for the majority of humans, certain events are surrounded by tradition and ritual.
marriage, the birth of children, entrance into adulthood, and death are all life-events which will be marked by most with a form of religious ceremony.
for the few who have left off affiliation with a religious organization, these events are marked differently - more by tradition than by mystic ritual.

"only on a rare occasion have i seen a society form returned with a red-line though a recommendation, indicating they reject the appointment.
this was in a case where the brother was under 25 years old, or some other minor defect.
never was there any rationale mentioned by the society at the their reasons based on spiritual qualifications lacking.
During my younger years growing up, it was "understood" that to be appointed as an elder, you were probably in your 40's. I was like age 6-13 or so.
13-19 it seems like there started to be one or two exceptions that got appointed at 30. These were the super witnesses, elder sons that shit Watchtowers.
When I left until now, it seems like they are appointing elders like they hand out medals at the Special Olympics. Which translated means there are elders that are 23-25 out there now. Lots of life experience for them to use while they sit and judge all the sinning R & F.

orst memories of being a jw .
pretty high for me: .
knocking school friends and teachers doors.
Welcome to the board Natred.
ahhhh, the old randomly high light the Watchtower trick.
You know the real trick to making it look authentic? You only had to high light the second sentence in the paragraph which gives you a 85% chance of highlighting the correct answer. If it was a "a" and "b" question, then highlight the 3rd sentence up from the bottom of the paragraph.

I think that being laid out on a pyre then set adrift lit on fire would be one of the coolest ways to be sent to the next part of my journey.
I wonder where I could get a permit to have that done?

i was just kinda curious about something.... i've seen a few chatrooms hosted by jw's inviting interested persons to ask questions (as long as they are not too probing or you detect a distinct rise in blood pressure but thats another subject) and i just wondered if these hammer-wielding witnesses count their time and put it in their monthly report.. maybe they keep a record of curious guests and count each time they pop in for a chat as a return visit.. in these modern times is there a section on the report sheet for internet interest or cyberspace studies?.
could a e-mailing of an article count as a placement?.
oh when i think of those hours i spent pioneering in the cold and wet knocking on doors with housewives crouching behind the sofa with their hands over kids mouths.... can you imagine futuristic talks on the platform in the ministry school with instructions on effective arguments to use on pc-holders with a couple of zealous elderly sisters huddled over lap top computers with techno-terror on their faces?.
Now that you mention it, I had forgotten how much I dreaded filling out that stupid report.
By the end, I put the exact same thing on my report each month: 2 hours, 2 magazines. I remember seeing my yearly report and laughing because I had done this for an entire year straight.
Funny, noone ever questioned me about it though.

hello again...now that i am officially a horrible, unrepentant sinner (in the eyes of a polyester slack wearing, mini van driving, anal retentive man whore), i have a question (actually several, but i will start with one!
) brace yourselves: it is about 1975!.
where in the wt was the "prophecy" made?
After thinking and reading the above, let me revise my opinion a little bit.
I think that therapy could help in the short term to relieve the immediate symptoms of loss. The denial, anger, bargining, hopelessness and then finally acceptance.
Noone but another ex-JW will really ever understand what you are going through so stay here at the board and post, vent, talk whatever you need to do. We will listen. No "worldly" person has had the years of indoctrination, brainwashing and "education" so they don't even have the slightest idea where to begin.

in one of the threads i read today, they were talking about looking into your eyeballs to diagnose cancer and the like.
also selling herbs.. my comment and question is this: it seemed like in my congregation and the surrounding ones, alot of the sisters were into kineseology, reflexology, herbs, vitamins, color therapy, aroma therapy, etc.. alot of touchy feely hippie crap.
while i personally agree that there needs to be more synergy with eastern and western medicines, it would appear reading the boards that alot of witnesses are into this sort of stuff.. is this your experience?
Oh Venice, my mother does that Reflexology and muscle testing stuff too.
I always try to trick her on how many vitamins I need to take in a given day.

some times the watchtower magazine really comes up with some really hilarious articles.
when describing competing crackpot cults they often in a very accurate way describe themselves.
just look at this little gem about the moonies: .
Mirror, mirror on the wall...
Who's the most brainwashing cult of all?

things have certainly been eventful since i sent my da letter.
it hasn't been announced at the meeting yet, but plenty seem to know!!!!!
monday a pioneer sister called me.
Congradulations!!!!!
I'm very happy for you. I chose the "drifting away" path too, but I am totally jealous that I didn't write my letter. The more I read here, the more I'm tempted to do it!!
