i see there has already been discussion over lloyd’s new book how to leave the jehovah's witnesses.

this includes discussion around his personality, motives and financial gains.

i have written a foreword for this book, because it is an important topic that has not been covered in such a complete format before.

I did not want to make this thread about money, but discussions over financial motives regularly pops up, and they are an ad hominem attack that are not accurate and should not have any relevance to the effectiveness of the work being achieved.

I'm not "attacking him"...why do you think that is the case?

The point is all these threads exist because he is releasing a new book...he has to because he needs to generate income...it is a factor as to why he does...maybe not the biggest factor but one still the less.

Mentioning that a full time activist has to generate income to fund his "career" is not "attacking"...it is simply pointing out the fact as to why he has to release new content...because it is his income.

Paul...I'm disappointed in you...you are the author of a non-bias, neutral, amazingly resourceful website yet you you seem very defensive in this subject...the fact is you are not neutral when it comes to Lloyd...you have appeared in a recent video interview and now a foreword in his book..and now you post active threads about it on here.

This is not the neutral sensible Paul that we know.

Whether you like it or not Lloyd has many people in the exjw community who have issues with him due to previous dealings, personality, egocentrc behaviour etc.

As I've said the mature approach is to see the past the man and look at the content and either enjoy or dismiss without overly attacking the man.

I enjoy some of his content, I ignore others...I give my opinion when asked such as threads like these which I have a right to do but still I will promote good content even if the man presenting it has fundamental flaws.

But you recent overly need to defend this is rather disappointing.

Why did you think there was a need to create this thread?

Not every point made is an "attack"...when someone puts themselves forward in any light you are always going to get constructive criticism and just plain criticism...deal with it...as Lloyd does.

For the record I like most of Lloyds content, I point others to it, I have told Lloyd that his self-confessed mental issues (depression) that he suffers means his work and what he has had to put up with makes what he has done amazing...and I applaud that.

Yet he has made mistakes and has an attitude in some areas that do not help his cause and make people turn off him.

But even so...enjoy the content...forget the man.

Paul...I simply mentioned the amount he makes in Paetron...YouTube...book sales and other incomes is not "far less" than making money via translation.

If it is then translation is megabucks.

To say "far less" is not factual...that is all I mentioned...I agree with most what you say but disagree that he is making "far less" based on what is publically available for all to see the potential earnings he makes from his activism.

Hence why he needs to churn out content including a new book to keep the income coming...not a bad thing as I say but it is a factor in why he releases content...which is the topic of this thread.

I'm surprised at your comments...check the facts about how much he is earning..it is not less than a full time average paid job.

Lloyd is earning far less from his JW activism than he could working full time in his business as a translator.

Really? Just from Paetron and YouTube he will be earning thousands per month...add his book into it etc along with no doubt sponsers and I know he has said in the past he gets financial backing from some people I doubt that is "far less" than working as a translator.

If it is then I'm in the wrong business.

The thing is it is not really wrong because he needs to fund his full time activism but it will mean continuing to churn out books and videos just to keep your income going...like his new book.

If someone’s devoting the bulk of their usual “working life” to JW activism, all power to them in making enough money to support his wife and daughter. Those who criticise him probably have their own sources of income and good for them.
I couldn’t do what Lloyd had done - but I admire his tenacity and confidence. He’s made a few cringeworthy missteps along the way. Yes, he could have been more straight up in his failings and said, “Sorry, I really mucked up there and made a bad call. I’m genuinely trying to rectify my bad judgement.” But he didn’t. I criticised him for that. But honestly, all these years later, I can let bygones be bygones. I don’t need to like him but I can appreciate the work he is doing.

As I said on other threads I have my own opinions but do not let them color my approach to Lloyd's work...I can see past the people and actually concentrate on the content.

And that is what matters really.

i do enjoy his rebuttals and the stuff he manages to get hold of and leak.

but i'm struggling to understand what he could possibly write to merit a whole book.. all info on how to leave is right here on this forum.

@steve2 fair enough...that is a nice post you have put there.

I was not raised a JW, I became on at 20 and left at 36 and it took me no time at all to "leave" in all ways from the JW way of thinking and life because for the first 20 years I was "normal". :)

I may be a bit strong with comments above and that may not be fair to the man...but then I don't know him, all I can go by is what I see, what I read and any personal dealings I have had. The fact is anyone who puts themselves out there has to expect that some will like or not like what they do, how they do etc...that is life and the internet.

But Cedars, for all my opinions about him, is still achieving good with most of his work...I see past the man and look at his content and enjoy.

I think that is the most important thing.

I have a YouTube channel and do certain things on it, not related at all to JW's or activism and people are the same with me...some like me what I do how I do it etc and some do not...that is ok...if they don't want to see the content they don't watch it...if they do then great....it is no skin off my nose if they don't like it.

I'm always interested when other people "know" someone's motive. I take it Lloyd hasn't ever said that's his motive - but one that's been imputed to him by someone else? Where have we heard that before? Ah yes! In JW organization where people habitually talk about other's motives and proceed as if a judgement is a fact..
We come from a background in which elders "knew" what our motives were and judged us accordingly - despite our offering assurances that we were not out to cause trouble.
Of course, I cannot say for sure that Lloyd's intentions are not to be the number one apostate and to make a living out of it. But then, who's motives in life are ever entirely pure? My view is if you have gifts or strengths in communication use them to the best of your ability. Just hope that others do not react with envy or attack your character when you do.

So you need to "tell people" what your motive is for others to see it? No...depending on the type of person you are motives can easily be deduced and when you add the quality of having a large ego then you can't help your motive being easily seen.

I don't know his motive by hearing it from his lips but by gum I can see it clear as day...as I say it is not a bad thing really he wants to be number one apostate or make a living..it drives him on...I'm not overly judging him....just citing my opinion based on what I see from him and my own personal dealings with him (I've had a few).

And I debate his strengths in communication...he has put together some cracking videos for sure but equally some really bad ones that put off those "on the fence".

As I say I like some of his content but not the man himself in what I see and my personal dealings with him and the dealings I know he has had with others...it smacks of narcissism.

But don't judge me that I'm still judging others like JW's do...because that is utter shit...I just have opinions about the man based on personal dealings. His content, the most important thing, is relatively good.

Just because I think a person is a prick doesn't mean I envy them..it just means...I think they are a prick

His motive is to be the number one "apostate" in the world and make a living off it.

He will continue to make books to do so...I'm sure he wants to help people see the WT for what it is too naturally but the man has an ego...it is there plain to see for all.

I simply enjoy some of his videos, I skip the ones I don't like and I have no need to give him my money or buy his books.

... but a pretty young vlogger posts two YouTube vids and whamo...he has her on his channel.

I picked up on that too....as I said Cedars is easily read.

But you know if he wants to make a career out of being an activist and it helps people so be it...good luck to him...but I'm not a fan of the man...just some of his work....that is ok though.

the guardian (uk), monday, march 26, 2018. mps are demanding government action after more than 100 people contacted the guardian with allegations of child sexual abuse and other mistreatment in jehovah’s witness communities in the uk.. “i am extremely concerned, but not surprised, by the allegations of child abuse within the jehovah’s witness movement.

whenever there is a closed society with an inherent power imbalance, the potential for abuse is there,” said the labour mp sarah champion.. she said she would be raising the issue in parliament and demanding that the government take actionto make sure all children were safe.. alex chalk, the conservative mp for cheltenham, said he planned to raise the issue in parliament, saying it was not just an historical issue but an ongoing child safety concern.. “my instinctive thoughts are that the sheer numbers and seriousness of the allegations coming forward is concerning ... if even half the allegations coming to light are true then it’s clear that an entrenched culture of cover-up and flawed in-house investigations continues to this day,” chalk said.. champion said she was concerned that victims had to report their abuse to elders, without independent scrutiny.. she also expressed concern that abuse claims can only be taken before a committee for investigation if there were two witnesses to it.

Sometimes reference is made to certain quotes and readers then think 'how can a quote be a rumor?' A quote can be taken out of context. Critical reports often only give part of a matter and leave out other aspects. Often such rumors play on the emotions.
