Civilization is the process of setting man free from men.
Well, that's certainly part of it. But no, it's not "the" process.

What if everybody took it upon themselves to THINK? Where would that leave the church?
Nice thought. But again, completely irrelevant to a discussion about Ayn Rand. After all, many people say she started a cult. In the strictest sense they may be wrong about that (though many would argue the same about our claims that the WT is a cult), but they say it for a reason. That reason is not that her followers, yourself included, are particularly good at thinking for themselves.

"She liked smoke filled rooms where ideas fought one another and where sometimes ideas died"
Ah, that explains everything; her ideas are all zombies.

This may be the collectivists' psychological confession, but it is not an image of man. If it were, we would never have risen from the cave.
It's funny because it's so demonstrably, scientifically, wrong.
It's also funny to see people who passionately reject the governing body, not one single member of which rises to the level of evil on their worst day* that Rand carried on her best day, acting as cheerleaders for this foul broken ego driven human time bomb.
*Ok, maybe Freddie. On his worst day.

Being able to think for yourself and question authority would have kept all of us out of Jehovah's Witnesses.
This is true, but irrelevant to the discussion at hand.
first off, if you are in a safe place inside your head, merry christmas.
i was fortunate to have had childhood christmases in my home growing up.
many born-ins are probably never going to know what they missed.. also.... i am thinking about all the nice, friendly, happy things i've given up for jehovah and it saddens me.
I'll second that. Cheers Terry
To anyone reading who felt the above in their gut - I just want you to know that any pain leaving the "organization" has caused me (and it does cause me some pain, almost everyday) has been WAY overshadowed by the feeling of joy and sheer righteous freedom that comes from simply thinking for myself, and then acting in accordance with what I believe to be the best course, rather than what 13 or so mostly unknown-to-me dudes living a cloistered life in Brooklyn NY tell me I should believe and do.
Real life is worth it.
the company i work for is having a xmas party today... as im fading since only 6 months ago, i dont want to have elders behind me, i wonder if i should go ... there are 3 witnesses in the same company ....
yes
Weren't the bone collections of his family found recently?
No. There is no known family of Jesus.

bangalore.
.
Cheney would invade Iraq, again, knowing what we now know, if he could go back in time. This pretty much invalidates his opinions, IMHO.
That says it as well as it can be said, my friend.
I do remember watching Mythbusters where they were trying to dis/prove that dogs recognize people by smell. The 2 guys switched clothes and made themselves look like each other. The 1 guy's own dog ran to the other guy.
I know the 4 or 5 dogs in my life will bark like crazy if a stranger walks up to the door or is on the other side of a solid fence, but they are just there to greet me silently.
