Elders refuse to Testify
by The Scotsman incame across this article - .
.
the case goes to court today i think.. you will notice that the org + the local elders are only interested in protecting confidentiality and are refusing to testify.. the rights of the victims are lower on the priority scale.. makes me shudder.

Loubelle,
There is new light which says that new people can "become" anointed.
That is how the numbers could rise.

Sounds like a very selfish guy. Keep in mind, it is all made up. There are no "annointed." So when you look at it that way, what a creep. Just support your sister through this.
I don't agree that he is selfish.
Some people who are JWs have a very strong feeling that they have a heavenly hope, but they suppress those feelings because they are told they can't have! So now that the JWs have said that the anointed number is not sealed, some individuals will finally be able to say that they really feel they're going to heaven.
I'm not sure how much the partakers figures will rise this year because many JWs are oblivious to the new light.

My life - A brief history. Part 1
by Galileo inthis post has gotten quite long so i decided to break it up into at least two sections.
i hope it doesnt come across as rambling.
i should start with a confession: it was my smurf that walked out of the kingdom hall in the early 80's.

That was a good read. Thanks.
You will find that there are quite a number of Ex JWs who are highly intelligent and who also missed out on college. I'm a member of mensa (not proof of that much, I admit, lol)
I totally understand your frustration at having not been supported during your education.

Only because it intensifies things, Tatiana.
Also it depends how much you drink. If you drink daily and a lot, it can contribute to worsening your depression. Also if you are taking anti-depressants, the alcohol stops them working as efficiently.

As others have said - self harming is a reaction to extreme mental torture. Someone who hasn't had those types of intense feelings just cannot understand. Unfortunately, some individuals can't seem to empathise and therefore they react badly to someone who self harms - probably from fear (to see such behaviour is to shatter one's illusions to some extent).
I see self harming and alcoholism in a similar way. Both are self harming. As Crumpet said though, alcohol can make cutting more likely so its a horrid cycle to get into.
The shame of having self harmed just perpetuates low self esteem. Low self esteem means that you don't care so much about hurting your body.
One thing I will say is that some people are afraid to admit what goes on in their life for fear of judgements from others so we never really know how many people around us are suffering in the extreme.
From my own standpoint, the number of harming incidents I have had can be counted on one hand (thank Goddess!) but I chose another route to harming that appeared more socially acceptable (only to find it was not). Nowadays I'm not doing those behaviours but depression is a constant battle and I deeply fear ever being in the same state of mind again.
I didn't mean to say so much, but what the hell.

I really liked that!
Particularly:
‘So Jesus of Nazareth, Moses, Mohammed…’
‘hmmm… sadly misguided I’m afraid. Anyone capable of communicating with their own cells will dimly perceive me – and all other life as being connected in a strictly quantum sense, but interpreting that vision as representing something supernatural and requiring obeisance is somewhat wide of the mark. And their followers are all a bit too obsessive and religious for my liking. It's no fun being worshipped once you stop being an adolescent teenager.
Having said that, it's not at all unusual for developing species to go through that phase. Until they begin to grasp how much they too can shape their small corner of the universe, they are in understandable awe of an individual dimly but correctly perceived to be responsible for the creation of the whole of that universe.
Eventually, if they are to have any hope of attaining level two, they must grow out of it and begin to accept their own power and potential. It's very akin to a child’s relationship with its parents. The awe and worship must disappear before the child can become an adult. Respect is not so bad as long as it's not overdone. And I certainly respect all those species who make it that far. It’s a hard slog. I know. I've been there.’
