Do You Tip At Eateries?

if you go to a restaurant, do you tip and typically how much?

if you were given a 90 minute time frame to eat at a restaurant, would that restriction limit your tipping to the waitress or waiter?.

also if you order a coffee and donut and pick it up, do you contribute to the “tip jar” that’s on the counter?

Tipping was never as big of a thing in the UK. Part of that is that I don't think people generally eat out as much.

Sorry, but not tipping because they are not handing out menus which is a good idea right now? That sounds like an excuse to justify it to yourself.

Likewise, waiting outside - these are often rules mandated on restaurants or the view that people don't want to see tightly packed groups of people. Punishing the wait staff for it is petty and low and again it sounds like an excuse more than a legitimate reason.

You should tip more now because wait staff are facing extra challenges, often having to wear masks and wipe things down more thoroughly and more often and the volume of visitors is often less - fewer covers means fewer people who potentially tip, so make up for those people who chose to be assholes.

There are a few places we visit a lot more than others (favourite pub and kebab shop) and often have a good chat with the owners or the wait staff to the point that we all know names and about each others lives and family and they know our usual orders or want feedback on new menu items.

I'll normally tip 20-30% at those places depending on how much I'm spending in total. It doesn't have to be somewhere we frequent, I tip the same wherever the service has been good.

I'm way more inclined to tip at an independent store than a fast-food chain but thinking about it, I am more likely to also tip at somewhere like Subway, but can't remember tipping at McDonalds - I guess it's that the former has more of a "personally made" aspect to it rather than just buying a product? For the same reason you don't tip the cashier at Walmart ...

I also tip food delivery drivers well, because it feels like they do more work to deliver your food and especially if it is miserable and cold out. We also tip at the bottle recycling because I wouldn't want to do that job and I doubt they get paid a lot.

Right now, there are a lot of people hurting and people's jobs in restaurants can disappear in a flash with the lockdowns, so if you're doing OK and have a good income I think you have a duty not to be stingy.

if you are actually following it, not just listening to the media, you will likely realize that there is a huge gap between what is going on in court and what is being reported in the media.. if the trial was fair, i think he should be acquitted.

there is plenty of reasonable doubt about the cause of death (his dealer doesn't want to testify because he could be guilty of 3rd degree murder for selling him a fatal amount of fentanyl) and even doubt over whether the officer even had his knee on the guys neck or did anything counter to what they were meant to do as per policy.. but is it fair?

The long enduring pressure against Floyd's neck by police officer Chauvin was the cause of him blacking out and eventually dying.

What you're saying is "if the media representations were accurate, then ..."

Which is why there is an actual trial, not a "trial by media" which the very phrase's existence is an admission that the media version is likely unfair and inaccurate.

As I said right at the start - if you are going off the media reports of the trial you are seeing a completely different trial than if you follow it yourself and you're likely going to be surprised with the outcome as a result.

if coke disturbed you because of a certain stance would you stop buying coke?

would you stop watching a sport if a certain view was politicized?.

would you boycott a certain product because you did not agree with the corporation’s opinions?

I chose where to spend my dollars based on the company or the artists involved.

If they do good (which right now can just mean "leave people alone, give them freedom") I'll be more inclined to buy from them.

If they are hypocritical assholes who have put a woke activist in charge of their social media account, I won't.

You do realize that at a trial you will always have two sets of people, one saying that black is white and the other swearing that white is black.

That's how the argumentative justice system works. The judge & jury's job is to assess who is likely telling the truth based on who's testimony fits the known facts.

That they have a paid "expert" willing to say something is immaterial and the chief of police likely doesn't want the finger pointing at him if they were following the procedures he set.

And thirdly, should breaking the law, being an addict or passing off fake notes (because you are an addict) be deserving of a death sentence?!

Ah, this classic cherry.

No one is ever saying that any particular crime, even just shop-lifting, is "deserving of a death sentence" just because someone ends up dying. A cop could chase someone and they die of a heart attack, it doesn't mean they were "executed for their crime".

The bible is a poor standard of morality? Well that answer is in the where or who were you taught from or by? The bible has lots of examples of morality. Both good and bad. Good teachers are essential.

Yes. Just because the bible contains some no-brainers doesn't make it inspired or negate all the crap that you conveniently gloss over. The bible allows slavery. Humans decided it was immoral. Therefore humans have better morals than 'god'.

People who haven't had any religious upbringing can know right and wrong. In fact, studies show that babies as young as a few months can make judgements on whether someone is mean or kind to others.

The hate and barbarism is taught and usually comes from the religious superstitious fantasy books.

Secondly, an addict usually knows his limits. He would be unlikely to swallow an amount he knew would be lethal - arrested or not (it’s not worth dying over) - and having three times the “lethal” dose for a NON user is not necessarily going to have the same effect on an addict. Habituation raises the level at which a drug will cause harm to a person.

You seem to imagine that illegal drugs are produced with as much care as legal drugs. If what you say were true we wouldn't see a huge spike in overdose deaths from fentanyl.

We're not dealing with a smart person here.

Here's another thought experiment:

You can either have someone kneel on your shoulder for a few minutes.

OR

You can be given a dose of fentanyl 3x over the lethal limit.

Which would you chose? Which one would be more likely to kill you?

The fentanyl is reasonable doubt that he wasn't killed by the cop but was killed by the dealer who should be charged with murder.

If George Floyd had complied with police and got in the car, he might still be alive today.

I think he'd likely still be dead. If not that afternoon, some other.
