Yes, you are right about it being ineffective as far as the world is concerned. I find that it is extremely effective for me personally. Not so much "supernatural" but getting in tune with the natural to enhance your life.
The archetypes provide a good basis to analyse yourself and your life. Working magick is accepted by those knowledgeable to be mostly working on yourself. Better people make a better world, too.
Of course, being pagan or whatever is not NECESSARY to be a good person, or to know yourself. Some people just find it suits them, thats all.
It must be admitted that there are energies in this world that we cannot see but nevertheless they affect us. E.g. Electricity. Thats just one that we've managed to scientifically test. It is a possibility that other energies exist that we haven't been able to measure yet. Those into paranormal may be touching it but not able to really know what its all about. Maybe in a hundred years we'll have figured it out. Scientists propose theories of a 5th dimension. It is claimed that monitoring at the aura of a plant can tell you if it is healthy or not, and this has been used to predict if crops are doing well. Its OK to be skeptical, but we need to allow a little part of us to be open minded. Maybe science has not answered all the questions yet? Not that long ago people would have thought you mad if you'd described electricity.

Gumby,
Yes, its more significant if more than one person experiences it. Then you've got the situation where everyone who moves into a particular house experiences the same phenomena (although it hasn't been discused with previous residents). One case I heard of was a house built over an old roman road. The new tenants reported that whilst watching TV one night the image of a roman soldier walked through their room, but they could only see him from the thighs up. They *later* found out about the roman road under their house.

You have a point that sometimes I think it can be put down to hallucinations or simply misunderstanding of whats happening. E.g. lights flickering might just be your electrics! however, as in the case above where a couple are calmly sitting in their lounge...why would both of them suddenly have an hallucination?
I study psychology and I am aware of sleep states that can induce hallucinations, etc. however, just because we can prove that such brain states exist, that does not prove that the supernatural doesnt exist. Plus, there are differences between hallucinations and delusions experienced by Schizophrenics in comparison to "normal" people. Yes, you could say that "normal" people only experience it occasionally, but it isn't that, there is more to it.
In my experience, I have once been told a message by a ghost and weeks later this message's meaning came to light. By "coincidence" the person that the message was for had to come and stay with us for the funeral and I only found out the message was for them AFTER I told them of my strange spooky experience. There was physical evidence too....I'd been told that a gift had not been given and it was the desire of the lady who had passed that the gift be given to the person. She showed me that it was high up in her house, and sure enough it was found in the attic - gift wrapped.

Very Interesting, Jan!
I like this article a lot. In psychology, excess dopamine is part of a theory of why schizophrenics lose grip on reality.
I am a believer in the paranormal....and if thats due to high dopamine levels then fine! It doesn't change anything really about my beliefs. E.g. I realise that sometimes in meditation I induce a hypnotic state. Things experienced in this state can be said to be "fabrications" but I choose to see it that whatever I experience has come from my own capacity and I'm amazed at what the human brain can do! We all have deity in us, in my opinion.

Dia - an investigation would be good because it would put the JW under heat it had never felt before here in the UK. They could TRY and lie but it would be revealed!
My JW mom asked me why I had a letter with "House of Commons" on the envelope!! I just said it was private...but I get the feeling she will try to delve deeper. Thats a definate DFing offense to write to local government!
