That's true, and I appreciate that reminder. Around 2/3rds of young Witnesses leave by young adulthood. I just know that early experiences shape you, that's something I'm still trying to come to terms with years later, and I wish they wouldn't (most likely) have to work through that baggage. It's depressing.

The future of young Witnesses
by john.prestor inthere's a convention being held near my hometown, and as i was passing by i saw a father taking his young children for a walk outside.
and i wondered what would happen to those children, what they would experience at school and in their adult life.
i wondered if they would grow up repressed and anxious and fearful and full of guilt like i did, although i was not raised a witness.

There's a convention being held near my hometown, and as I was passing by I saw a father taking his young children for a walk outside. They couldn't have been more than five or six. And I wondered what would happen to those children, what they would experience at school and in their adult life. I wondered if they would grow up repressed and anxious and fearful and full of guilt like I did, although I was not raised a Witness. I wondered if they would leave or stay, and what they would have to look back on at the end of their lives.
I thought about saying something, but I wouldn't know what to say, and I didn't feel it was appropriate. I just hope things turned out all right for them.

Newspaper reports: Dutch government will initiate inquiry into child abuse within JW community
by Anders Andersen intoday a dutch newspaper published an in-depth follow-up item on jw abuse issues.. the most interesting part of the article is this:.
the politicians also let themselves be heard.
a month ago the house of representatives voted unanimously in favor of a motion to enforce an independent inquiry into abuse within the jehovah's witnesses, as the organization refuses to initiate it.

I get that this guy pisses everybody off, but I would really encourage other posters to stop responding to him. He's a sophist of the worst kind. The investigation will go on and should go on no matter what 'Doubter' has to say.

I don't honestly think we should bother with this guy, he has no counter-evidence of his own to discredit the investigation, just an obvious desire to exculpate Jehovah's Witnesses. I'm bowing out.

What does that have to do with anything? Your 'arguments are nothing more than unfounded hypothetical and empty speculations.

You're a child abuse apologist, Doubter, and we don't look kindly upon you.

New boy, you and your son are going to be okay in the long-run. You'll talk to him, you'll apologize, you'll hear him out, and you guys will move past this.

I would strongly encourage you to apologize to your son, to the degree that you feel comfortable. By acknowledging his anger you'll help him move past that. If you don't acknowledge his anger, he's going to stay angry most likely, and that will impede your ability to have a relationship with him. You did play a part in raising him, and it's clear that you feel regret and some responsibility. Just tell him that.
