I'm glad you mentioned that Spiral, you're picking up on something I also pick up on but can't describe exactly, the kind of tone or almost "feeling" you get from their videos, like you said the pacing comes across as juvenile, and I think the voices do too at times, some of them speak in a kind of patronizing tone of voice. The videos they make for adults often come across as awfully childish, like they make them for school kids.

I don't get it either man, I mean, the Governing Body always claims to be so humble and discreet and then they live like that, I know Warwick ain't a palace but I mean, it looks like a pretty nice place to live. Maybe Jehovah's Witnesses just believe them and leave it at that, and just go on pretending or believing Armageddon will come tomorrow. What do you think?

"Faithful and discrete slave organization"? Jesus, that's so creepy, an organization of slaves? I mean how else do you read that, I don't think the author meant it that way but it sure... unsettles me, even if it's pretty accurate.

i can think of a few but one i went out and bought the bound vol for was the 1984 the generation that will not pass away.

Yeah that one freaks me out too Beth sarim, I don't want to jump to conclusions but its creepy to say even if what we tell you doesn't make sense do it anyway, I mean why would you even say that? What kind of 'life-saving direction' did the author have in mind?

You're right Spiral, and whether it's because the Governing Body 'makes' them poor by telling them not to go to college so they don't get good jobs or they join up because they didn't go to college so they feel welcome, they're not rolling in the dough. Certainly cant afford to live in a huge new compound next to a lake in a national forest...

I didn't see the video, what's it show? In general, yeah, I don't know how they don't see it either, they devote their life to "Jehovah" (the Governing Body) and then "he" throws them out in middle-age or even old-age with nothing to show for their decades of "sacred service." It's shameful. Maybe some of them do but they can't say it, and they'd never let people who do on JW Broadcasting.

24:12. i read the daily text today, thoughts on a scripture that does seem to be somewhat fulfilled with the increase in atheism and alternative religions?

it had definitely been going on back then but is it a general assumption?.

Jidders, the verse doesn't predict anything that wasn't happening back then already. People don't typically show each other a lot of respect or love, I mean just get on a bus or the subway, see if anybody talks to you, smiles at you, I mean it happens it just doesn't happen much. Things probably weren't that different back in 1st century Palestine. If Jesus or God or whatever Christian prophet said that meant "21st century Jehovah's Witnesses will hear about and see more atheists" why didn't he/they just say that? Don't read into it, don't make assumptions about what it means or doesn't mean, just read it in and of itself, and then read it in the context of the verses around it.

And as an atheist I gotta tell you: my heart ain't cold, I love me, I love the earth, I love my partner, I love my family, so on and so forth. And I don't do it 'cause God tells me to, I do it because I want to.

last saturday morning, i answered a knock at my door to see a man standing next to a young boy who handed me a pamphlet posing the question, "how do you view the bible?

would you say it is (1) a book of human wisdom?

(2) a book of myths and legends?

we've never seen a country or a territory with 175,000 witnesses of jehovah go under ban.

Commissioned 10 years ago? I glanced through the thing and it doesn't look like it took even half that time. I mean what do I know, I don't run a publishing company. But to me that just comes across like they're tooting their own horn. Did one of them actually say that, The Fall Guy?

Something I always found strange about JW baptisms is how everybody rushes out the door for lunch or a cup of coffee like they couldnt care less about the people getting baptized to save their soul from Jehovah's fiery wrath. Other Christian faiths tend to make a big deal out of baptisms, they perform them in front of a crowd of onlookers, maybe even hold a special service or mass just for the occasion. Yet JWs shove them off to the side at any convention I've been at and pretty much your family and maybe a few others look on at a distance. Just another way they devalue and depreciate the individual.
