Reluctantapostate.co is owned by Paragon Names out of Berkshire. It’s a registrar, so unless Paragon Names is him, I am not sure he even owns it anymore. He hasn’t used the reluctant apostate website in some time.

Most registrars offer forms of private registration, so the registrar is listed without exposing your personal information. They are not really the owner per-se.

Like the .com version - it looks like someone snapped it up but "who knows" who it could possibly be? Probably not Evans as it's through a different registrar. I'm guessing it's someone who doesn't need to bleach their hair or spend money on hookers to "cope" with life, so has the spare $17, or, erm, whatever a .com domain name actually costs, to splash out on it purely for shits and giggles.

Using a phrase Lloyd Evans himself could be pictured saying ... "where do you want me to point it?" (my wife came up with that Viz-esque Finnbarr-Saunders "fnar-fnar" and demanded that I give her credit).

What kind of fool promotes a site that only has a web-template hosted on it? Probably hoping someone will do all the work of building it for him (for free, of course).

i haven't a clue if it's technically feasible but i think if you're going to hit the dislike button on a post you should be open to discussion with the poster.. just your own topics and posts of course.

It's a tough one as there are good arguments both for and against it.

The original intent was to put people off from making meaningless short posts, just to say "something" (like "me too") and to allow people to voice or vent their agreement or displeasure about something without sticking their head above a parapet. It also helped to avoid some unpleasantries by allowing people to just put a thumbs-down without having to actually post, which I think helps avoid arguments continuing (at least a little).

It also helps show that just because someone may post something obnoxious, it doesn't mean that we as a community endorse the sentiment if there are a ton of negative votes.

But ...

Some people clearly misuse it and you see in the patterns that they go on a binge of up or downvoting everything certain people's posts, clearly doing so based on the person and not the content of the post (when they are innocuous). If the person doing this was visible, they may do it less. Of course the downside is you then get into arguments on why someone gave you whatever reaction.

Overall I think I'd favor having the voter be publicly visible, similar to facebook, but with a few more options:

Love / Like / Dislike / Angry

Laugh / Cry / Hug / Puzzled, maybe more (ideas?)

And of course:

Told-you-So Smug Grin (like your wife gives you when you finally have to admit she was right and you were wrong)

Every exJW becomes less and less of an expert on all things JW the longer they are out.

All your knowledge and experience becomes just a snapshot in time, and you rely on the same news filtering out as everyone else does.

The irony is that an exJW like Lloyd needs a newly-exited JW way more than the other way round. They have the fresh knowledge on the state of the WTS. Why any seek answers from him is anyone's guess ... but they increasingly don't.

Yeah, the WTS is never going to disappear. They got large enough to be self-sustaining and even a major scandal would just see individuals removed. The Org itself isn't going anywhere.

What the people who crave its demise miss is that it's there because it fills a niche and is exactly what a certain segment of the population wants. Even if it did collapse, something else almost exactly identical would fill the void it left.

Some take stating this fact to mean "OMG, you support the WTS!" but those people simply think in black and white and lack the ability to understand any nuance.

The people who push the "we will take down the WTS!" are usually people like Lloyd who are trying to solicit funds to achieve their impossible goal. "Honest, if you donate to my kickstarter my perpetual motion machine may one day become a reality!" No, it won't, it's a waste of money.

To them, the far more sensible and achievable goal of pushing for reform and fairer treatment of people won't appeal to the hardline nuts who want to throw money at it and need the constant injection of anti-WTS rhetoric to keep the money flowing. It's hard to switch to "let's fix this thing" when your entire message has been "it needs to be destroyed and it will be".

As for his "sensing" that there may be a change in the WTS leadership ... well, no-shit Sherlock - the fact that they removed people and appointed new people is pretty obvious that the leadership is changing. It always has, it always will, because people age.

There is rarely anything new from the WTS. You could sum up changes in the last decade in a minute or less. It's same old every time.

Who the hell wants to watch a convention, let alone a repeat with some wanker explaining how silly it all is. Really, do people need to hear that so much that they think it's of any value?!

the above verse is often quoted by jws both in general as a response to the idea of a deathless paradise and/or those promoting vegetarianism or veganism.. a letter in animal frontiers co-signed by nearly a thousand scientists is now warning that meat is crucial for a healthy lifestyle and livestock farming is too important to 'become the victim of zealotry'.. they stated the fact that most humans require the nutrients from eggs, meat and dairy and that plant based alternatives are at least 4x more expensive (which implies much higher energy consumption in the process) and not scalable and outright dangerous to global health to support a large population shift towards them.. they also called out several recent papers for misleading information and even called for the outright retraction of one that said meat substitutions are a viable alternative.. not sure what the modern jw view on this is, i know many people in the borg promoted it back in the day.

just goes to show that science does not support the notion of a global vegan diet..

Either animals were "perfectly designed" or they "learned to eat meat from humans" (even more laughable). The idea that they would intentionally starve to death when they could eat vegetation, is crazy. The idea that they evolved so dramatically in a few thousand years is equally incompatible with the bible.

Like most things biblical, it makes little sense beyond being a fable or parable.

Yes. It's the people who don't want to actually discuss anything. Someone makes a point? They post the same copy-past diatribe. Someone asks them a question? Same copy-paste. Every. Time.

It's always drivel. No original thought. Nothing of interest. Just the religious equivalent of "I'm a Nigerian prince who wants to give you $50m ..."

first 2 posts were ok but third refuses to post.

is there a limit or something on how may posts you can do a day?

Posts are throttled to protect that site from spammers and people asking where their posts are ...

The more you post, the longer they take to appear. Be patient and do what the instructions tell you.

When you keep posting "where's my post" posts, I delete them and then you have to wait longer.
