A dub I know says that the society have informed all congregations to ALWAYS go STRAIGHT to the police, and that this policy has been in place for a while.
Anyone know anything about this?

i approached jws i know with the simple question "so i suppose people are talking about panorama?".
the response is generally one with no surprise, no fear, basically no problem at all!

It just shows the lengths the JWs will go to to defend their Watchtower Borg.

The response is generally one with no surprise, no fear, basically no problem at all! They've been told en masse or the news has spread like wildfire, at least in this area.
I may be wrong, but there has been no letter read in JW congs in the UK has there?
Unfortunately, they're primed with the responses:
* those interviewed are likely apostates or born-agains trying to make JWs look bad
* there will be very few cases cited and no real proof
* the society have had guidelines in place for a long time telling the elders to go straight to the police, so if elders are guilty, it must have happened years ago
* the problem is with local elders, not the society. local elders should have contacted the society for advise and didn't. Its a local problem, not a global one.
Most JWs I know are going to watch it. They are smugly thinking that no evidence will be shown. I really, really hope that panorama have done a good job and that the truth is revealed! One thing is for sure, there will be a big audience.

Hi Outlaw,
I could be wrong, but what I've read about the moon indicates that it affects tides but not land masses (at least not land masses to the degree you stated). I think that Elsewhere's comment about perigree and apogee are correct in that at perigree the moon is closer to us and therefore exerts a stronger influence on the planet. The light of the moon does not affect the oceans/land masses - its gravity that affects us most. At new and full moons the earth, moon and sun are aligned in varying positions which influence tides etc. E.g. when the moon, earth and sun are in a straight line the suns gravitational pull adds to the moon's gravitational pull and therefore there is a stronger influence on us.
I am one of the criticised group of people who think the moon does affect us on an individual level. Of course, there are lots of people who state that the moon has no influence on us. However, it is known that many land and sea creatures respond to the moon's position / phase and that water in a small pond is influenced by the moon. I just think that the gravitational forces must excert some change to the human body since we are mostly water. There are some theories relating to the effects of lunar light. We know that the sun's light has a direct effect on us psychologically and it stands to reason that the light of the sun reflected off the moon may also have an effect. Light going into the eye through a closed eyelid has been shown to affect hormone release in the pineal gland.
However it seems there is a lack of evidence to support the influence of the moon on us individually. Some studies can be cited but they are fewer (it appears) than those that do not show a correlation. I think that studies involving perigree and apogee moons should be considered more than those on the moons phases.

they don't save for a rainy day, don't plan for retirement, don't get higher education, alot are overweight, thinking why bother, don't worry about their health, etc.
and, have you notice, they almost try to get people to have low self esteem?

Melissa you made some good points. I agree about their lack of planning. Its horrible to see so many witnesses not buying houses and not having pensions, just because they think armageddon will be here before they're 65!

Melissa said she was fat when she was in, you don't even know if she is fat now. Plus, we don't all have to have 6% bodyfat (and tell people about it to make ourselves sound good). Now before you decide to slag me off, I'm not overweight at all. We don't all have to be sticks you know...some weight on us is healthy anyway.
M made some good points about birthdays, etc. aswell.

I'm new on the net, and really enjoy it. I've met lots of brothers on this cyberassembly but I've got some troubles in my own congregation. A sister laughs at me and accusses me of using the Internet to get porn. And she has even told this to the elders wifes and the circuitoverseers wife. Now I'm considered bad company even if I'm a regular publisher and never questioned the Societys teachings.
I don't want to defend myself towards these sisters and brothers, because I don't want to cause division in the congregation.
I'm the only on the net in my congregation and I have nobody I can discuss this. Can you give me some good suggests or advises?

I think this problem can be solved easily, by following theocratical guidelines. (Hebr. 10:24, 25. 1. Kor. 14:33, 34) Isn't there just one sensible elder in your congregation? I suggest you to invite an elder to your home to see how the net works and how interesting from a theocratical point of wiev. Show him some of the brothers homepages or pages on his hobbies. You can show him Shubert Kerseys list on most of the witness pages on the net. And that even Watchtower Society has their own homepage.
I also suggest you to show him that it isn't that easy to get porn from the net. Worldly magazines blow the problem of porn on the net out of proportion just to sell magazines, but a person with discernment can use the internet and never come across a pornographic image, and God-fearing parents can install simple software that keeps kids from being tempted to try. I've met brothers all around the world through the internet. It can be a valuable tool for upbuilding association if used wisely. Just as TV can be a useful tool, or a threat to one's spirituallity. It all comes down to how a person uses it.I think he will recognize how usefull the Net might be, in theocratical purposes. Then he will surely be able to tell his co-elders, that you are not in spiritual danger or a danger to others in Jehovah's earthly organization.
