to school to explain the new faith to school administrators. I sometimes forget not everyone here went through that. Even at 70 those memories remain, and that's part of the damage that the JW org inflicts.

PioneerSchmioneer, yes I didn't go through grief upon leaving either but looking back I would say I was in denial when I was in, when I left there was a period of euphoria where I did all the things that I couldn't when in. Over the next 30 years after I would say there was some anger when reflecting on the things that happened. I see a lot of anger on here, so some are experiencing that. The bargaining would be along the lines of, if I wasn't raised as a witness what different choices would I have made, would my children have had different opportunities. The depression is more a sadness when reflecting on some of the memories and the time wasted. The acceptance is along the lines, it is what it is, the anger and sadness replaced by acceptance.

I didn't realize there was an existing vernacular although I had seen some mention of them in posts. I can see how it would work well for those currently in or recently departed. I'm not sure if there's a subset that indicates how long a person has been out for which I was trying to capture, sort of a timeline from In to Long Gone. It struck me that it matched up well with the 5 stages of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. Each stage takes time to work through.

jan 30 (reuters) - a russian court has sentenced four jehovah's witnesses to seven years each in prison after finding them guilty of coordinating extremist activities, according to a spokesman for the religious group.. .

This seems a religion vs religion situation, the Orthodox Church feeling threatened. Banning rarely works as it just makes martyrs of the attacked party. The ultimate goal in society should be to remove religious extremism through education.

Also I've been noticing a diverse number of subjects which made me think of the categories of people on here. Here's my draft of categories, I'd be interested to read others thoughts.

JWin - those who are still in the organization and come here out of curiousity or to discuss doctrine, etc.

JWinout - those who are transitioning out of the organization but haven't made a firm decision. A lot of dissatisfaction with the org as they battle to convince themselves it's the right move.

JWout - Have made the decision and are out of the organization but just recently, it's still raw. A lot of anger towards towards the organization.

JWlg - Long gone (lg), some acceptance of what was can't be changed, less anger but maybe some sadness and introspection.

JWno - never was a JW but maybe a spouse or friend who was curious about the mindset

Then there are subcategories, the JWwt (Wild Thing), somewhere between JWout and JWlg where you want to taste all the things you missed and go "wild" checking off all the boxes... lol.

things got a bit lively after the agm leaks in october.

there was a lot of discussion going on on this board for a few months.

now that all the leaks have been more or less confirmed as policy, and we've had lively discussions at length concerning the changes, things seem to have slowed down here.. a few suggestions have been raised as to what might be the next changes, such as women being allowed to wear slacks (in the usa, anyway), decoupling from 1914 as an anchoring date and others.. so, what changes do you think will be announced this year?.

It's funny how the word "Truth" has been used and abused so much. Usually those who shout it the loudest or claim to have it are the ones to be most wary of. I couldn't help a sardonic chuckle when I saw a certain flamboyant politician start a social platform called Truth Social.

a builder who bludgeoned his client to death with a hammer in a row over her new extension has been jailed for at least 15 years for murder.. peter norgrove killed sharon gordon at her home on 20 july last year.. her daughter rhian brown said norgrove acted like a "wolf in sheep's clothing" after earning her trust at the church they attended in dudley.. wolverhampton crown court heard he led the jehovah's witness service the same night he killed mrs gordon.. he repeatedly lied to her about the work he was doing, which took 15 months instead of six weeks.. .

"he didn't have the experience to be doing the work he was doing," miss brown said.. "he took full payment for the extension in advance, which we believe to be more than £30,000.".

A tragedy indeed, and did the pressure of losing face in the congregation contribute to his mental instability? He obviously held a position of authority as he had a role in the Thursday evening meeting, but another account states it was a peripheral role, leading the zoom part of the meeting for those who were attending remotely. Would that be given to a Ministerial Servant, if they still have such roles?

NotFormer, there was funny sh#t going down, now that I can look back on it from a far distance. Been out now about 30 years so that's far enough away to find things funny now. I want to start writing about it, capture the tragedy but humour as well.
