Witnet Admin Resigns
by Pathofthorns inmy hats off to the witnet administration team.
it is very sad to see them go, as the last few months have been quite interesting.
of course, those who follow the board know that in recent weeks there have been quite a few problems surfacing.. its obvious many of these individuals had concerns much like we have here.

They Came back
by Theophilus inhowdy.
after an unfortunate absence i have returned.
ina previous thread, i shared that i had initially begun my research into jw doctrine and such after being approached (some would say accosted) by a pair of well meaning jw's one saturday morning.

No, I don't think it's a loosing battle. You may not see any immediate effect but things that you say and make them aware of can make them think and change possibly in the future.
This happened to me - somone pointed a few things out about the WT teachings that I didn't know about and just gave me a few WT references to lookup. I rubbished it at first but when I realised it was true it made me question other things too.
Don't give up! -

Who's decision is it to want 'heaven'
by Simon injust a thought.... the 144,000 with the heavenly hope were sealed in 1935 (ok, they don't push the idea openly but it's still the party line).. everyone else has an earthly hope.. just because you have a heavenly hope doesn't mean that you can't 'fall away'.
why, look at that 'no good' ray franz.... so, someone has to take their place.. now, does god make someone want a heavenly hope or does he pick someone who wanted to have a heavenly hope but was going to be disappointed.. who's choice is it...do individuals have free will over what they want.

It just seems that the idea of 'free will' which seems to be so important in other teachings is suddenly abandoned and it's OK.
Of couse the other thing with the 144,000 is that over 250,000 christians were killed by the Romans...so...most of those mustn't have been genuine if there are still some places to be filled.

So, someone has to take their place.

Reflections
by Frenchy inim starting a new thread because its time i left the bergman discussion.
i would like to address some comments made by ahhah, however, comments which have given me reason to look deep into myself.. even then, i wonder how objective a person could ever be after having had part of their life taken from them by a cult association.
on the other hand, who else (other than an ex-jw) would ever care enough to work as tirelessly as he seems to have in attempting to document the potential harm of this religion (biased as it may be).

What is it about ex-JW’s that make them so angry? I’ve seen ex-Baptists, ex-Catholics, and even one ex-Presbyterian. None of them had the anger that I see among ex-JW’s. What is the motivation of all this anger? Is it as is stated above, to “document the potential harm of this religion”? Is that truly the concern of those who have left? Why is it that even once the admission is made that the organization is false to its claims that dissidents continue to lash out at it? Why is it so hard to walk away from it if we know that it is false?
I think one of the reasons is that the organisation won't let you walk away - they come after you! It is almost impossible to just disagree and leave and the way they want to 'protect the flock' by stopping anyone having any association with you means that the leaver feels they are being attacked because the society is trying to turn friends and family against them.
Because it is quite an intense religion, often people don't have any/many friends and family outside of 'the truth' unlike some of these other groups and this makes that the society does all the more important and, in my opinion, worth fighting over.
There is also the massive feeling of being cheated and of having part of your life wasted - some other groups don't demand the commitment that many JWs put in (unless you become a monk or nun I guess). -

The WatchTower/Bible Students have been predicting that Armageddon is really close for over 150 years...
Sounds a bit lame really when you put it like that.
I think it's a bit like when you're stood at a bus stop in the rain...the bus hasn't arrived. What do you do? Wait in the rain - it may not be coming at all. Leave? What if it arrives just after you left.
It's hard to walk away but imagine spending your life stood waiting in the rain for a bus that isn't coming. -

"Must You Believe It?" - Dec. 1st Wt ...
by tfs in*****posted by "venice" from h2o*****.
would you believe it if someone told you that the december 1, 2000 issue of the watchtower gives its readers permission to reject the published conclusions of the organization if these should in any way contradict god, ignore his word, and violate common sense?
you decide.

I think they are trying to promote the idea that even if someone can PROOVE from the bible that the WatchTower is wrong, you still mustn't believe them - it is really a trick.
