To put it mildly. What I see is him blowing a huge opportunity to come across as the voice of reason and even elicit sympathy.

Yeah, it's a tough act to pretend you've been heinously wronged but are then innocent and it's of no concern when you do the same thing to someone else. It was an open net, an easy goal, and he hoofed it wide.

The reason there wasn’t a Magnificent 8 with Jake included was due to a mutual follower of both parties interceding in favour of Jake. Lloyd was already paying more than he wished for the litigation anyway and he didn’t take much convincing to drop one to save money.

I wasn't aware of the 8-to-7 thing which in itself again undermines the whole claim - if you don't feel quite so "wronged" just because one patreon subscriber (?) liked the other guy too, it's then hard to argue that you have been quite so wronged by the other people.

Honestly, all these Patreon and GoFundMe type things just seem to be a cancer. I'm sure there are communities and creators where they work as intended, but it all just seems to be so scammy and open to people who will game them.

If you are keen to "do more", to be "an activist" ... be aware that while the vast majority of people are nice but some people are utter scum. There are nutty psychos about, in general online and it seems especially in the exJW community. People are unbalanced, obsessive, and want to retaliate if you slight them in some way or they will just take exception if someone else is a "success" in some way.

I've come across them over the years and I don't really get too involved with exJWs as a result. The idea that we can only limit our association with a certain group is the ultimate JW mindset hangover.

This is partly why I think people wallowing in exJWism and making it their life are certainly not helping themselves and probably not really helping other people who leave and then get hooked on exJWism.

Rather than making "leaving the JWs" into a big accomplishment, why don't we make it what it really is - something that anyone can do, fairly easily, so they can move on with your life. Yes, there may be some family ties impacted but that happens to the rest of society, just for different reasons. It's not the worse cult ever, stop pretending it is. The WTS are not the 3rd Reich, stop pretending they are.

Just leave, show that you can be normal and that it's no big deal.

I think the thing that was “determined to be a lie” in the clip was the specific comment by Jake that he wasn’t “going to make jokes about Lloyd Evans” because he did make jokes about him and it was itself intended as a joke.

This is what he does, he uses a fine toothed comb to find one single line that he can label as "false" and then uses that to label everything as a lie. It's a very childish and unconvincing strategy, but he's had success with it when combined with his bullying people away so his lies are then unchallenged.

If I said I'm not going to make a joke, then tell 101 factual things about Lloyd's life and include a joke while doing it, then I have technically "lied" ... but unfortunately for Lloyd, the lie isn't about him - it's simply a comedy mistruth (often the basis of comedy) told to the audience of the video, about the video, but not a falsehood about the subject of the video.

Lloyd Evens has nothing to complain about. He remains a failed JW, failed exJW and failed husband who regularly visited prostitutes for at least 4 years.

As for YouTubers and any other "activist": don't create heroes. Appreciate the work people do, but don't treat anyone as a role model. It doesn't help anyone who may fail when given undue attention and adulation. I also don't think it really helps people to "support their activist" to any undue degree. I've always believed that what helps others to leave is demonstrating that you can leave and be normal, happy, and relatively well-adjusted (or no worse than the general populace) and then eventually continuing on your journey.

Also, someone can be an expert on a subject but utterly fail themselves on that very same subject. I saw the case of someone who was educating about personal finances, and everything they said was good advice and made sense ... but they were personally failing and were deep in massive debt.

Don't create heroes, become your own hero for yourself and you family.

Or, we could stop sending the RNLI to rescue them, and JUST LET THEM DROWN. Not nice, but it would discourage more from doing it.

Probably one of those things where it would ultimately end up saving more lives in total.

He's always been an abusive cheater and always will be an abusive cheater, because people never really change their true selves.

Even in his book you see him putting the blame on his wife, as though it really is her failure that caused him to do what he was already doing before ever meeting her ... being a grubby little selfish toad of a man.

I was thoroughly shocked that she won this case.

She didn't - the initial win was only a paltry amount and then it was overturned.

She can't really claim it harmed her, as her case brings far more publicity to the matter, like Streisand.

But back to the witnesses - let's not forget the effect it has on them. Does it really help them or reinforce the notion that apostates are "prowling around", deceptively trying to fool them?

He's the perfect caricature of an apostate, living down to the expectations the WTS setup.

It doesn't help the JWs, it's not showing any care or compassion towards them. The only person it helps is him, for clicks and views, via the people who want a constant diet of "WTS bad" and can't see the difference between the organization and individual members.

Sad followers of a sick fool.

I don't know about the UK, in the US you can record (or film) anything you want in a public place. There is NO expectation of privacy when you're in public.

I think the UK was the same, most places are - you can't have any expectation of privacy when you're in public. If you did, the paparazzi / tabloid newspaper industry of photographing celebs would be sued to oblivion.

But that doesn't mean filming someone with the sole purpose of embarrassing them or presenting them in a bad light, especially if it's done by selective editing and inclusion of clips to present a false impression, is morally justified.

i.e. if you interview 10 JWs and 7 can't explain their beliefs, that's a story. If you interview 10 and only 1 can't but you play only that clip (and don't bother to find out if they are maybe a new convert) then you're a dishonest lying piece of shit.

Lies by omission is common for those pushing a specific agenda vs actually fairly reporting on reality.

I think the whole grooming/CSA allegations are a pointless rabbit hole to go down right now. Even if you could prove the emails are real (as in an actual email) it doesn't mean anything

Unless you can prove that the email existed, that he was definitely the person in control of the email address and that the messages were definitely posted, then it's impossible to prove they are legit.

All you might be able to prove from the screenshots themselves is whether they were definitely faked, such as if the font used wasn't released until a later date. And just because they might use a valid font for the dates, doesn't mean that is evidence that they are real. i.e. you can likely only prove the negative from the images themselves.

Even though the messages appear to fit with other known facts such as his wife finding out about him "texting girls", and would explain the still bizarre "I'm not going to record the judicial meeting because I have nothing to hide" claim, that would still just be circumstantial at best.

But we do know he uses prostitutes in countries with CSA / trafficking problems, which is why the accusations are useful to him as a way to label all claims as false and vindictive lies.

It doesn't need to be true for the rest of his behavior to be despicable.
