i was a twenty y/old when i converted to the jw religion and was a problem drinker and i was a chain smoker .when i was baptized at a circuit assembly a year later , my conversion and change in lifestyle was given as an example of the effectiveness of incidental witnessing to the audience.. so i can point to the 2 positives becoming a jw .. 1.i gave up smoking.
2.i gave up drinking for a while ,but because i still had association with my wife`s and my family who were not jw`s ,i learnt to control my social drinking when i started again.. and i have been a responsible drinker ever since ,even though i left the religion 29 years ago.. the negative points of being a jw in my 32 years of being one ?

Why can't schools be secured? It kind of mirrors the border and bathrooms issue - just why can't we stop people who shouldn't be some place from being in that place?
There are a disproportionate number of attacks in public schools than private schools. Why is that? Is it because of the generally poor standards at government run institutions? Prevalence of bullying, poor attainment, poor discipline?
Jewish schools have security, because they are under higher threat, and they have fewer mass shooting attacks as a result. It can be done.
Don't tell me they don't have money as they can print and piss it away on anything else they want, especially wars.

Also, like most problems in society, I expect there will be a direct link to teachers unions.
But we all know that the "problem" presented depends on the perp. If it was a white guy, it would be all "white supremacy!!!" but it sounds like he's hispanic so it's "gun control!!!!"

here in the uk we've recently had the price cap on household energy bills raised by around £800 and there'll be another similar raise this autumn.. food prices are up, petrol is around £1.82 per litre - that's $10.37 per gallon for our american friends - and inflation is currently running at 9%.
business are being hit as ordinary folk prioritise their spending.
young folks are effectively priced out of the housing market and wage rises are not keeping pace.. mrs nic' and i are fortunate in that we're both in secure employment and with the kids moved out and mortgage paid off our outgoings are thankfully low.
There's also the preparation.
if you want people to have stocks of water for when there is a hurricane, they need to be recompensed for the storage and upfront outlay.
While it may sound noble to say "no price gouging" all it really guarantees is that there will be no water available.
Oh, and some huge government agency out of business.
so the marvel multiverse ... it's a bit of a mess.. there is another multi-verse move though that's worth checking out.
michelle yeoh is brilliant and kind of half plays herself (you'll understand when you see it) and so is key huy quan who is the now grown-up actor who played the little chinese kid in the indiana jones movies.. it's funny, it's moving, i've seen it twice and, well, i still can't really describe what it's about or fully understand it.. the description used while it was in production was that it's "the story of a woman struggling to do her taxes".
which is technically accurate, i guess.

The number of shootings has skyrocketed in the last year or so.
People are economically stressed, they are fed a constant diet of hatred and resentment and they feel they have no future.
Things are not even as bad yet as they are going to be.

Personally, we're OK - everyone in the house is working, mostly remotely from home, so costs are down. We renewed our mortgage a couple of years ago at 1.7% and should be able to pay it off before it renews again. We also switched to fixed-price energy plans and now it's summer we won't use much gas for heating. That's the insidious part of all this - a lot of the costs now are carbon taxes and then sales-taxes on top of that (so your bill still goes up even if you use less and the prices don't rise). This is to supposedly dissuade use, but that isn't an option when it's -30 degrees ... and some people will be making the choice of whether they keep warm or they eat.
We try to support local restaurants and stores as much as we can. But the fabric of society is definitely being impacted by this. You can feel it.
